I was on a cruise in Oct. and was called out of my stateroom by Security from the ship. Had an issue with a retailer in port not charging me in the correct currency. Was told it was ok to go fix it and they had the doors closed and were going to leave us but at the last minute opened the doors and let us on we weren't happy about the sitiuation and actually had a meeting with the upper staff members later that evening. Let's just say they took care of us because their security screwded up!!!
What probably happened is that a pilot boat went out to drop them off and pick up the port pilot, however I have a video which I should upload of a family being left in Mexico.
Early is on-time; on-time is late; late is a dice roll--it's as simple as that. The ship's company has no ill feeling for you when you are late, and you have no reason for ill feeling for their leaving without you.
Now When you Book a crusie for the first time. Here is a helpful tip Make Sure you book your airline, hotel and cruise together. Arrive the day before your cruise and stay in a hotel. When you go to different Ports make sure you book your activitys through the cruise line. Because if you miss the cruise they will fly you to your next destination. Now if its not with the cruise line "I'm sorry your on your own as far as getting their."
That's terrible. I wouldn't know what to do if I'd gotten stuck in a strange country. Luckily my hometown is an hour away by ferry from Nassau so I'd gotten one the next ferry available.
I was on the Norwegian Jewel in Dover, England where we were embarking on the cruise ship, I was sitting on the balcony and saw a woman screaming, jumping, having arrived at the terminal something like 2 minutes after the cruise started.
You feel really sorry for these people, but the cruise line does give you a time to be at the dock.
If 3,000 people can do it, everyone can, so there is no excuse.
I usually arrive at the port of embarkation a day prior, just in case.
Glad to see the boat didn't wait on them. They knew when to be back on the boat, why didn't they get back to the ship? The other cruise passengers need to be able to get on with their cruise instead of waiting on two assholes.
if you are on an excursion booked on the cruise, they will. a friend did a canopy tour (last one on trip) in Belize and the cruise sent an employee with the tour. employee had a walkie talkie in case the excursion was running late
I was on the Mariner of The Seas, going to Mexico, in 2010. My family and I had always eaten in the main dinning room. For the first three night's, we where the only family at our assigned table. Our fourth day though, are table mates finally show up, and they tell us that for the past 73 hours, have ridden a Grayhound from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas, because they where from Arizona, and wanted to meet with some family members in California before the cruise, but arrived in to port too late.
If everybody else can manage to be on at the specified time, and they have plenty of things clearly stating when they leave, then that's too bad for those two. Why would the cruise ship change its schedule to fit two people's needs.
Let them back on? What, are they just going to abruptly stop it and throw a rope out the door and hope they swing on without getting injured in which case they could sue?
I took my mum on a cruise and in Barbados she was not allowed to take her wheelchair on coach, when we returned some tosser had stolen her chair and cruise liner had to track her a new one down which made us late by 2 hours captain would not leave and held up 4 other cruise liners till we were safely on board....either we had an excellent captain or certain circumstances they will wait
As someone who has been delayed getting OFF the ship because people don't follow the simple instructions, I say ... leave em there. We waited for over a 2 hours while the ship had to locate 4 foreigners after landing in Florida. No one could get off until they had cleared customs. I was almost late for my flight home because of those 4 boneheads.
@Kalphiter45 Maybe a tug boat, I'm sure the ships life boats are certified for use, and if used, prolly have to go through a whole new re-certification or even get a new life boat.
I hate when people like this make me late for things having to wait on them because they can't get it together. I'm glad they got left I hope it cost them thousands
@arthurchen0114 What are you going to "sew"? Sailor hats for the crew....lol If you meant "sue" that is the problem with some people these days. How do you think these people are justified in bringing a lawsuit for their own bad judgement or misunderstanding? They screwed up and got left behind.
Vacation is supposed to relaxing--RIGHT? Why would you get on a cruise to have every single little thing mapped out for you... " be here by exactly ... or you will be left behind". "your having dinner at 7:00pm" They have computers that tell them every single passenger that de-boards and again at re-boarding. Why not do the math and find out you have 2 persons out----- "oh look, there they are 100 yards away... screw 'em lets go."
IF you were late due to having joined an onshore excursion / tour organized by the cruise line itself, then the ship would wait for you. We had had this experience once with Royal Caribbean and this is one reason why you may wish to consider joining tours organized by the cruise company = yes, they are generally more expensive but treat the premium as buying a late penalty insurance.
That was a dumb move on their part. Always stay on that boat, no matter what. I went on my 1st cruise in 07 on th Carnival Valor and we had people run up to the deck but they made it just in time.
@revilor234 All meals are included, unless you want to have dinner in a specialty restaurant. Price varies, but you can find a Caribbean cruise on Carnival starting at $399-$499 person depending on the time of year.
hubby and I went on a cruise ship not long ago (xmas 2010).... if you book a tour through the boat they CANNOT leave without you...... if you go it alone then make sure you are well and truly back before departure time or you WILL be left behind.....
why the heel would you even tryto be late when your traveling on a cruise ship like that. i mean helllooo!!?!?!!
