  • increible la voz, me encantò!

  • waww

  • @EmilyGreene1984. If you believe this is an insult, no problems at all, I will surely not make you change your opinion. But think about this: "androgynous voice" may have a lot of meanings, but definitely NOT it' s a male voice or "sounding like a man".

  • @EmilyGreene1984 . I am Ornadheim. Sincerely, I hardly understand your message. Rossini and other composers wrote that. Well? You have risen up objective matters I will never deny (and I don' t even want to do that). But, to my ears, contralto register sounds like an androgynous voice, and always will do. That' s why I like it so much: something unique, rare, hard to find.

  • kraljica je:)

  • I sincerely believe that contralto is the best wonderful female voice... it sounds quite androgynous, a wonderfulm and charming union.

Instead, I got fed up with sopranos.

And that's not saying anything bad about sopranos.

  • @Ornadheim That actually is a bit insulting because women, who are contraltos, try to put forward the feminine aspect of their voice. Even composers like Rossini wrote that it is a common mistake to think of the female contralto as sounding like a man.

  • it`s contralto? isnt it?

  • @FDGDSFg332 Yes, in opera the lowest female fach is contralto. Alto is just a vocal range in choral music. Voice type in opera has to do not only with range but with the weight and color of the voice, any female could sing alto in a choir, regardless of her true voice type.

  • qualcuno saprebbe dirmi dove trovo lo sparito o il testo?

  • Just lovely - passion, temperament, strength!

  • Magnífica intérprete... me encanta...

  • BRAVO MARIJANAq BRAVO VIVALDI!

  • Ella es una contralto o mezzo???

  • she slisses, doesn't she?

  • oh... speechless

  • Que voz un color y un dominio execelente!!!

  • maybe someone have a score for this aria? it is urgent...

  • Bravo!

  • very very good .....

    love you türkiye

  • Uma contralto poderosa!!!!!!

  • Bravo za Marijanu!!!!! Nasu Valjevku :)

  • you should hear her speaking voice ... sooo low ...

  • in questo video c'è tutto: tecnica, voce pulita e pura,è una delle poche che non fa i gravi ingolati, brava sei grandissima

  • Wow, she actually scared me! Amazing voice!

  • She has a beautiful voice, not usually a fan of contraltos, but she adds a beautiful feminine quality to the vocal range.

  • Not just an alto...a contralto!

  • hey ...is she alto or mezzo??? anybody know?

  • alto

  • I just love! Can't stop listening to this and she's so damn gorgeous!!

When she does her angry eyes I melt!

  • which is why I'll go and see her sing @TCE, on april 13th hahaha

can't remember the whole schedule, but she'll sing the alto part of Pergolesi's stabat mater

    *I know I'm cruel*

  • And who says I'm not going?

And who says I'm not going with your music teacher? ;) ;) ;)

  • She like big rage boom!! noone could stand on her magnificent throat, she Unbreakable.

  • When I bought this recording, I totally thought this character was sung by a countertenor. It was very interesting to watch this video and find out that it wasn't one.

  • yeah, i thought that, too. she really does have a very masculine timbre, doesn't she? i really love her voice the way it is :D

  • If this was sung in a real opera... she would perform the character very well with her style of voice...

Asteria is sorta a "raspy", desiring character... who won't let anyone get in her way... I thikn that's how i remember her

  • Well that would be disturbing considering this is the daughter of Bajazet.

  • bellissima e bravissima...

  • Gracias!

  • I couldn't help posting another comment. Her voice is just surreal. No other humain being sings or acts the way she does : Marijana's truly unique. Definitely one of the best current Baroque singers.

  • God she's so stunning! The only heiress to Ewa Podles legacy.

  • Bajazet (BAYEZİT YAVUZ SULTAN SELİM)is a turkish Ottoman Empire, great leader and vivaldi creat this Opera to tell the fight wit another great turk warrior Tamarlen (Timur lenk )Timur crimpled it mean this name, the war was near to Ankara the capital of the modern Turkey.

  • no "bajazet" is not the same sultan with "yavuz". bajazet is 100 years before than him. this opera is about the famous "ankara war" in 1402.

  • yes the real name is Yıldırım beyazit and he is turkish Ottoman Empire

  • Sublime...

  • love Ur genes, MM ;)

  • What is she singing?

  • originally posted by margotlorena 10 months ago: svena, uccidi, abbatti, atterra. piaghe, morte, strage, guerra sempre in vita incontrerò. e tu padre, in me riposa, dietro, all'ombra generosa a momenti volerò stab me, kill me, beat me, fell me. wounds, death, massacres and war shall I suffer throughout my life. Father, rely on me, very soon I shall be following, your gallant shade.
  • @Thrax1982 There is no "me" in the lyrics though...its :take the veins out, kill, beat, slam to the earth, wounds, death, massacre and war shall i encounter in my life. And you father, rest within me. Behind the generous shadow, from time to time, i shall fly.

