I understand why they deleted it. It wasn't because of the importance, but because the introduction composition "Obliviate" was composed specifically for the chosen scenes, otherwise they would have kept it. Let me know if I am wrong
When petunia turns back to say something and changes her mind (in the book) I hope to God she was going to say this. Every time I read "and with a jerk of her head walked away" I think, man, what was she about to say about everything?
I can understand why they cut the Dudley exchange (it was quite drawn out and the fat suit wasn't very convincing), but this scene really has some terrific emotional depth. They should have kept it in.
This should have Stayed!!!!!! Even though it wasn't actually in the book, I wish It had stayed in the movie (and I never thought they were good at picking scenes to keep or cut.) DH was probably the best out of them all (so i suppose they learned a little bit) but when the other movies came out (although I love them) as far as accuracy they really made me mad, especially HBP. To me it seems like they cut out the Important stuff.
I find it hard to believe that aunt Petunia should really have this emotion about her sister, while she let Harry live worse than a dog for 17 years of his life (counting the summers he spent with them after he entered Hogwards). The way they treated him, I don't find it realistic that she would care about him or his mother at all.
@thivai289 She didn't really hate her sister she was just jealous. And as for the way she treated Harry. . . . . . . . . . I think she honestly became afraid of magic after Lily died.
@thivai289 She hates magic and feared it. Her relationship with her sister is horrible. Do you expect her to treat her nephew kindly when their relationship is horrible.
I know i'm not going to get tumbs up, but technically, it's because of the style of the scene. They originally had one dialogued scenes involving the trio talking with their parents/tutor. There was a scene with Hermione's parents talking about Australia, and a scene with Ron talking with his father too. but, the scene in the theater release being undialogued, it was kind of anticlimatic, cinematically ruining the rythm and atmosphere.I'm just analyzing.My teachers talk about this all the time.
why was this not in the movie?! the films needed something like this, just this small moment where aunt Petunia would open up a little. we've seen all the horrible times, where she has this disgust over her sister but deep down she misses her and we all sort of knew it, and we all sort of needed something like this to finally believe it.
Why the bloody hell was that not in the movie?! Its show that Petunia does, indeed, love her sister even though she showed it in a completely different way. Besides, its impossible to ever forget nor ever stop loving a sibling. The very person you played with as children and the one which would be a big part of your life for many years to come before you just want to get the hell outta your house when you turn eighteen. lol. I have a younger sister and I cannot imagine life without her.
why wasn't that in the movie, huh?? I mean it's EPIC showing Petunia did love her sister even if she showed differently. I mean sure, her treating Harry is HARD to forgive, but myself have (older) sister and if she and her husband were killed and I'd find my niece at my door I'd take her in and love as much as I only could.
@thomas4457 Petunia gave in to hate and jealousy and I feel angry at her for her treatment of Harry. But maybe she regretted her behavior over time and was just too proud to show it. Maybe we could forgive her, but you don't have to if you don't want to. I myself feel mixed feelings toward Petunia.
They should have put this in the movie. Watching the movies you never got that Petunia was jelouse of Lilly or how much she loved her. You just saw her as a bitch this 30 second scene would have showen that she did can for Lilly.
This was so important! It really humanized Petunia. I'm sad it wasn't included, but I'm glad I got to see it cause she did such a good job in this short bit. =)
This fucking needed to be in the movie i mean please we we are all like wtfock happen to them and delted scenes oh fuck this dammed this needed to be in the films
I only disliked it that they shortened the memories of Snape so much, that it still looked like his aunt hated Lilly, while in fact, she didn't to begin with. And this scene defines that even more(just like in the book).