you have already payed a hell of a lot of money for the cabins i think it would be rather stupid to go "shopping for suvenirs" and then end up beeing late for our ship.
What a dick move. If that was me that got left behind the cruise line would have to rename that ship the lancers7x of the seas by the time my lawyers got done with them.
@lancers7x It clearly says in the cruise rules/guidelines that you HAVE to be back to the ship on time, or else they WILL leave you. It was their own fault for being late. Too bad, so sad. Follow the rules next time.
@lancers7x Cruises are no different than airplanes, buses, trains, etc. If you're late, YOU. ARE. LATE. You're going to get left behind! It's not one's fault but your own!
@pocketcube Royal leaves people behind too. We were on a Mexican Riviera cruise and someone we knew (not friends) had intentionally stayed off the ship in one of the ports and took a bus to the next one. The ships can't stay forever.
One of the cruises we were on there was a group of three women and they were horribly rude to the staff and passengers. At the second port they were running to try and catch the ship but it did not stop. We as well as many other passengers were watching them trying to run and catch the ship. When people realized it was them and they missed the "boat" everyone started to clap and cheer! Honestly. They were that rude to EVERYONE! Some joked the Captain deliberately wouldnt stop. LOL
Of course it's their fault. There's always people that no matter how many times you tell them, give them the instructions, remind them and call them, they just don't seem to get it... and it happens what we just saw. The bad thing about it is that afterward they want to blame and sue everybody but themselves.
I just took a cruise recently and they re-iterated over and over how incredibly important it was to be back on the ship at least 30 minutes before the departure time. F-O-U-R O'C-L-O-C-K!!!!!! More than likely they are the type of people who are ALWAYS late for EVERYTHING!!!! They'll probably be late for their own funeral! I know I'd be pissed if we were sitting at a port after 4:00 waiting for some schmo's.
As you can hear the women's comment ''They were yelling for him on the inter com'' which obviously means the ship DID wait, and obviously they were VERY late, so their problem
WHy hold up a thousand people for two people who know the rules. I feel for them but we all know the rules when we cruise............or fly.........or take a train......or a bus.........
this is exactly why i start heading back to the ship 45 mins before departure time, lol. i've never even come close to missing my ships in past cruises and never intend to miss any.
In July '09 I was on a Carnival cruise where 2 men were left behind. They called their names for 15 minutes than the ship left. I have no clue how they got back home. You have to be back in time no matter what.
There are two kinds of people, those that wave "From" the ship and those that wave "AT" the ship. Those two are "At" people. I don't think they will ever make that mistake again. But then again...
No sympathy really from me, they are told the time to be back on board, they missed it. As to all the people say "why can't they wait for all passengers to get on", a very simple answer, the ship would never get away on time as people would take advantage. Trains, planes don't wait, they go. Cruise ships DO try to help out and do check if people are nearby before they leave. They are on schedule.
I forgot my ID when I left a cruise ship in a port and when I got back they were not going to let me back on. Luckly I got my wife to go back to our room to get it. The boat would have definatly left with out me.
I wonder how much time you get to leave the ship.
I've not done a cruise yet. But I remember a city bus tour I took this summer. The guide said we had 30 minutes to stretch our legs. I turned to the girlfriend and said "I'm not going anywhere". A family were were talking to before the tour started decided to step off to get some water. 15 minutes later the bus was pulling off and the family missed the bus.
i used to work on the CARNIVAL TRIUMPH and this happened a lot......duh!!!!!those stupid people know what time the ship goes............their own fault...lol...
I had to laugh at 1:55 “… are we stopping?” Can you imagine how much fuel it would take to stop and restart a large ship? And how much more fuel it would take once underway to get back on schedule? But then again, if it was the man (or woman) who owned the ship, they wouldn’t have taken off in the first place.
@TravelGuyTravel and it's just right that the ship don't wait for passengers.. they could never leave.. if they would wait one time for somebody.. soon everybody would be lait..
@EDGAR15ish Oh heck no.....it wasnt' the cruise ships fault they missed. The cruise ship lets you know when they are going to leave....it's your responsibility to make sure you get onboard.
So what happened to them??? Did they have to fly back or was a boat able to come get them??? My family are planning to go on go on our first cruise soon, on the Carnival Glory and I will definitly make sure everyone is there on time...
Lol this happend to me and my missus first time in Egypt. We found the Viking 3 Cruiser 2 mile down the Nile, from where we had got off. Luckily Enough they sort of pulled over for us, the guide was with us also. Thank god!
Glad I ran across this video. Im going on a cruise in the future and i will definitely make sure I be back 2 hours before the ship leaves. That will be a messed up situation to be in.
they will not stop. but what they would do is put you on a little boat, like one of those rescue boats, & drive the boat to the door, &get you back on the ship.
oooh my gooosh!! Terrible,i was like sad watching them, finnaly getting on that cruise they always dreamt of then miss the ship! I seriously would have jumped into the water have them pick me uP!
@goingtoseetheworld It's a little Sony Handycam. It was really hard to see anything through the viewfinder with the sun out, and being on a moving ship didn't help either.
@TravelGuyTravel im goin on a cruise ship soon, and im goin to make sure my peers are on time. lol. that is just horrible, i feel for these people. anyways i think im boardin the freedom of the seas, how was your cruise.

