  • Ok

  • NICE

  • Mother Of God....

  • Spinning vinyl

  • Thanks for the video ! Just bought an electric set and need all the help I can get ! I've been a guitarist for 30 years and a drummer for ...well, I can't even call myself one yet..haha Great lesson :)

  • thank you for the lessons =)

  • This reminds me of Garth in Wayne's World

  • can't wait to start practicing these. I'm 47 and practically starting all over again with my new kit. Thanks for the tutorial!

  • Do you need to accent the first hit on Bonham triplets?

  • FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKING HELL!!

  • Bottom line: He sounds good! What all drummers strive for.

  • why does this have over a million views? anyone playing drums more than a few years should be able to play ANY of this, the speed is good but triplets are simple, cmon.

  • @mikepvf29 stfu

  • @mikepvf29 paradiddles are simple too...

  • He's got the groove, but not very flashy. I would probably add some stick tricks, especially the throw-and-click.

  • Genius.

  • Nice bro! I have play drums since I was 8 at a local church with no teacher just watching other people play at big concerts! Till now I'm still learning.

  • @X4hunterx4 me 2 i play at church lol

  • Fuck me! That was just awesome!

  • Randy, i`ve been playing drums now for about two years (still struggling), im a huge bonham fan, I`ve been listening to a led zeppelin track called Bonzo`s Montreaux, any chance you could roughly break down what he is playing.

  • 4:30 - 4:40 fucking blew my mind, and casually he says after "anyway.."

  • Nice! what a great drum lesson

Too bad 92 people can't enjoy a good one

  • Dude, where have you been. Not many drummers can play at SPEAKING volume levels. That is REAL tallent.

  • Double bass FTW! XD

  • Great video. Started slowly, just like you said, and now I can go full speed.

  • ok im new to drumming and I have a few questions I need answered. what exactly is a triplet and a quad? a triplet is where you play 3 notes? so basically hitting 3 different times? and if so.. if I played a double on the bass with tom and floor tom would that make it a quad seeing I hit 4 times?

  • @iSMITH4life A Bonham triplet (this) would go:

    (----- - Right - Left) (----- - Right - Left)

    Bass-Snare-Snare Bass-Snare-Snare

and so on mixing it up between toms and such. Also feel free to correct me anyone as I am also a fairly new drummer.

  • @sArChEr001 thank you for your help. so whats the difference between a john bonham triplet and any other triplet?

  • @iSMITH4life To my knowledge, what defines it is the inclusion of the bass drum. And no problem, glad to help.

  • @sArChEr001 thanks man.

  • nice way to show off your skill

  • i always mess a little with the bass pedal when im gaining speed :(

  • Wow very nice thank you Sir.... :)

  • What drums do you use?

  • DUDe, you dont look like a drummer until you start playing, AWESOME AS FUCK!!!!!!!!!!

  • seen you play liek that only get my moral down to 0

  • Duude! you wanna be my drummer?? :D

  • Your amazing man Im watching all your videos!

  • HOW DID U BECOME SO GOOD!?

  • @DoubleBassNikko years and years of practice

  • bad ass

  • I am a left handed drummer and having a hard time with this , are your drums muffled? I am using a Gretch 6 piece catalina set and wonder if it is your tuning or is it the echoing of the drums that is different than mine. I am noticing that if I get off a slight bit on the timing I will throw the whole thing off and want to know how to recover without stopping I know it can be done but am not sure..hit 2 drums at the same time then resume? thanks you are good and I am trying Linda Quitere

  • Sorry, pal. You're not Bonham.

  • that was pretty awesome, do you have any tips on muffling drums, to get a rly refined sound?

  • you are a great drummer....many years of work

  • goddamn! i must learn!!!!

  • Can We do a triplet using 2 bass hits and 1 snare or tom hit ?

  • hey love the video!!!

come check my drum videos out peace!!!!

  • too wristy

  • Very very good!

  • Thank you for such a common sense and laid back instruction. I am moving along much faster than I ever thought possible!

  • Well played.

  • I can do it slowly, but once I go faster, my foot goes together with my first hit on the One:(

  • 1:42 - 2:00 Flight of the rat !

  • hey anybody want to check a kool video on the buzz roll??

come check my videos out peace!!!!!

  • "Slow it down, take your time.. build it up " probably the best advice ever given!

  • as us karters would say, "calm is smooth... and smooth is fast." Nice video... and killer triplets and quads! 5 stars...

  • what do you record your videos with??

  • @BittenMitten This video was a much older SD camera. I now shoot with a JVC GY-HM100. RVP

  • @vansdrumming

cool thanks for the reply man! great drumming too!

  • @vansdrumming its a fucking nigger

  • I have trained this and I've got good progress! Its really cool! The great secret is simply starting slow. To me it seems more like a mental exercice than a fisical coordination exercice only. And when you get this working good, its a super-cool sensation of power. Thanks.

  • sick dude, when i play my triplets always go out with sync, the bass is fine but i think its my hands, how do you fix this please

  • are you using a double pedal for quadruplets?

