@ShotokanBleach Honestly, the techniques may not look exactly the same, but it is obvious upon close inspection that Shotokan's version of Wankan was indeed developed using Matsubayashi-Ryu's version of the Kata. Both versions involve the same basic movements and concepts with slight variations in technique.
The man second to the left is Minoru Toma the one behind him is his son. He ran the Koza branh of Matsubayashi ryu which recently closed due to Toma's bad health. I was suppose to go be in the demo team but couldn't due to not feeling well, but watched from audience. I wonder who taped this. It must have been 20 yrs ago. thanks!
wow this is so different from shotokan wankan that its a completely different kata
