That Dylan has been a big influence on Petty cannot be denied, but you can easily hear the Beatles, the Stones and certainly the Byrds as well. But to suggest that Petty is just Dylan, Version2.0, is simply not true. Are there common characteristics? No doubt. But there are huge differences too. They are not one & the same. Glad you like McCartney.
