P.S. All you guitar pickers who dig this - do check out Robert Normann here on YouTube as well - probably the first guitar player I ever saw (he used to play during the breaks on national TV over here in Norway back in the 60s/early 70s).
I''ve never heard anyone get that clear tone out of guitar like Speedy did. I could tell his guitar playing in a cast of thousands. He taught me so much about music and being an entertainer..........a debt I can never repay. RIP my friend. God bless you.
Fantastic! I grew up listening to KWTO. Met Speedy at Ike Martin's and, I think, in Sedalia at the State Fair. Springfield had some of the best guitar players in the business during the 40's and 50's and Speedy could hold his own with the best of them. I heard he went to Nashville with Porter and got homesick and left. Any truth to that or is it just a good story? He was a very clean player and extremely versatile. He seemed to have a sense of humor a mile wide. Thanks for posting this.
i don't know what you call that style, but I love the swings with the whammy bar and the way he's slurring the notes, very nice
