i was at a shop on the oregon coast this week and this was on the wall! i think there were two more in the shop and i didnt want to leave! your work is so amazing!
..my son is 5 years old and he loves to watch your moving works of art.....he can browse all your vidoes all day...............he loves spinning objects...i have some videos of him when he was three, spinning a ring rope on his index finger (on youtube).....
spinning a foot ruler on the tip of a pencil.....just wondering..how much are those?...
@ullang I think there is something wrong with your son , You might want to get him checked out , It is not natural a small child is mesmerized by video's of moving objects , its even more concerning that you mentioned at the age of 3 he was spinning a ring of rope . Or it could be you are just boring and he is entertaining himself .
a car weighs 1.5 tons and that thing probably weighs just a few grams... also the spring only has to push with a force just slightly higher than the friction in the system. so it doesn't really have to do any work... no speed changes, bumps, no pushing, no direction changes, no work at all... just the friction.
I was slowly scrolling down ... just waiting for someone to say it.... I laughed.... good times..
imagine a city full of windup cars.. shit if someone released them back in the 50s everyone would be driving them.. old people with their 50mph freeways...
Well - some brain cells regenerated enough for me to remember that it was "Morey pattern" .... but then I posted my response on another of your (wonderful) pieces site!
Thanks for your reply - isn't there a term for the optical effect of that piece? Similar to if you put two pieces of screen mesh together and moved them... (I hate losing brain cells!) Anyway - ALL of your pieces are incredible and I appreciate your sharing them! What fun!

why about 24, and not 25? :o
william11121 2 years ago 3
because if you turn it 25 times, it opens a portal to another dimension.

quick question.....if it only takes someone to wind it up 24 times and it lasts for three hours... why dont they use this to power motors?
or am i missing something here?
4r4biq 2 years ago 12
The sculpture runs for 3 hours because it uses very little energy. The spring doesn't store a huge amount of energy.

Wonderful piece! Is the clicking sound the sound of an escapement mechanism? (I couldn't hear it on the video)
artsaveslives77 3 years ago 2
Yes, the clicking sound is the wood escapement pawls striking small brass pins. It is not very loud and hard to pick out on the video.