  • fuck off

  • I thought i was the only one to call them Bonham triplets. They're absolutely my favorite thing to play on drums, and if I'm trying to get technical on something, it usually just ends up going crazy with Bonham triplets. :)

  • i love how everytime you get completly carried away, then your like "Alrighty, thats that."

  • Hey, love the drum lessons, could you tell me what drum heads you're using?

  • omfg D:

  • @antoniohm81 my same reaction. with the same face. Also laughing at some points which is weird. lol

  • what rack are you using to mount it all on?

  • now that was insane. so insane i had to take my shirt off half way through the video

  • Boham Style !

  • Damn this is good, man! A really big thanks from me!

    - Rock on

  • so thats where a steam engine gets it sound from!!!O.O

  • Randy, How about a lesson on easing frustration. Most players that frequent here are experienced,But Im sure there are many like me who are not playing very long..Yes seeing you do this kinda stuff is great inspiration but can be very frustrating at times to master these things. You obviously have much experience behind the kit, what are your thoughts and experiences on combating frustration.

  • For the follow the leader bit, on what beat does the hi-hat come in ? and also how does that relate to a 4/4 beat, it seems that your doing 3 sets of 3 not 4 sets, bit new to drumming. if anyone could help me out that'd be great,

  • how long more or less to master it?

  • Great work! I would love to see a video insert with a camera on the bass pedal as well!

  • Liked the "follow the leader." I'm gunna be using that.

  • ese hombre es re capo

  • done on the bass drum get it right good times bad times

  • Interesting how the faster it gets the worse it sounds to my ear but I definitely like the sound when it is slower. I am not a death metal fan.

  • @Sandyhendry this is also not metal..

  • 5:01..........i go crazy

  • How do you move that fast?? When I drum fast I end up missing the drum XD

  • you done that before, huh?

  • 4:20 to 4:40.... damn thats good haha.

  • Can you try out the outro to Judas Priest's song "painkiller" ?

  • your off the freakin chain

  • One thing I noticed when you do your "follow the leader" bit, you show it slowly with the left hand crossing under the right hand to play the floor tom, but when you speed it up, you've got your left hand coming over the right. Obviously that works for you, since your speed is ridiculous (in a good way), but is it just a matter of feel for the individual drummer or is one way more proper than the other? Thanks.

  • @wedel219 Whatever works for you as a drummer. I guess when I was playing it slower it felt better to go under but when I got faster i must have naturally went over because it felt better. Whatever works. RVP

  • Thanks for the tips! Very helpful.

  • Your crossovers are beautiful. Your a machine

  • Dis is good. Dis is more gooder dan all da' rest.

  • I like it!!!

  • good stuff....but your pinkies annoy the hell out of me

  • This is more showing off then a lesson. Sorry

  • @Deftard

    What were you expecting?

Maybe he steps out of your computer monitor while you're playing your own kit. Then, he gently reaches from behind you and places your hands into his, hitting your sticks firmly, yet carefully on to each drum, doing all the work for you . . .

  • awesome,

  • Hey guys, i just recently poted my free styling video but please read the description before thank you. Just serach " Drumming by Vincenzo Mariano"

  • hëhe_ãÑyÒñe_wÀñÑA_chÃt_wïth_mË_ï_fEël_so_lõNely_tódãY∟

  • May I say that you seem to be some what restricticed by your technique. You may want to mention that this form of executing the `triplet sound` is the most basic way of doing it.

P.s. What is the purpose of a double bass peddle antway?

Is it so... one foot helps the other do what it is suppost to do on its own..? If any one wants to comment on how great all these wanna be youtube`r so called drummers are, they should have a good look at some Buddy Rich videos first. Then J Bonham.

  • lol yeah every drummer does this now days.

check out my drum vids! and drum lessons

  • Is this guy a doctor?

  • it sound stupid, but is death metal drumming based on triplets, because when you did it really fast, it kinda sounded like death metal, I dont listen to death metal, I just thought is sounded like that

  • I just love how he, after the amazing drumming from 4:02 till 4:41, he ends with "Anyway".

    Awesomeness to the max.

  • What a beast.

  • Are those Evans or Remo drumheads?

  • 89 people don't know where to find the "like" button

  • Check Out my lesson on ALTERNATING triplets!

  • When practising this i find as soon as i get to a fast tempo the bass drum joins in with the tom and looses its awesomeness..

  • im doing a drum solo in bout a week for school,,,,should i do more quads, are trips?

  • DIRTYYYY MY MANN!!!

  • amazing

  • Excellent video!!! interesting, ive finnaly found a really good instructor on youtube and his name just happens to also be "Van" apparently..lol I just started playing drums about 6 months ago. Just got my first kit and im really enjoying playing in a band with some friends from other bands i play in. I struggle with fills but this video helped me a lot. Great tip on switching what hand is doing the floor tom and snare!!! Not only effective but very flashy and cool.U sell lessons?

  • @VanXHydrA Thanks for the support and comments. Yes I have 2 DVD's on the market. Check them out at the link below.

