People who can't handle college without this drug, can't handle real life issues in work and family. I have ADHD(the worst kind) and never took this drug. I finished college with no problem with grades. Even my doctor said that behavioral therapy is much better and he didn't like the long term effects of the drug. Adderall really have a nasty side that will damage your brain. Even marijuana is safer than this(I'm not advocating it but it is your life not mine).

Do 50mg(arbitrary value) extended release and 50mg immediate release are equally harmful (either amphetamine or methylphenidate)? With immediate release we will fell more concentrated but for a short time and with time-release we feel comparatively less concentrated but for long time,right or wrong? I mean the (concentration*time) factor remains constant for a particular quantity of drug whether time-release or immediate release?

My 22 yr old son dies from Ritalin. He was prescribed and made straight As but in 2008 he started abusing this highly addictive drug. Read the new FDA warning before you mess with amphetamines. Sean asked me why God gave him this curse and why did I ever give him this drug. I told him the experts told us it would help him. I try to honor my son by putting this information out. The NIDA has done a study and now the drug Ritalin is shown to damage the frontal lobe of your brain.

Ritalin is speed or another amphetamine. The Albuquerque Journal did a write up on his life and death in their Sunday paper. Research Nora Volkow and learn about her brain imaging at the National Institute of Drug Abuse in New York.

@pwg0070 Anything that causes an increase in dopamine levels has an abusive potential, but very few drugs that are much stronger than Ritalin cause measurable physical damage in the brain. Since so few drugs do, unless someone takes HUGE doses of Ritalin (which would cause liver damage first) I can't imagine how could it cause measurable brain damage. The 'Albuquerque Journal' is not a scientific paper and I'm sure no reputable source would support such claims for reasons like above.

Google the study by Dr Yong Kim on Ritalin and how it may be worse than Cocaine. Dr. Kim works for the NIDA (National Institute of Drug Abuse in New York). @pwg0070 You keep listing sources but you don't say what the source indicate to cause greater risk to otherwise healthy individuals than the FDA mentions. Dr. Kim compares Ritalin to the most famously addictive drug, cocaine, to see overlaps. This means that Ritalin is addictive like hypothesized (it's a control). Whichever other differences resulting in dendritic formation are found with Ritalin only mean that Ritalin is a different drug, now they need to show what those differences mean.

Nora Volkow of the NIDA shows the addiction is a brain disease or damage not a choice. We need to stop using addictive drugs on 10 percent of our children. Only the US does this why? Reefer Madness.anyone? Well in my experience I'm ADHD but I'm also Bipolar. Whenever my doctor prescribes me Adderall she also prescribes sleep-inucing medications. If u are or u think u are Bipolar follow yr doctor's advice. Adderall can trigger a manic episode & it will eventually result in either psychosis, a collapse of depression or anxiety attacks. If u r going to take it anyway, prepare a basket w/ snacks (granola is A+ and H2O + sleep aid) & take it in the morning.