  • Right, and if she were a bit chubby, we'd get comments about how she's too fat. Since when is being slim a problem? A good maxim for some people: Silence is golden.

  • She's getting thinner and thinner. Fat doesn't bother me at all.

  • Is she ?She's just given birth to her first child,so I'd be surprised if she was getting slimer.Even if she were, who cares ? She's probably the greatest current contralto. You just seem to be full of baloney my dear ; but then again, when people have nothing better to do, they badmouth, don't they? I'm surprised your "exquisite" artistry hasn't made you famous yet. Your words seem so full of jealousy and frustration... Hope you'll get over not even being close to being as great as Marijana.

  • Well, I'd have to agree with Suchiibenchan at least a little bit. For me Mijanovic is one of the greatest singers of our time, but I'm worried wether her being so thin might influence her voice in a negative way. I already read somewhere (an interview, I think) that she had some problems with reflux. Please, woman, eat something, we want to listen to your voice in decades to come! :)

  • I've read the article about the reflux she suffered from: it was just before recording Cesare. She'd just broken through and suddenly her schedule was full. She wasn't accustomed to working at that pace and it took a while to her body to adjust to it.Nothing to do with her weight, though. Her voice is less flexible than before, but she's nontheless great and all the more expressive. I'm curious to hear what her voice will be like, since she's just given birth to her first child. It may be darker..

  • Yes, you may be right. Also, having a child is known to do two things to a woman - make her voice more beautiful and her ass bigger. So we might have a solution. ;) Anyhow, I love her and I am very proud that my country has given such a wonderful artist. Marijana, samo tako nastavi, najbolja si! :)

  • Evaeke, I totally agree with!

People who make up bad criticism are either jelous or uninformed!

  • I didn't get to comment on this video, but what I wanted to say was this: Beautiful voice, splendid technique and I don't really care of how she looks physically. For an opera singer to be successful by looking a certain way is really stereotypical!

    Beautiful music!!

  • OMG! Really!!! People on Youtube can be so silly! If anyone is singing gorgeous and there is no way to criticize they seem to find something else instead: Too fat, too skinny! if Marijana Mijanovic (or any other singer mentioned here) happen to look at this conversation she would either be hurt or think you all are nutcases!

  • See, people, that's the voice of reason.

    :)

  • You're SO right!

  • She is really powerfull!

  • Since when thin=anorectic???

I, for example, eat like a horse and still you could count every bone in my body.

Different people have different metabolism - that's all.

  • your a twit

  • she simply can't be anorexical... anorexical grils are histerical, crazy and totally lack control of themselves, so, they ca`'t be opera singers or what ever activity that involves their body, and singing is a 100% physical activity...

she is simply great and intelligent, so she is thin as the society demands, we have a proverb in colombia... fat people are loved just by their mothers hehehehhehehehehhe

  • i worked on this piece on my guitar as an exercice it's realy fun with an electric guitar!!

  • What is she singing? Who wrote this musik?

  • vivaldi

  • Thanks for the information, it's beautifull. Is this an opera?

  • Comment removed

  • Vivaldi the one :>

  • she is a contralto, am i right?

  • where she come from?

  • From Serbia !!!

  • she is amazing,brilliant,handsome women.

    GOD......I love her.

  • I forgot thank u.

    thank u!

  • Where I can get this score?

  • yea me too- I'm a countertenor and I would love to sing this aria.

  • amazing!!!

  • Incredibly well sung! brava!!

  • Stop blabbering about this weight shit!!!!

She is a verry good singer.

Go and buy her NEW Handel disk...

    Greetings,

    Andreas.

    X

  • I agree- Just becuase she's skinny doesn't mean she has a problem.. Opera singers aim to be skinny becuase its such a hard task to be able to sing on stage with such heavy weight about you. Thats partly why Deborah Voight got her surgery (aside from the fact that Covent Garden fired her for basically being too fat to fit into a dress.) I actually like the look she has going on- its better than that harlot Anna Netrebko!

  • I don't care if she is fat skinny or what... She is just amazing !

So bad there is no other video about her on youtube.

  • Honey I agree with you!!!!!

    Thanx.

  • I do not believe weight or build has anything to do do with vocal ability at all, it is merely a perceptual bias.

  • WOW!!! she is wanderful!!!

  • Oh, please, listen to the music she brings, and stop gossiping about things around, the body if the singers does not interest anyone, except in show business, not in classical music. She thin, ok, and so what?

  • BRAVISSIMO!!! sono d'accordo con te!!! 1000 volte bravo

  • I hope she's doing something about her obvious anorexia?

  • Your knowledge of singing is null. Singing is physicaly straining and you have to be in tip top condition withstand a performance. I know because I've been doing it for sixteen years. All types of muscles are used while singing. People who suffer from anorexia nervosa develop muscle weakness, so I doubt she has anorexia.