then on the end you see 19 years later you see harry is a dad with his wife and ron is a dad with hermilin and you see they wave to there childerens to the train
OMG this is totally brilliant!! Why didn't they put it in the movie?? This is the first scene in the whole Harry Potter movie series, deleted or not, where I actually saw a J.K. Rowling scene brought into the screen the exact way she described it and I imagined it ;) OMG this mad eme cry so hard, it's such a fundamental part of Petunia's and Harry's life before the very end, why the hell have they chosen to delete it??
I AGREE GUYS; this scene was so amazing OuO but I guess not having it in leaves more to interpretation (like in the book). I personally think Petunia still cared for Lily deep down inside. :D
@EntertaingDelinKuent If that's how you see it, fine. Nevermind that it was written to be Petunia finally showing that she and Harry both share in common the fact that they lost Lilly. It also displays that a lot of her insecurities with him were a result of Lilly being killed in a magical way.
here i am, havin dedicated my time into reading the books all my childhood and THEY EFFING DELETED ALL THE BEST PARTS OF THE BOOK TO WHICH I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO WATCHING IN THE MOVIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
aw i like what they've done with that scene, even though petunia said nothing of this in the book i think they really delved deep into petunias mind and i think thats what she would have said if she hadn't been so embarrassed to say it. its a shame they cut it out.
I never thought about that. Petunia must have suffered too, thinking about it. Hmmm. Odd. Why on EARTH this was taken out, god knows. Well I hope SOMEONE know's, and it better be a bloody good reason.
Can anyone post the words they're saying from 0:13 to 0:26, please? I ain't able to understand. It would be very helpful to see those sentences written.
I wish this was another scene they would live it in the movie. In the book she did have a love hate relationship but I think this give a depth to the character of Aunt Petunia that was not seen in the movie but was in the books. It also show for the first time to Harry that she did love her sister in her own way. Harry only know her for the hate of the wizarding world as the thing that drove her and her sister apart but he never saw her how she did love her.
I agree with @daniii37 ! i wanted the dudley scene! in the book , petunia dosent feel remorse about lily..or maybe she does but she dosent say it! i want the dudley scene!!! :(
WHAT, WHAT, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? Honestly, what, the audience apparently can't handle a minute or two of learning that the jackasses who made Harry's life a living hell actually have capabilities of the heart? REALLY? -sigh- That's so sad. Petunia opening up is great! :'D
But what really got me was Dudley in the book. Now THAT scene would've been wonderful. <3
@RoyalGuard503 As true as pacing and movement are important, it still... perturbs me, I suppose. I mean I DO see why--I'd taken a class on film-making and 2D animation so it's not unknown to me; I'm prone to over-react is all. I'm sorry! I'm just nuts. XD
Should not have been cut. This scene is sooo telling and speaks volumes about both Petunia and Harry.
I know it was cut so that the intro could be 'the trio getting ready', but honestly I think it would've been better to just focus on Ron and Hermione. Hermione's scene stole the show anyway, and fleshing out Ron's scene wouldn't have been a bad idea.
That way when it cuts back to harry, it could've began with the shot of V and D packing and then goes into this scene and then Harry in his room
I think this could have been one of my favorite scenes of the movie. Lily and Petunia were sisters, they fought and didn't get along like all sisters do at that age but they were still sisters. I always felt like there was more to petunia. I felt like she cared for lily and for harry but kept it bottled up for some reason. I hate that they left this one out.
"You didn't just lose your mother that night in Godric's Hallow. I lost a sister."
Oh my god. She talked about Lily. The person she hated. Her dead sister. Why wasn't this put in? Why am I so calm about this? "They'll torture you." "You think I don't know what they're capable of?" HOLY CRAP.
@Gothchic452 Just one thing that I don't quite agree with you: I don't think she really hated Lily. When they were little they were so close, but then Lily went to Hogwarts and Petunia really resented her that, because she herself couldn't be a part of the whole wizarding world. But they obviously still kept at least a little in touch, but after Lily's death, Petunia starts to really hate all that is conected to wizards, because now they took Lily from her for good, they've killed her.
@ilovehotchocolat you are right, just the way she was seemed like she hated Lily. you know, "I hate magic!" and she just enever talked about her. And they are so, so, so, hmm...Different.
@ilovehotchocolat you know ive never seen it from that point of view..but it stinks that she treated her nephew horrible...but concidering that james was a part of that world that stole her sister away..i guess harry reminds her that her beloved sister..well..is gone because of people like him...
@cione08 Yeah, it totally stinks how she treated Harry . ˝...because of people like him...˝ - that's ste main problem. She started to seperate people like this: either they are wizards ('bad') or muggles ('good'), when of course, there are also 'good' wizards.
I believe this scene should have been in the movie. If they didn't show Dudley having a heart, they should have at least shown that Aunt Petunia had a secret heart for her sister.
they couldn't afford to have her appear as one of the "good guys" in the movie. The scene was too sentimental and would remind us of the muggle's humanity which is contrary to the wizard's perception of muggles being ignorant.
@Rawa7i yes, but the wizards who hold that particular view (the malfoys, voldemort, and such) are clearly in the wrong. i dont think it would have hurt to give petunia a heart
@jewelrytearsx In that case I only have one bullet left. She was a bitch throughout the entire series, why change that now with such an emotional scene?
They should have kept this in, honestly. It's short, and adds so much more depth to Petunia. Her acting was pretty great; It's nice to see other sides of her.
I agree I would rather the movies be five hours long with every important detail from the book than one that is only two and a half hours long with only half the events :(
@blueberry1004 Yeah, but you have to think... what about the money? what about the money you will have to pay for a 5 hours movie, think about the soul of a movie, a good movie is not a copy of the book, that would be absurd, if i want to watch the book again, i can read it
omg this just what I believe Petunia want to say to harry in the book. Petunia loved Lily, but her pride and jealousy prevented her from showing any love to Harry.
I think if they put this in they would have to start with the whole Dursely sequence and I think they wanted to open it more with drama. Still I think they could have fitted it in somewhere!!
This is so sad. :( This really shows Petunia's better traits.

