I'm the same. I don't do shiai as much as I'd like too but soon I'll have to fight for my 1st dan. Its so frustrating in shiai having your arms so tightly locked up and it dramatically frustrates my attempts to turn in for techniques.
Did this stuff help, or do you have anything you'd reccomend?

That good against a right handed opponent, for a left handed opponent it might be a bit more difficult

Jung from KOrea uses this sequence with a lower grip on the lapel (one your first grip) for left on right scenarios.
