you need to get your arms and your delts into proportion because your delts are comparatively smaller than the arms which makes your arms look a little wierd.

Who cares if hes weak for his size man? Seriously..About 10% of all lifters only lift in order to be able to shift more and more weight, usually in a profession like Powerlifting, and the other 90% do it for aesthetics, if your big and look good, whats the problem?
@DphTim when you hit failure on the contraction, that does not mean your muscles are done. you have 20 to 30% more strength in the eccentric (negavtive) part of the movement. In this case, the lowering of the curl is the eccentric part of a contraction. By getting the weight up with a cheat curl, you can work on lowering it with control till you cannot ever control the weight on the negative. Whey you cannot even control the eccentric part of a muscle contraction, then that is true failure

@HenGlinz 556 raw deadlift, 534 raw squat, usapl texas state record, 402 bench, another usapl texas state record, 225 lbs for 26 reps bench press (NFL combine test). All this around 190 to 194 lbs. So I get those are weak lifts for my size too? Also, I am a natural/raw lifter. But then again, you must be much stonger since you are calling me out.

@HenGlinz simple. I am not one of those arm guys in the gym that does bicep curls every workout like you maybe doing. I like to train like an athlete and train my legs 2 to 3 times a week. Also, considering I do powerlifting meets, they test the bench press, the squat and the deadlift, henceforth why my bench is so high. Hope that answers your question. Also, you should lay off training your biceps so much or you will end up like those guys who have bigger arms then legs.

@ensampojken yes, it is proven the majority can achieve more reps on a given weight on a straight barbell. everyone is different though. it is best you try rotate between the 2.
try drop curls in general for short period of time, or go light. and get wrist straps which should help slightly.
if you can't handle the weight without having to swing your body then it's too much weight for you and you're just wasting your workout time. lower your weight to something you can handle
@customphoenixwings You will give more effort with cheat curls and ofc your biceps will respond better. Its ok to do a few sets at the end of ur workout.
in my opinion you should do 100 because it looked as if you were swinging your body which is horrible.. dont swing and keep them to your side with a straight back... the right way the more results

@buzzkilling Bicep curls allow the same amount of overload with less weight. The difference is the fact that your back muscles is lifting a little bit more for you, so you look more impressive when you lift.

The existence of *uninformed* novice lifters does not make this video illegitimate, otherwise it would make videos of the Snatch, The Clean and Jerk, or even the Back Squat and Deadlift illegitimate. Your exercise statement is immature.

This exercise is nothing but a movement to get you to an advanced overload technique---- a negative..
Also in regards to there bieng no exercise rule stating you cant form a compound movement out of something like this, you are correct there is not but when you look at where you are applying pressure there is no reason to do so. Squats and deadlifts follow the bodys natural curvature without creating an extreme enviroment outside of load.
Doing a bicep curl and trying to call it a compound by adding swinging and utter retardation does nothing but create a extreme lumbosis with load. Good luck with your future bad posture and injury goals. obviously this isn't something your generic quazi-personal trainers would have you think...

Great cheats! You're right at the optimum point there. Solid and true on the first few reps and building more cheat into the final reps to maintain 100% output and load capacity. Nothing beats cheater curls.
I did not hear the audio, so pardon me if you mentioned this, but I advise making sure one keeps a symmetric posture. Legs at shoulder width or less and NOT staggered front to back. It causes high compression regions. A symmetric lateral distribution of force will help prevent back injury.

