i recall my cat & rats. the cat HATED the scrutiny, though she did love the rats (especially Whiskas. the only rat i ever heard of with absolutely NO neophobia) & she seemed aware that the other 3 feared her. so she watched them, but kept back. but Zeb & Whiskas were thoroughly inseperable. she even mourned at the rat's grave. great vids, bud :)

The beginning reminded me of when I got my first rats. My dog (who normally chases other animals,) completely freaked out when they first tried to climb on top of her. So the rats had to chase her. Now my dog is the one who can´t get enough of the rats. The rats get really annoyed when she doesn´t leave them alone, but they are not scared AT ALL!!

my friend has one rat and its in a really small cage with only a tunnell and it sleeps in there and stuff, then it just looks about, its a wee shame it seems so unhappy, and she doesnt get it out that much cause it bites, no wonder.

My brother treated his rat the same way. She was extremely mean while in her cage, but the second you let her out she was adorably sweet. I loved playing with her so much, but my brother always yelled at me for taking her out of her cage. I couldn't help it though. You could tell she was unhappy and it didn't seem very far for her to live her life in a tiny cage when she obviously just wanted attention.

I used to have two cats who were both older than me (I'm now 14) but both died from old age... I've always wanted a pet rat though; they are cute, friendly, funny, not nocturnal and very tame from what I've seen. My mum doesn't like them though, so I'll have to wait until I leave home :/

My uncle once left me his chinchillas - a male and a female. I had my female miniature rabbit Queenie back then. The male chinchilla was escaping from the cage all the time, chasing my rabbit, and the female looked very sad and lonely and let out pinching noises as if she was crying.

The happy end is, that one day my rabbit had enough of this escaping and rejected the male chinchilla, kicking it in face. It went back to it's female, and everybody rejoiced :P

@nelsonricardocosta Healthy domestic rats have a life span of about 3 years. You MUST buy at least two-- and of the same sex. A female rat can reproduce at least 3 times a year, producing up to 15 with each litter. Some live longer, some live shorter-- I had one that lived 6 years-- but that was WAY out of the norm. I also had one that developed aggressive cancer at 6 months and died at 8 months.

I recommend getting two, but more= more fun! :)

@nelsonricardocosta i think the lifespan o a pet rat can very from 1-3 years.. my first was 2.5 years (from a pet shop) second 1.8 years (pet shop) and the next two almost 2 years (from a specialised 'shop') they all died of the same cancer, a big tumor growing out of nowhere suddenly very quickly.... (I have no cats) cheers!

At least your Peanut had found love in the end... I had a kitty once that use to love my hamsters, she would mother them... It was so cool watching how she used to watch over them, the one hamster would crawl over her and cuddle their and my kitty wouldnt move till I moved the hamster..
