  • on my ipod forever YEHA thanks for posting this

  • I looked at a copy of "Not Too Long Ago" by the Uniques. A future country music superstar, Joe Stampley, was the lead singer for the Shreveport, LA-based band (Stampley and three of the members were from Springhill, LA, the drummer, whose name was Mike Love [I kid you not] was from Magnolia, AR). Another future country music superstar, Ray Stevens, was the record's producer.

  • @MrJayBBluejay My mistake. Ray Stevens did produce some records for Joe Stampley and the Uniques, but not this one. It was Dale Hawkins.

  • @MrJayBBluejay Sorry for the error. It was Dale Hawkins. However, I found out that Merle Kilgore, who was Hank Williams, Jr.'s manager until his death, also helped write the song with Joe Stampley.

  • yep...

  • 1965: the last good year, before the hippies and commies took over.

  • Old microphones just kill me. Is Mr. Stampley singing into a flashlight?

  • Another wonderfull post and such a gorgeous record, really really nice record, many thanks..

  • This song just popped in my head...when I was about 6 or so, this was my favorite song.

  • SENSACIONAL!!! CONGRATULATIONS FOR THIS POST!!!! VERY GOOD!!!!

  • Great song circa 1965. Been a fan of Joe's ever since.

  • What a priceless video!

  • You never hear this on oldies stations....wonder why. Sometimes they play songs called "Lost Oldies". To me they are only lost because they do not play them!

  • You'll hear "Not Too Long Ago" and a LOT more oldies you haven't heard in awhile or ever on my 24/7 Internet station, TUNEDEX MEMORIES at songsyoushouldhaveheard.,com. During December, you may hear Christmas tunes you've never heard before as well. Thanks for checking out the video... please check out the station as well. Happy Holidays!