This scene is so powerful, I can't believe they didn't put it in the movie :( It's such a great ending of Petunia's character :(

Gothchic452 11 months ago 4
"You didn't just lose your mother that night in Godric's Hallow. I lost a sister."
Oh my god. She talked about Lily. The person she hated. Her dead sister. Why wasn't this put in? Why am I so calm about this? "They'll torture you." "You think I don't know what they're capable of?" HOLY CRAP.
"
Gothchic452 11 months ago 19
@Gothchic452 Just one thing that I don't quite agree with you: I don't think she really hated Lily. When they were little they were so close, but then Lily went to Hogwarts and Petunia really resented her that, because she herself couldn't be a part of the whole wizarding world. But they obviously still kept at least a little in touch, but after Lily's death, Petunia starts to really hate all that is conected to wizards, because now they took Lily from her for good, they've killed her.
ilovehotchocolat 11 months ago 105
@ilovehotchocolat you are right, just the way she was seemed like she hated Lily. you know, "I hate magic!" and she just enever talked about her. And they are so, so, so, hmm...Different.
Gothchic452 10 months ago
@ilovehotchocolat SO AGREE WITH THAT!
Annabella56 10 months ago
@ilovehotchocolat brilliant!
Annabella56 10 months ago 3
@ilovehotchocolat you know ive never seen it from that point of view..but it stinks that she treated her nephew horrible...but concidering that james was a part of that world that stole her sister away..i guess harry reminds her that her beloved sister..well..is gone because of people like him...
cione08 9 months ago
@cione08 Yeah, it totally stinks how she treated Harry . ˝...because of people like him...˝ - that's ste main problem. She started to seperate people like this: either they are wizards ('bad') or muggles ('good'), when of course, there are also 'good' wizards.
ilovehotchocolat 9 months ago
@ilovehotchocolat
I totally agree.

@Gothchic452 also harry and dudley's scene
mickael9701 7 months ago
I believe this scene should have been in the movie. If they didn't show Dudley having a heart, they should have at least shown that Aunt Petunia had a secret heart for her sister.

why did they cut that scene???
its so nice to see a other side of petunia
not as a cruel aunt, but also as a caring sister

What a Cold scene..
alexmarauder 11 months ago
they couldn't afford to have her appear as one of the "good guys" in the movie. The scene was too sentimental and would remind us of the muggle's humanity which is contrary to the wizard's perception of muggles being ignorant.
Rawa7i 11 months ago
@Rawa7i yes, but the wizards who hold that particular view (the malfoys, voldemort, and such) are clearly in the wrong. i dont think it would have hurt to give petunia a heart
jewelrytearsx 11 months ago
@jewelrytearsx In that case I only have one bullet left. She was a bitch throughout the entire series, why change that now with such an emotional scene?
Rawa7i 11 months ago
omg i got ghoosebumps!! Why did they cut this out?? It is important!!!!

this should have stayed in the movie!!

WHY WHY WHY did they cut this out?
hannahbanana2005 11 months ago
oh my god.
JungKathi 11 months ago
Jammer dat deze scène weggelaten werd. Hier zien we een heel andere Pethunia dan in de vorige films en dan in de boeken.
KattyGeltmeyer 11 months ago
This is so brilliant, too bad they left it out... :(
EndlessObscure 11 months ago
They should have kept this in, honestly. It's short, and adds so much more depth to Petunia. Her acting was pretty great; It's nice to see other sides of her.
troyfin2 11 months ago 3
Why do they cut so many scenes? It makes me so annoyed.
Do they honestly think we'd complain if the movie was 4 hours long?? It's like they don't understand their own fans.
janipun 11 months ago 3
@janipun
I agree I would rather the movies be five hours long with every important detail from the book than one that is only two and a half hours long with only half the events :(
blueberry1004 11 months ago 93
@blueberry1004 Yeah, but you have to think... what about the money? what about the money you will have to pay for a 5 hours movie, think about the soul of a movie, a good movie is not a copy of the book, that would be absurd, if i want to watch the book again, i can read it

omg this just what I believe Petunia want to say to harry in the book. Petunia loved Lily, but her pride and jealousy prevented her from showing any love to Harry.

AH! My favorite scene of Petunia Dursley in ALL THE FILMS!
dashduke 11 months ago
er!! why did they remove this, should have been in the movie :(

blueberry1004 11 months ago
didn't she despise her sister because lily was going to hogwarts and she couldn't?
brokinwand92 11 months ago
@brokinwand92 she was jealous, but she didn't despise her
whitfieldk273 11 months ago
@brokinwand92
She was jealous that she couldn't go to Hogwarts with her.
Even if she did show "hate" to Lliy, they were still sisters. Petunia obviously still cared about her.
blueberry1004 11 months ago
@blueberry1004 true...

2 questions:
what did harry say 0:17 to 0:20
what did petunia say 0:23 to 0:26
???
halloBrigitta 11 months ago
@halloBrigitta
Harry: If they think for a moment that you know where I'm going they'll stop at nothing.
Petunia: Do you think that I do not know what they are capable of?
FotoShopped 11 months ago
@FotoShopped thx bro ;)
halloBrigitta 11 months ago
I think if they put this in they would have to start with the whole Dursely sequence and I think they wanted to open it more with drama. Still I think they could have fitted it in somewhere!!
calumpotterwilson 11 months ago
why they didnt put this in!!!