  • Your vids are very helpful. Im self taught, so this is challenging me to develop different habits and adding more tools to the "toolbox" so to speak. Thanks much for sharing

  • Very cool. I can't understand how people can do that. His brain must be a quad-core.

  • Not only are you the most inspirational drum teacher on youtube but you have actually improved my drumming! Thanks man.

  • lol "like my sound effects?

  • I peed.

  • Just curious do you mute your kick drum?

  • @TH3xGRAPIST i want in ;) i get 1/3 of the mini drum sets cuz DKFA said so.

  • Sir...I wanna have sex and make mini drum babies with your drumkit!

  • @TH3xGRAPIST rofl

  • woooooooooooooooo!!!!!

  • You're such a good teacher

  • @trane101- How could u say that John Bonham sucks???!!! Hes is in my opinion one of the greatest rock n' roll drummers of all time!

  • @16JohnBonham I don't see hwere anyone said he sucked , and if they did .... well to be quite frank , FUCK 'EM, John Bohnam was and is ans always will be as stated bytrane101..... " LEGEND.......... DARY !!!!!!

  • holy shit

  • trane101 you are completely fucking 100% fucking retarted for 2 reasons, 1, john bonham had the fastest single kick tripelets ever, and 2, he wrote such songs as since i've been lovin you and, dazed and confused clearly chops aren't everything...and I would looovvvveee to see a 9 year old play the drum solo from moby dick

  • is it alright if i start out with my left hand then bass drum and then right hand ... i am right handed ... does this make a difference im i doing it wrong

  • john bonham fucking sucks i dont understand why anyone likes him!!!!! honestly a 9 year old could play everything he plays! ugh im angry lol

  • @trane101 alright... you must be a youngster. I'll tell you why Bonham is so popular still to this day. First, he was the timekeeper for Led Zeppelin. Second, his techniques (although simple), coupled by his recorded sound (which can be heard on any Zeppelin album) was miles ahead of it's time for rock & roll - nobody did it like he did, although many tried. Third, Every single Zeppelin album is legendary. 4th, all drum kits today are engineered to sound like his - including yours.

  • @beAllbugger I must agree and also add that even the simplest beat John would play would just Groove! A MEAN GROOVE!

  • @trane101 really? a 9 year old can play moby dick and bonzo's montreux? really? ur an idiot

  • @trane101 you sir are a fucking queer get the fuck out

  • @trane101 show us , get out the cam corder n lets see the 9 yr old get it right ..... actually, it is possible if he is a prodigy, just like JB, and other talented people, just at a predisposition to be very good at certain things , however , not your avg 9 yr old, just bangin' around on the drums , isn't gonna play the whole moby dick and hit it like he;s bonzo, sorry but , he is awesome , timeless music , Led Zeppelin and John Bohnam FUCKIN' ROCK !!!

  • @trane101 john bonham sucks?? you must be a fucking just bieber fan just writing bullshit like this to piss people off. how bout you fuck off and go listen to brittany spears and other faggy records and leave all this stuff to REAL musicians.

  • I have to know, are you using a double pedal?!?!

  • @Cold532 no he isnt

  • @Cold532 Not for all the triplets, At the very end I do follow the leader around the toms using a double pedal doing quads. RVP

    vanzdrumming com

  • @Cold532 i think his high hat is moving when he does it

  • @Cold532 btw, jorn bonham is like know for his single foot triplets .. like in the song good time bad times.. he hits the hi hat then double taps the bass .. its his signature move

  • Real nice!

    Sweetness!

You're better than that Gary LeFrancois character...

  • MUCHAS GRACIAS !!

  • Great

  • Good technique and those Yamahahahas sound so good.

  • i know he's using HH but when he's doing the 4's at the end of the video it sounds like he using both pedals...since the HH is still

  • was hoping for triplets without basskick been playing those and wanted to see if there's a way to make it cleaner and trying to fit it into beats and kenshireen he's using hihat on there so no doublebass

  • are you using two bass drum beaters

  • When I used to take lessons back in66',my teacher was Howie Mann. He would show me slowly how it was done, and then speed it up. I would be in awe of his talent. My biggest mistake in life was when I quit my lessons !!!!!!!. I was progressing

really good too.I LOVED DOING TRIPLETS ! I LOVE DRUMS ! I am going o get a new set soon, and learn from you tube ! LUDWIG AND A. ZILDJIAN CYMBALS ONLY !!!!!!!. THANK YOU

  • Great

  • Hi, Thanks for these videos.

Did you think sometime include a foot camera?

  • Ace drumming. You don't look like a drummer. What's you proper job?

  • @ALNEAL wtf? did jim chapin look like a drummer? matt chamberlin? aaron spears? stoopid comment.

  • @sparkles67 Not quite as stupid as your STOOPID spelling.

  • @ALNEAL ooohhhh, THATS how you spell stupid, thanks for clearing that up.

  • Man that was something else, in a real Bonzo-esque style! I don't even play drums but hearing those triplets and quads on the Bass, Toms, Snare takes me back big time, an absolute pleasure to watch and listen to that man :O

  • another "follow the leader" ^.^

  • ok after a while you were just showing off...but it was awesome
