The death of Kamina was needed for the story to become stronger. Kamina is in the mentor role of the story, even though we loved the characdter the mentor has to die in order for the student to grow. If Kamina didn't die in the series Simon would have never been able to become the person he ended up becoming. The only way he could truly be the man he became was to lose Kamina as a crutch.

Hands down.. this is the best anime ever!

It isnt like the other mainstream anime. Although Bleach and Naruto do have their moments. Gurren Lagann with a few other animes have a moment throughout every episode!. If you liked this anime.. i recommend watching: AngelBeats! Another great anime with a similar concept.. but the concept is more about the after life. A few episodes.. 13 to be exact, but the best 13 episodes ever. Gurren Lagann and AngelBeats! will forever be in my heart!
