Now this video I like, it comes from nowhere wich rules out a reflection, and the grain on the object seems to match that of the footage. Also when viewed in slow motion the object drops somthing that flies away before disapearing itself through the clouds. and yes it does seem to go through the clouds giving it the illusion of zooming off. Best short ufo clip I have ever seen! Great catch to whomever owns this video!
@gloverny718 No such thing in 1966. Zeppelins were abandoned around 1940, and not built again until the 1990s. They never had fins at both ends anyway, nor have any other aircraft. That would have made them uncontrollable.

The image wasn't noticed until the film came back from processing, as the operator saw the scene through the viewfinder from a slightly different angle. What you are seeing here is and air to air firing target attached to something called a Royston winch . Which itself is attached some 1000 plus feet away to a Canberra aircraft . What's happened is that after use the pilot of the Canberra has failed to reel in the target lovingly called a "pig" flown along the same flight path as the airliner then turned off when the line goes tight it makes the sudden turn. There are lots of documented UFO sightings generated this way by 100 Sqn RAF.

@danlefou That could be an optical illuision, but it is a funny one, that camera was moving all the time and the "object" was still there without any important change until it suddenly changes the shape and desapear. Light reflection would make the shape change back and forth every time the camera moved and that's not what I see in that video.
I still have more questions than answers about this. And I don't like that fact.
@6031042 The tailplane obviously couldn't move because it was fixed to the aircraft. It was camera movement in and out which made the image expand and contract, in length but hardly at all in depth. Reflection doesn't come into it: REFRACTION produced the distorted image. If you look up pictures of Handley Page Heralds, you will see the strakes on the tailplane, its relationship to the rearmost window, and the highlight around the window rim indicating inward curvature to fit into the aperture.
It's the tailplane tip of a Handley Page Herald, refracted into a mirror image by the inward curvature of the window pane at the edge. Filmed over Staffordshire in 1966 and duplicated by the BBC within days, it was never seriously considered to be a UFO. The same effect can still be seen in preserved Heralds in museums. The "craft moving all over" are bits of dust on the badly kept film, which was clean when first shown in 1966.

That's a view of a wing-pod, shortened and reflected on the inner (right) surface of a window port, in the '60s, polished aluminum was in vogue for aircraft design.
There's just enough blur to diguise the edge.
Notice the camera position moves back and pans left exactly as the "UFO" flies away, and the two fin-like objects on the pod seem to magically converge just before it disapears.
FYI: The infamous "rods" that have been caught on tape for years have been proven to be only insects. The video camera can't pick up the detail so it creates an artifact. I was totally bummed when I saw the high def/ high speed film a bug sitting next to a video camera. The video camera created a rod and you could plainly see the bug in the high def/high speed. I want to believe and find proof; however, nothing yet :( . I just thought I'd let you know. Keep hunting though!!
To me it looked like something (maybe a bug) sitting on the window then jumping off an vanishing in the fog. On the otherhand, the video is so poor quality that I would be too surprised to find out it was a bug sitting on TV screen.
Autochrome has been availible in the us since 1906 and Hollywood was using Technicolor in 1922.... the first coast to coast color tv broadcast was by NBC on Jan. 1, 1954.... in 1966, "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" won best picture and Elizabeth Taylor won best actress.
The BBC investigated this one many years ago; they sat in the same seat and filmed thru the same window and saw it every time. Turned out to be the tip of the planes tail fin seen thru the curved window pane.
I didn't obtain my info from the internet, I was actually there in the UK and watched it on TV in the 1960's. It was investigated by the BBC after a couple of photos appeared in a UFO mag, and quickly put to rest . I rememember it well. You could try asking the guy who posted it where he got the video.
Amazing. At first I thought someone cut out some black paper shaped it like that and stuck it on the window. But when it did the vanishing act, I would have to say this isn't faked or less its not really from 1966 and someone made it seem that way. Over all very amazing.
I dont know whether its real or not, but to me I've got to admit it does look fake, first off, you can get cameras that record like that, mainly if you buy an old one... second when the thing disappeard it just didnt look right, but thats just my opinion, i dont know whether its real or not

@Tavewa4 It was a Super8 movie film camera, a basic model with a fixed medium wide-angle lens. The film has got quite dirty in the intervening years, with hairs and lots of dust specks.