  • Actually, I am a singer. A classical one.

I also know from others that this singer is now even thinner. Anorexia? Maybe not. Maybe she has bulimia instead. Either way, she needs good meal and needs to keep it down.

  • Well, if you're a classical singer then you'll know how tired you feel after performing. Just because she's getting doesn't mean it's an eating disorder. Maybe it's a hormonal problem. I myslef have hyperthyrodism, which causes major weight loss, although I have a voracious appetite. Don't forget that this woman performs all over the world and I imagine that she has a very stressful routine.

  • .... and maybe she has anorexia.

Occam's Razor. If it looks like a cat, feels like a cat, acts like a cat and smells like a cat, it is probably a cat.

I also found the hint of a supercilious "attitude" of this singer towards the maestro and his colleagues, most displeasing. She doesn't seem to be interested in engaging with other performers.

BTW, I have the DVD of "Il ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria" and she looks a lot worse there! Nothing a few good meals couldn't fix.

  • Suchiibenchan, for you not to like her singing is your right :after all, all tastes are in nature, even though she's recognized to be one of the best and most expressive baroque singers. What I find odd though is for you to say that she exhibits a supercillious behaviour towards the conductor or her colleagues.I happen to have heard the very same comment from a critic who couldn't find anything to criticize about her artistry. It seems that someone is just repeating what he's heard parrot fashion.

  • I find her singing pedantic and often a little perverse. She does use too much vibrato and she contorts her face when she sings in a most displeasing way. She sings Monteverdi in much the same way she sings Vivaldi or any other music, for that matter.

I do find things to criticise in her artistry.

  • "Pendantic", "perverse". Those are very strong comments with no justification. Sound very gratuitous to me, but after all, what else can one make but empty comment when there's nothing to criticize. Now about her vibrato, it sounds so odd that you should claim that she uses too much of it, since she virtually uses none in this aria. About the so called "contortions", she sings about suffering and dying, so is she expected to smile when she expresses suffering? Really, amazingly empty comments...

  • I wonder why so many top Classical singers get chubby, then? Seen Lisa Milne lately? René Fleming stacked on the kilos, too! Let us not mention Jessye Norman!

    ;-))

  • Okay... well don't be pissed just because *you're* not that skinny.

How dare I, huh? You brought it on yourself.

  • Reading this is pretty amusing.

  • Really--- Because this woman has a thin build, Suchiibenchan presumes to be able to see a "supercilous attitude" and believes she's anorexic? That's ridiculous!

Mijanovic sings fine, and her physical stature is not what should be criticized. People who criticize such things are often merely self-conscious about themselves.

  • Plus- with Suchiibenchan's reasoning... all classical singers should be "stacking on the kilos." That's completely ludicrous. So much for Ian Bostridge, Alexandrina Pendatchanska, Elina Garanca, etc. etc. etc. then.

  • Bravissimaaa!!! Una técnica y una expresion buenissima... Me encanta!!

  • una de las grandes voces de la actualdad!! hermoso color, tonos, una gran contralto de las pocas y talentosas!!!!

  • Brava davvero! Bella voce da contralto...

  • stab me, kill me, beat me, fell me.

    wounds, death, massacres and war

shall I suffer throughout my life.

    Father, rely on me,

very soon I shall be following,

    your gallant shade.

  • Yeesh... talk about morbid!

  • haha... she'd rather died with his father than marry tamerlano, I love the poetry of this opera...

  • Yeah and this song captures that kind of mood REEEEEALLY well. Plus Tamerlano sounds like a real meanie. lol

  • svena, uccidi, abbatti, atterra.

    piaghe, morte, strage, guerra

    sempre in vita incontrerò.

e tu padre, in me riposa,

    dietro, all'ombra generosa

    a momenti volerò

  • Listened to her as Giulio Cesare yesterday (Theater an der Wien, Vienna). Loved that performance. And that one is amazing. And: She´s not small - must be about 1,75 m or even taller.

  • is amazing I really want to sing like her , I'm mozzosoprano and I really hard working with barroc arias

  • Great voice!

  • I can't stop listening, she is sooooo wonderfull!!!!

  • i got her 'giulio cesare'. she's great!

  • I've heard parts of THAT recording with Minkowski!

She uses more chest notes there, verry masculine.

    I love her voice!!!!

Hope she will sing in more recordings...

    Orfeo, Gluck???

  • She is a Dutch Contralto....a BIG talent for the future!!!!

  • She's a SERBIAN contralto, thank you very much, but she studied in Holland. She's currently living in Switzerland. Oh, and I almost forgot - WHAT A PERFORMANCE! I LOVE HER!!!

  • I agree, she is amazing! I keep looking at her and wondering how that voice comes out of someone so small.

  • @andreasscholl She is a Serbian one!
