@mayhem380 Imperial Guard can use bolters actually it's just not standard issue. Now, if the bolter was tainted with Chaos. Different story. Besides, that's heretical.

Also for everyone here. Dawn of War II and Space Marine have gotten things down with the bolter. Hell, they even got the clip sizes right. God forbid your bullet holes don't make craters makes the game less "realistic."

And finally for this video. This wouldn't happen to the Black Legion. Leave it to the Alpha Legion to fuck up

and the armor of most races could handle the bullets so thay kept that as well even showing the orcs can take heavy damage in hand to hand combat but ltlle in a ranged fight chaos and the space marines are balenced but heavily armored but the imperial guard were the mopst weaklest army in the dawn of war game so dont get insulting warhammer dawn pof war when you havnt played the original warhammer 40k game

i think the bolter actually fires armour penetrating bullets that explodes on impact so if you get one in your shoulder say goodbye to your arm and just imagine how overpower the space marines would have been in dawn of war if the bolter actually were like that :P

But it was probly for balancing , how would you like it in a RTS like dawn war, if a army of heavily armored guys with rapid fire rocket lanchers were cutting your army to pieces. But they could have put effects like that with explosions but with the same damage to make it look better.

@lordofgangstas um the space marine bolter has ammo the size of a males middle finger and the rounds explode on impact the gun its self is around 35 cm long AND it can rapid fire as well so yeah they got it right in dawn of war and space marine.

read the space marine codex on the table top game dude it says it all...

@lordofgangstas Seriously, if you just pick up your Codex and read what it says about the bolter it states that it is a weapon that fires self propelling bolts, that scatter on impact and when INSIDE the target's flesh or armour they explode. The shit these boltguns fire are more like the Dragonfire-rounds (or something) that the Sternguard use. This game has some weird, semi-automatic bolters. I always imagined them full auto.

Not true. The bolter is a rapid fire gun that fires small explosive projectiles. If anything, Dawn of War was closer to it than Fire Warrior. And now that I look at it, this comment was posted a year ago, so my point is moot.... Oh well, I spent the time to write it, so Ima post it anyway.

I think what the guy meant was that games like Dawn of War tend to make bolters just sound like modern large-caliber machine guns, all BANG-BANG-BANG and ignoring the roar of each bolt's rocket propellant carrying it to the target. This game gets the sound right, and it's sad that more modern games don't.

Well, the Tau is one of the foremost Tau commanders now, so it actually makes plenty of sense. In Dawn of War Dark Crusade he can kill a whole squad of Obliterators single handedly.
