  • hes a muppet, id burn him off the cotton, 1800 bricks a day?? biggest load of bullshit, i worked in australia where they render the brick work and guys are still onlt layin 1300 max on huge runs. 1800 is total bullshit

  • Union bricklayers are the MOST skilled

  • Never lay frog down; you don't get any key up to the next course.

  • theres only one way everybody and thats FROG UP

  • woolfish you ama big dreaming man you aint fooling nobody you should remove that commentfor your own sanity

  • 1500 a day I have a job for you at $200 per hour.

  • ladies ladies, its with the frog down, if da the frog is up, water can seep in and settle in the frog, blah blah blah, frost, expansion, cracking blah blah, self praise is no recommendation but i lay up to 1500 - 1800 bricks a day, day in, day out

  • doubt it pal

  • If your laying 1500-1800 bricks everyday you must lay them pretty shity

  • Hi, I just want to say that 98 per cent of bricklayers will lay frog down to achieve a thin joint( grind ), we know it is lazy but we still do it. I have met brickys who wont.

Frog up is the correct way and steve should agree.

  • Thats what i was tought at college...

  • Janet, if you wish to make a factual statement on the subject of whether a brick should be laid with the frog up or down please do so, stating that "he's the best bricklayer l've ever seen" & "He's been bricklaying since before you were born" adds NO credibility to the debate Whatsoever.

  • A brick should be laid with the frog (indent) facing up NOT down.

If it is laid facing down the weight of the brick & courses above is all on the edges. When the frog faces up it is filled with mortar & therefore the weight of the next course is spread over the full width.

  • One of the oldest brickie arguements. Frog down or frog up. In general I would agree that bricks should be laid frog up but the nature of the brick can have a lot to do with this. In a controlled test at college I bulit 2 peirs one frog up one frog down ensuring the frogs were full on both jobs. Afterwards both piers were tested for lateral strength and constant pressure neither came out any stronger or weaker. Try it yourself

  • Brickie's only lay bricks frogs down for ease & to save mortar, frog up is the correct way.

If the frog is filled the strength of the wall / piers would be the same, however as you mention it does depend on the nature of the brick! In the video the bricks being used have a deep frog so it's logical to assume that not all it will be filled when laying the bricks frog down, hence an empty joint, & as you say..."Empty joints make for weak brickwork".

  • water can sit on the face of a handmade brick and in heavy frost blow the face of the brick if laid upside down (frog down) Also if you can't get bricks down try a smaller trowel and less muck.... i can lay just as quick and with tight joints frog up

  • Good video even if it is a little short. It's good to see a Bricklayer take pride in his work. Keep up the good work with the instructional videos. I am a journeyman Bricklayer from the US.

  • He's not wrong. He is an EXCELLENT bricklayer. He's been bricklaying since before you were born and those walls are still perfect and strong - l should know cos they're in my house and garden...

    Janet

  • Errr its NOT wrong mate... he's the best bricklayer l've ever seen. He's been building walls since before you were born - and they're still up - still perfect - l should know cos they are in my house !!