@Hanzy302 No, it is not an airship. There were only three airships in the world in 1966, all in North America. This was a refraction-distorted image of the airliner's tailplane.

Ok, let's say there was an intelligent form of life inside that thing. My question: What kind of living creature would survive to such an accelleration?
In my opinion, if that thing is real and there was something smart in it, that was a machine and not a living creature.

@danlefou That could be an optical illuision, but it is a funny one, that camera was moving all the time and the "object" was still there without any important change until it suddenly changes the shape and desapear. Light reflection would make the shape change back and forth every time the camera moved and that's not what I see in that video.
I still have more questions than answers about this. And I don't like that fact.

@6031042 The tailplane obviously couldn't move because it was fixed to the aircraft. It was camera movement in and out which made the image expand and contract, in length but hardly at all in depth. Reflection doesn't come into it: REFRACTION produced the distorted image. If you look up pictures of Handley Page Heralds, you will see the strakes on the tailplane, its relationship to the rearmost window, and the highlight around the window rim indicating inward curvature to fit into the aperture.

It's the tailplane tip of a Handley Page Herald, refracted into a mirror image by the inward curvature of the window pane at the edge. Filmed over Staffordshire in 1966 and duplicated by the BBC within days, it was never seriously considered to be a UFO. The same effect can still be seen in preserved Heralds in museums. Can't be a blimp - there were only 3 in the world in 1966, all in North America, with Goodyear in huge letters.

@danlefou ...The Americans duplicated a moon landing... did you belive that also. When the craft left..Refraction would have only occurred this way if the camera was moved in or or out when it dissapeared..it was not . What is note worthy is the amount of craft moving all over throughout the video....Ps...I am ex Aust Military SAM Regiment specializing in aircraft recognition.

@PFXKaiser The hand-held camera did move very slightly, which sufficed, as the BBC reconstruction showed. If you sit in the rear starboard seat of a Herald, you see the tip of the tailplane. Lean right forward and you can see it clearly, but from Joan Oldfield's position it is in the refraction zone. If that is a UFO, one has to ask what became of the tailplane, which should be visible? The "craft moving all over" are bits of dust on the badly kept film, which was clean when first shown in 1966.

@Birdboy281 Even if it had been a blimp. or any other kind of aircraft, the image would have behaved in exactly the same way, rapidly contracting down to nothing as the camera moved relative to the refraction zone of the window. The only thing that moved was the camera!

That's a view of a wing-pod, shortened and reflected on the inner (right) surface of a window port, in the '60s, polished aluminum was in vogue for aircraft design.
There's just enough blur to diguise the edge.
Notice the camera position moves back and pans left exactly as the "UFO" flies away, and the two fin-like objects on the pod seem to magically converge just before it disapears.

FYI: The infamous "rods" that have been caught on tape for years have been proven to be only insects. The video camera can't pick up the detail so it creates an artifact. I was totally bummed when I saw the high def/ high speed film a bug sitting next to a video camera. The video camera created a rod and you could plainly see the bug in the high def/high speed. I want to believe and find proof; however, nothing yet :( . I just thought I'd let you know. Keep hunting though!!

To me it looked like something (maybe a bug) sitting on the window then jumping off an vanishing in the fog. On the otherhand, the video is so poor quality that I would be too surprised to find out it was a bug sitting on TV screen.

Autochrome has been availible in the us since 1906 and Hollywood was using Technicolor in 1922.... the first coast to coast color tv broadcast was by NBC on Jan. 1, 1954.... in 1966, "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" won best picture and Elizabeth Taylor won best actress.

The BBC investigated this one many years ago; they sat in the same seat and filmed thru the same window and saw it every time. Turned out to be the tip of the planes tail fin seen thru the curved window pane.

I didn't obtain my info from the internet, I was actually there in the UK and watched it on TV in the 1960's. It was investigated by the BBC after a couple of photos appeared in a UFO mag, and quickly put to rest . I rememember it well. You could try asking the guy who posted it where he got the video.

Amazing. At first I thought someone cut out some black paper shaped it like that and stuck it on the window. But when it did the vanishing act, I would have to say this isn't faked or less its not really from 1966 and someone made it seem that way. Over all very amazing.

I dont know whether its real or not, but to me I've got to admit it does look fake, first off, you can get cameras that record like that, mainly if you buy an old one... second when the thing disappeard it just didnt look right, but thats just my opinion, i dont know whether its real or not
