  • you need to piss that aluminium flywheel off and put a cast iron one back on, the old one should still work with the new magneto coil. Flywheel isn't heavy enough to keep the momentum of the engine running smooth. That's one reason why its bouncing around like that and also the reason its very hard to get it going (plus your fuel leak of course)

  • @TheAstro30 Fair point, I may need to put the other one back on, somebody else took the iron one off the engine earlier.

  • Hey Dave how about turning the needle valve in a bit to lean it out, the black smoke could mean just running to rich ........

  • good to see her running.... do you have any plans for what its gonna be in? i bet it would make a great go-kart or minibike...

  • I had a engine just like that I let my neighbor barrow it for his go kart and a month later I get it back it's all scored up and there was barely any oil in it

  • @SuperchargedMustang5 That sucks, I hate when people don't check the oil in engines :(

  • @gpzDave i know!! it sucks

  • Good job, Dave my friend. She's getting better and better. :~) God bless. John

  • @snaponjohn100 Thanks John, at least it's progress! ;)

  • I thought someone gave you a tilly carb?

  • @dc5000123 No, but I did get a replacement carb for this engine a while back, I used the good half of the old one with the good half of the 'new' one and that's what's currently on there. I think the float isn't sitting right perhaps.

  • u have a light flywheel on there still dont u

  • @shinyfuzzy Yeah it's that aluminium one, but it seems to be going OK so far, but I haven't got the engine to fuel correctly yet so I can't test if it idles or not...

  • hey mate. Little trick to starting up a briggs with these 'updraft' carbs.... the choke does fack all. So give it choke for the first pull, this will flood the bottom of the carb. Open the choke and then it should start with another pull.

  • @MO3MINI Oh cool thanks Dan thanks that's a good tip! I wondered why it stopped leaking out most of the petrol when I put the choke off... And it wouldn't start at all with the choke on, so I'll just put it on for the first go next time :)

  • I had that problem carb float had got stuck and with a pitbike it would run rich then shut off sometimes u just give it a good old rev and that pop back into good health or u have to strip carb a tweak the air mixture or idle hope u get it running good

  • @motorbikesrule125 Hey dude yeah one day I'll have a look in the carb and see what the story is in there, maybe the float is sitting a bit wrong or something...

  • aye i think its broken

  • @5bananas1 Maybe... but this is as close fixed as it's been for the last 10 years! ;)

  • Sticking a bit haha

  • @2wheelsteve Just a bit, honest! ;)

  • @2wheelsteve Just a bit, honest! ;)

  • Does your gas tank have a vent?

  • @dc5000123 I did put a vent hole in it and the lid doesn't fit properly either so I don't think it's that... I'll open up the carburettor one day and see what's happening in there.

  • 99% of the problem is that carburetor.

  • @dc5000123 Is the 1% me? :P

  • @gpzDave No no, the 1% is the fuel leak. LOL !!!!!!

  • That gas was running out of it like a faucet - ha

  • @zakyum Yes I'm afraid it's not being very fuel efficient at the moment ;)

  • running sweet at 2:47, may be a tad rich though, I think you're right, I saw it leaking fuel around 3:19

  • @fergfergferg123 2:47 was the smoothest it has ever ran, previously I've had it revving up but never before has it ran smoothly on 1/3 throttle like it did here. I'm happy, it's improving with time! :)
