Megaman 7 has always been my favourite of the original Megaman series, sure the robot masters were pretty weak, but the actual stage themes were INCREDIBLY memorable IMO. I'm probably in the VAST minority on this, but meh, it happens.
A lot of the songs from megaman 7 are good, but some have recycled parts from other megaman songs. For instance, this song uses quickman's theme starting 7 seconds in. I can't help but feel like they were being rushed when making these games and it came out in the music sometimes. It lacks originality.
Mega Man 7 isn't hated because it's 16-bit. That's like saying the post-S3&K Sonic games were hated because they're not 16-bit.
MM7 is hated because after the quick precision of the 8-bit Mega Mans, MM7's gameplay felt clunky and slow. Plus the large sprites made the game more difficult than necessary. Don't forget that Mega Man 7 came out on the same console as the first X games. So it had to contend with those games too.
It's by itself a good game, but nothing special IMO.
I personally think Megaman 7 is underrated. But hey, we all have different tastes. I got used to the sprites being big. The physiscs are messed up, though, but it's not like its such a big problem that it completely breaks the game for me.
@EdmacZ ...people also don't like it for not being 8-bit. That style is classic mega man... I'm happy 9 and 10 are like that. Thank god for the FC remakes.
The more I listen to this track the more I find out that the only thing that sounds better in 8-bit is the intro (just something about it that sounds awesome). Now that I've listened the the original SNES MM7's OST and the 8-bit version's OST more so than at the time I posted this, the only tracks that I think are better in 8-bit are Turbo Man's level and the weapon get track. Everything else IMO is either better in 16-bit, or is no better neither worse.
True. It seems as though Mega Man 7 in general is an overly hated game simply because it is 16-Bit, which is retarded. Personally, I think that MM7 is one of my favorite games in the series, and far better than several of the NES games. At the very least, I feel as though MM7 is superior to MM1, 2, and 4.
I think people hate it because there was too much stuff to find (some of it you would never guess unless you look up a walkthrough) and alot of the items in the shop costed a ton of bolts. I think it adds to the replay value though. Another reason is the controls are a bit clumsy, but that doesn't mean you can't get used to it. There's also the fact that people rather the NES style of 8 bosses from the start. MM7 is really under-rated. It's a great game when you know how to actualy enjoy it.
It really is a great game. Regarding the controls, I played some of the older Mega Man games when I was younger, specifically Dr. Wily's Revenge, and I thought the controls for that game were bad. It was actually only recently that I've started to understand what a great series Mega Man is.:)
@OP: The Slash Claw is short-range, but it'll wreck your shit.

@Tenorsaxman3030 I use XPadder. Never heard of "joy2key" that Tenorsaxman3030 suggested but might look into it.

This would be cool on the virtual console even though it's fan made.

Personally, Slash Man sounds better in 8-bit to me. But that's just me. The SNES version still has the superior Turbo Man, though.

I personally never had any grudge against MM7.
It's just the basic gameplay you see in the other games, plus updated graphics.
Personally it's not a bad thing when you think about it nowadays.

@Snakebite2468
7 is actually my favorite in the classic series.
I don't know if that's because of my love for the SNES, but yeah. And I still love the NES ones to death.

I will say that some of these MM7 songs sound pretty good in 8-Bit. However, I'd take their original 16-Bit versions anyday.

@GenesisSanctuary agreed, but it's fun to have 8 bit as an alternative. Imagine if they did the Wily Wars on MM4,5,and 6. That'd kick ass.