Hey they wern't to bad to be honest, you look around 190/200lb anyway, so curling a weight that heavy is going to naturally make you arch your back an shoulders more. If you done some of the reps a little slower you would build major muscle quickly.
Ok I have a question. Maybe roughneckasian can help me out with this. This dude at the gym does these crazy swinging cheat curls. He has an okay build and in fear of not knowing what a proper cheat curl was, I didn't ask him why he swings so much. He bends down with the barbell resting on his knees (standing postition), does a very slight swing with his knees, barbell goes down, then instantanously does a full swing with his whole body and achieves the curl. Is this a powerlifting technique?
@codyj702 A cheat curl to me is using some momentum to get the weight up, but you have to have full control on the neg. Once you cannot control the neg. any longer, then you should stop just like I did on my last rep. Also, you only use cheat curls if you can not get a spot from anyone. I perfer forced reps any day over cheat curls. I really hate having to use them. Hope this helps and remember, only use cheat curls as long as you can control the neg.
@codyj702 The dude in the video is doing cheat curls PROPERLY. Most DON'T, and it's easy to swing the weight too much = useless. The right way is to swing the weight just enough to get it moving while still allowing the muscles to work, not to swing it wildly which doesn't work anything. This guy has good arms; Schwarzenegger always said it was cheat curls that were most responsible for size.
I like most this guy's vids, but I never saw the use of a 'cheat curl' seems to me like I use too much forearm and not enough bicep in using form like that.

You have got a superb genetic, and on top of that know how to work out properly and eat good stuff in the right time!!! That's the most important thing...people think that steroids is the key to get big, but the most important thing is to eat properly, sleep, work out and take suplements.....
In my experience (as a natural builder with good genetics) those who are quickest to accuse one of using steroids or other drugs are the ones who are least familiar with building or weight lifting at all. It's a cop-out. In effect, it's a way of saying I'm not big, I don't have the discipline to pursue it, and so there's no way you got there by working hard you must have cheated. Insecurity manifested as accusation.
Hello I wonder if this kind of training provides better results in strength than the "proper one", the one without any kind of movement towards, backwards or so. I have noticed that a lot of big and strong guys use cheat technique quite often. I am not interested in getting big one bit so my only goal to get stronger and currently I am trying to do the best form I can in this exercise. Should I use cheating too in order to get stronger?
Hey man, for your stature and size, 135 x 10 cheat curls isn't half bad! They have to be 16 1/2 when flexed, how tall are you and how old? I'm 18, stand 6'2 and weigh 245 pounds, with 18 5/8" arms when flexed, and I can curl 135 x 7 with strict form, I'm not even joking or trying to make you feel bad. Also, How many reps can you cheat curl 135 now man?

this 'cheating' doesnt mean he isnt training his arms..actually he is training his arms more heavily. Muscles dont scape physics laws..deppending on the angle in which you are making an effort, the same muscle will perform different strenght. When doing this, you 'help' your arm at the first partof motion in which ur muscle cant perform at full potential, meaning at the other degrees, you will be putting more stress on the muscle coz u r lifting more weight.

Dude, Tuan knows what he's doing "lol". Besides, he's got one STRONGASS back. Check his squats, deadlifts etc. without belt. Lotta power in a "lighter than 200lbs" package! Cheat exersizes don't have to cause injury if you have the experience, if you know what you're doing and why. Incidental cheating exercises can help shock the body, which sometimes is needed to get further.

But I am happy with my arm development, so in the end, it works for me. Im sure you have your way, but ask yourself, r u happy with how your developement because in the end, there r many different exercises to train the arm. Ask yourself, r u picking the training method that works best for u?

Is there any major difference between doing biceps curls with a barbell, like Tuan here, or using an EZ-bar?
I'm mostly using EZ-bars due to the fact that when using barbells I feel uncomfort in my wrists. Any thoughts on this, both things? :p

While strict curls load the biceps similarly, cheat curls overloads the biceps on the concentric portion of the lift, something strict curls cannot. Also, the increased involvement of other muscles (legs, back, trunk, etc.) stimulates a greater hormonal response that may add to greater hypertrophic or strength response. It's not as simple as the generic, quazi-personal trainers would have you think.

@TheTwilik If you read with logic, then you'd realize that I made an obvious typo and had meant "eccentric." There's no exercise rule stating that a barbell biceps curl must remain isolative and can't form an advanced compound movement. The existence of *uninformed* novice lifters does not make this video illegitimate, otherwise it would make videos of the Snatch, The Clean and Jerk, or even the Back Squat and Deadlift illegitimate. Your exercise statement is immature.

