  • I work with a child with autism and I can totally relate to her laughing. I would venture to guess that it is a pretty great excellent way to deal with frustration. The only other options would be to give up or get angry.

It really does start to feel like "Who's on first?" at times.

  • He's so cute..your a good mom..I work with autistic kids everyday

  • :) it can be so hard and so frustrating for everyone concerned especially when they regress on learning ability but i just love the laughs between you here brings back special memories of my own sons childhood with autism.

  • Not only is he verbally echolalic, he is also echolalic with your laughter and gestures.

  • Lol you guys sent me into a fit of laughter when you both were laughing. XD Hahaha

  • So adorable! Laughing and making the teaching into a game type setting helps both student and mom learn and flourish w/out anger... instead w/ joy! :) And congratulations Gavin, you did get the word Radio! And tons of people love that by the way ;)... my dad always puts it on while working in the garage or outside! Love to you both!

  • This made me cry so much. My daughter is exactly this way. All she ever does is repeat everything over and over. I love her so much but I get so frustrated. I can never have an actual conversation with her. She's five years old and so beautiful and sweet. Does this get better? I feel so lost.

  • oh that is so my son....problem is he had forgotten what the word "word"meant and kept saying letters....made me laugh too lol, everytime it ends up like that with my son: what is the freaking woooord"hahahah

  • you are doing awesome both of you.

It's so god dang frustrating when I say to my son what do u want to eat and I say what do you want and he just says what do you want.

  • I bet I did the same thing to my mom. What is echolalia?

  • Really excellent example of echolalia and autism.

We know what it's like. :) Good work Mama AND Gavin!

  • All bless you for your patience! I could never do what you do!

  • Nice patience!

    keep up the work

  • is he using sign language too?

  • hey thats my name

  • Well now he just thinks it's funny. Which it is :-)

  • Is Autism and Schizophrenia overlapped with each other ? Echolalia is one common factor between ASD and Schizo. Also due to lack of social interaction and cognitive impairment there is a possiblity that schizo is induced. Any comments ?

  • @yogiprasanna ASD and Schizophrenia can be co-morbid, but not likely because of the symptoms, but because of the neural centers involved in emotion and logic etc. Adult autism can be misdiagnosed (and therefore mistreated) as schizophrenia. I suggest reading some articles from Autism (medical journal)

  • @yogiprasanna They used to diagnosis kids on the spectrum with "childhood schizophrenia", so the answer is YES. Autism is present since birth however, so if symptoms are new in an adult it's not going to be autism... but adults with autism can have a "stress induced" psychosis.

  • Excellent.

  • you are a very beautiful mom.. im going through this now.. bless you and yours.. this is so cute!!!

  • @missfire13 --shes hot, aint she?

  • i host a radio show and im thinkin this video would make for a great intro!

  • I work with autistic children providing ABA therapy and I love to see you still smiling while working with your son. I absolutely LOVE my job and find joy going to work and I know that it can be exhausting and frustrating but all it takes is patience, and you definitely have that. I just want to let you know the amount of respect I have for parents of autistic children more now after working with them. More power to you and I wish you well...

  • He is so beautiful and I just want to say you have such awesome patience - keep it up your doing great!!!! :)