In July '09 I was on a Carnival cruise where 2 men were left behind. They called their names for 15 minutes than the ship left. I have no clue how they got back home. You have to be back in time no matter what.
MissBelinha 1 year ago
There are two kinds of people, those that wave "From" the ship and those that wave "AT" the ship. Those two are "At" people. I don't think they will ever make that mistake again. But then again...

they are STOOOOPID
raybin05 1 year ago
No sympathy really from me, they are told the time to be back on board, they missed it. As to all the people say "why can't they wait for all passengers to get on", a very simple answer, the ship would never get away on time as people would take advantage. Trains, planes don't wait, they go. Cruise ships DO try to help out and do check if people are nearby before they leave. They are on schedule.

thats why i stay on cruise ships.

I forgot my ID when I left a cruise ship in a port and when I got back they were not going to let me back on. Luckly I got my wife to go back to our room to get it. The boat would have definatly left with out me.
Heinzeag 1 year ago
@Heinzeag How did you forget your ID? You need your Cruise Card to exit the ship?
TravelGuyTravel 1 year ago 29
That blows
sp4rt0n 1 year ago
I wonder how much time you get to leave the ship.
I've not done a cruise yet. But I remember a city bus tour I took this summer. The guide said we had 30 minutes to stretch our legs. I turned to the girlfriend and said "I'm not going anywhere". A family were were talking to before the tour started decided to step off to get some water. 15 minutes later the bus was pulling off and the family missed the bus.

my dad did this but they stoped and got a speed boat to go out and put a rope ladder to climb up

Will they pull over?
oMeatball 1 year ago
This is why the cruiselines give you a certain time to be back onboard.....if u not there....too bad, so sad.

Remember how much of a nightmare it was when you arrive late for your airplane and it has gone. The same thing goes for the cruise ship.

@EDGAR15ish Why would they get their money back?
TravelGuyTravel 1 year ago 15
@TravelGuyTravel cause they paid for something they didnt even get to enjoy and didnt even got on the ship so yeah it was just a question though
EDGAR15ish 1 year ago
@EDGAR15ish This was the last port of call on this cruise. So they only missed one night.
TravelGuyTravel 1 year ago 2
@TravelGuyTravel haha so lets just say they left them on the island while yall were going home already. =))
EDGAR15ish 1 year ago
@TravelGuyTravel and it's just right that the ship don't wait for passengers.. they could never leave.. if they would wait one time for somebody.. soon everybody would be lait..

colaboy1 1 year ago
@TravelGuyTravel and it doesnt matters if they leave without you on the first day, you still got to pay
riz1993 1 year ago
@EDGAR15ish Oh heck no.....it wasnt' the cruise ships fault they missed. The cruise ship lets you know when they are going to leave....it's your responsibility to make sure you get onboard.
othrower74 1 year ago 2
@EDGAR15ish it's their own fault you are told to be back at a certain time

Don't feel sorry for her at all. It was more important for her to 'go shopping' than it was to board her ship. HER FAULT!
RBNightlinger 1 year ago 60
@RBNightlinger Agreed. Departure time is what time they depart. If they're too stupid to read, REGARDLESS OF THEIR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN, then too bad.

they will not stop. but what they would do is put you on a little boat, like one of those rescue boats, & drive the boat to the door, &get you back on the ship.

This would have been awful to watch, can you imagine being them???
And not to be an ass, but what kind of camera do you have??
goingtoseetheworld 1 year ago 2
@goingtoseetheworld It's a little Sony Handycam. It was really hard to see anything through the viewfinder with the sun out, and being on a moving ship didn't help either.

Arent they supposed to check if every passenger is on board? Cuz there are ids and you have to check in right?
ericlei12 1 year ago
@ericlei12 Yes, but they announced their names many times before leaving port. This ship is not going to wait forever for people who are late.