This exercise is nothing but a movement to get you to an advanced overload technique---- a negative..
Also in regards to there bieng no exercise rule stating you cant form a compound movement out of something like this, you are correct there is not but when you look at where you are applying pressure there is no reason to do so. Squats and deadlifts follow the bodys natural curvature without creating an extreme enviroment outside of load.

Great cheats! You're right at the optimum point there. Solid and true on the first few reps and building more cheat into the final reps to maintain 100% output and load capacity. Nothing beats cheater curls.
I did not hear the audio, so pardon me if you mentioned this, but I advise making sure one keeps a symmetric posture. Legs at shoulder width or less and NOT staggered front to back. It causes high compression regions. A symmetric lateral distribution of force will help prevent back injury.

Hey they wern't to bad to be honest, you look around 190/200lb anyway, so curling a weight that heavy is going to naturally make you arch your back an shoulders more. If you done some of the reps a little slower you would build major muscle quickly.

Ok I have a question. Maybe roughneckasian can help me out with this. This dude at the gym does these crazy swinging cheat curls. He has an okay build and in fear of not knowing what a proper cheat curl was, I didn't ask him why he swings so much. He bends down with the barbell resting on his knees (standing postition), does a very slight swing with his knees, barbell goes down, then instantanously does a full swing with his whole body and achieves the curl. Is this a powerlifting technique?

@codyj702 A cheat curl to me is using some momentum to get the weight up, but you have to have full control on the neg. Once you cannot control the neg. any longer, then you should stop just like I did on my last rep. Also, you only use cheat curls if you can not get a spot from anyone. I perfer forced reps any day over cheat curls. I really hate having to use them. Hope this helps and remember, only use cheat curls as long as you can control the neg.

The right way is to swing the weight just enough to get it moving while still allowing the muscles to work, not to swing it wildly which doesn't work anything. This guy has good arms; Schwarzenegger always said it was cheat curls that were most responsible for size.

In my experience (as a natural builder with good genetics) those who are quickest to accuse one of using steroids or other drugs are the ones who are least familiar with building or weight lifting at all. It's a cop-out. In effect, it's a way of saying I'm not big, I don't have the discipline to pursue it, and so there's no way you got there by working hard you must have cheated. Insecurity manifested as accusation.

Hello I wonder if this kind of training provides better results in strength than the "proper one", the one without any kind of movement towards, backwards or so. I have noticed that a lot of big and strong guys use cheat technique quite often. I am not interested in getting big one bit so my only goal to get stronger and currently I am trying to do the best form I can in this exercise. Should I use cheating too in order to get stronger?
I can do 110*6 clean+2-3 cheated.

Hey man, for your stature and size, 135 x 10 cheat curls isn't half bad! They have to be 16 1/2 when flexed, how tall are you and how old? I'm 18, stand 6'2 and weigh 245 pounds, with 18 5/8" arms when flexed, and I can curl 135 x 7 with strict form, I'm not even joking or trying to make you feel bad. this 'cheating' doesnt mean he isnt training his arms..actually he is training his arms more heavily. Muscles dont scape physics laws..deppending on the angle in which you are making an effort, the same muscle will perform different strenght. When doing this, you 'help' your arm at the first partof motion in which ur muscle cant perform at full potential, meaning at the other degrees, you will be putting more stress on the muscle coz u r lifting more weight.

Dude, Tuan knows what he's doing "lol". Besides, he's got one STRONGASS back. Check his squats, deadlifts etc. without belt. Lotta power in a "lighter than 200lbs" package! Cheat exersizes don't have to cause injury if you have the experience, if you know what you're doing and why. Incidental cheating exercises can help shock the body, which sometimes is needed to get further.

But I am happy with my arm development, so in the end, it works for me.
