@bhabooshka Los Lobos has 4 (that I know of) studio versions of "La Bamba". Some versions of La Bamba are tight, fast, and technically proficient, instrumentally speaking, and some aren't. Whatever the mood, the song is going to reflect it. I've heard quite a few versions of La Bamba, and I wouldn't describe any of them as hilarious really but...you know how the story goes....

la bamba is a son jarocho and this is not jarocho at all... plus, what ricardo valenzuela did with la bamba totally messed it up. and the bassline for the harp on this video is incorrect
Folk music by definition is open to great variety in variation. I prefer the traditional version but I respect what Richie Valenzuela was trying to do. I like the harp on this, but I have seen Paraguayan musicians do it better.
The harp player is not even that good and paraguayos play different they play with their nails. The true and original style of this is al estilo veracruzano or jarocho you should really listen to some Mono Blanco or Andres Huesca
