the earlier seasons had more of an edge to them - - and no laugh track, if i recall correctly. the show began as more of a drama and became more of a comedy. the change in theme music reflects this. the switch from drama to comedy was unfortunate because high school in late 60s / early 70s LA county wasn't all fun & games.
Looks like this was a really good t.v. show but this is the first time I've ever heard of it or seen anything about it. What, exactly was this show about? I'll have to see if I can find any episodes of it on DVD now.
It's interesting to hear the different music styles from the beginning to this. I loved this show, and of course had a monster Highschoolers crush on Karen Valentine and Denise Nicholas
This helped inspire me to become a teacher, so I could nurture young minds and help people start on worthwhile lives.
Then NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND and "helicopter parents" came around, and now it requires a miracle of Biblical proportions to be able to help students learn anything at all other than how to pencil the dots on the state-mandated multiple guess tests, and a teacher can be accused of impropriety for shaking the hand of a graduating senior in some places!
one of those "FEEL GOOD HAPPY" sitcoms ......Hated this show.....the "TOKEN black teacher" who is going to save the public schools and the world with racial harmony! and the white teachers being Politicially correct.
My favorite show w my favorite actress, Miss Karen Valentine! Hopefully SHOUT will find it in their heart to release the 3rd & subsequent seasons. It'll only happen if you buy them, soooo please do. Thanks for this clip!
I remember this show; but I don't remember this show. I can remember seeing this introduction, however I don't remember any episodes or what it was about; but I do remember the beautiful and talented Denise Nicholas. I love you. You were an awesome Actress in Baby I'm Back.
Interesting to see this opening. I loved this one. :) Nice that this episode included Jerry Fogel who played Jerry Buell on The Mothers-In-Law (for those of you who knew of that show).
@AlbieGray- I knew I had seen Jerry Fogel before but could not place where and now thanks to your post I remember he was the luck guy married to that beauty from The Mothers in law. Thank you.
@OjaiRoy I got the complete Mothers In Law series on DVD, and I got to liking that show. :) It's wonderful. Get it, sometime. I think you will love it.
@AlbieGray- thanks for the suggestion but I have the Bill Cosby Show series when he was a bachelor and the Mannix series on DVDs that I haven't even watched yet. I loved the humor in Mothers in laws.
@OjaiRoy The humor was really funny. I like how the two mothers would go at one another, and then both families would get swept up into it. I especially loved it when the Husbands got after the wives when their meddling got too much! That was to me the funniest.
@AlbieGray- I was born in 56 and when the series was on I told myself that when I get my driver's license I am going to find their neighborhood and spend a day with them to see their antics. Our young minds!
@OjaiRoy Yep. Even though I was in diapers when the show first came out, I can appreciate it more now with how fun it is. And finding their neighborhood wouldn't have been hard. You'd have been there when you hear everyone arguing. What fun! :D
This is the version of the opening that I remember the most (1972)....I also remeber that in the last season (1973-74) they all drove new Chevrolet cars (1974), and then it left the air.
I watched this show regularly, when it was on in the 70s. It seems as thought it was liked then, but suddenly dropped out of all media, soon after, never to be in re-runs or even talked about, with few exceptions. A fascinating portrayal of high school life and nice teachers. I grew up during the era, and high school was like this at least in LA.
I remember the show when I was a little kid in the 1970s but couldn't remember the name of the program but I did love intro especially the music. It took me a really long time to figure out that show until I was looking up other programs on You Tube till I found the "Room 22" Program and I was really happy that I have found it. I am also planning on purchasing the DVDs as well. I have really enjoyed the intro on the You Tube.
the negros in the school I went to sure looked different than those negros, the ones I went to school with would fight and rob you....some white kid got stabbed by a group of negros in the bathroom my senior year
I'm just wondering why the students are going up the fire escape. I thought fire escapes were only for going down. When fire is out or fire drill is over, don't you use the building's main entrances?
I was born in 1963, six days before JFK was killed.
I grew up with shows like this. When I look back I wonder what's happened to us.
It used to be cool to come together and try to change things, I remember. I was there.
I was a kid, but I remember the spirit, and I really wish we could be that way again.

Wow, the three of them just stand there and laugh at Karen Valentine, and no one offers to help her pick up the books?!!

Too bad the faculty was laughing at Karen V's dropping her books. At least a couple of the students were kind enough to help her. :)

I wish that young people today were like young people in the 60's and 70's no comparison.
