  • dunlop ultex are the best picks

  • JAZZ III picks it the best picks ever!

  • who,s the convict?

  • For raw info skip to 3:17

  • v picks are the worst picks iv ever tried

  • Thats really usefull actually :O Ill practice that, really fun lesson :) thanks for that

  • nice guitars those chapmans

  • A Sutherland Saturday morning...kick ass Chappers. What happened to your ESP and Orange gear?

  • chappers has cut his hair offf nooooooooooooooooo

  • I'm a big fan of that tone around 4:10, reminds me of an Indian sounding tune. At any rate, "holing" simply means muting the strings on either side of the one you're playing with your fingers, right?

  • what are the picups on mablung's beautiful ML-1?

  • @TheKaappari On the Bridge is a Kent Armstrong OTT, and the Neck has a Kent Armstrong Vintage/Tweed Tone

    :)

    \m/

  • @mablungofficial Dude, get chappers to give you a chapman guitars sig! ;)

  • What did one V-pick say to the other V-pick?

    "Squeek, squeek, squeekity, squeek!"

  • why did you sanded the guitar?

  • MOAR MABLUNG GUITAR PLEEZ!

  • wylde beard rsrsrs

  • Hey Chappers!! What kind of camera do you use? xD

  • This is phenomenal! I wouldn't have even thought of trying to do that! Thanks for the tip!! :D

  • Im a noob and don't really get this, could you make an advanced tutorial pleeeeeeeease ? :D

  • This... is the EXACT tone I've been looking for for my live shows and in studio. OMG MAN

  • So your just muting one string?

  • I'm seeing the light.....Thank you Rob!!!! :)

  • Hate it when I see things like this, think "good idea" go to try it and find that I do it subconciously in the first place. These jams do look like fun and I much preferred this sort of thing when I was learning and starting out than a proper structured job.

  • This is something I've already been doing in my playing but never really thought about until now lol. Great tip

  • I have heard of "thumb muting" with the picking hand while playing lead. I find it akward, which means i need more practice. NICE video Rob Thanks!

  • Mablung has the best looking ML1.

  • chappers are you going straight into the effects and then straight into the dark terror ie no effects loop? as your reverb sounds very good

  • Part 2. Chappers teaches Mablung bout clean living and shaving

  • @scottwillott1 What is this 'shaving' of which you speak? :)

  • Just learned something...lol

  • I have the same phone

  • Wait, so you sort of palm mute the other strings?

  • Comment removed

  • Dude, where you stoned?

  • I feel kinda good now, I've been using this technique since I started. I just assumed everyone did it because it is so effective at muting unwanted noise. Pre-emptive win!

  • and a very very very simple trick that makes a world of difference

  • I whip my beard back and forth!

  • I have 1 V-Pick and have tried it several times. It's great for practicing a few scales here and there and it helps you cheat on speed exercises a bit, but I really do think it sounds kind of "scrapey" on the strings and just kills the tone. Maybe I'm just using it wrong, digging in too deep, or maybe because I use 10's and 11's, but I still prefer the good ol' Dunlop 1.0's.

Anyone else hate the sound of those things as much as I do? :-)

  • @Stratomacaster +1 on the Dunlop 1.0's

  • You should give carbon fibre jazz III's a go. You get that Paul Gilbert, tight, scratch chug and it doesn't get rough or wear out........... seriously tight pick.

  • This is such a simple technique...but in 8 years of guitar abuse I had never even considered anything like this?

  • Chappers dont ever cut your hair again D: Your hair was fucking awesome, let it grow up again.

  • Sorry if you mentioned this in another video but I can't find it. What pickups do you have in that guitar? Dimarzios, ya?

  • Do you not like V-picks?

  • wow Chappers seem to be a lot like Paul Gilbert when giving lessons.

like it feels like you're just two people hanging out and playing guitar instead of a teacher-student situation!

  • @ermonski I'm a very relaxed teacher - learning should be fun ;-)

  • @RobChappers If you don't mind me asking, What Bridge Humbucker Pickup is that in your ML-1 in this Video? A Dimarzio Tone Zone? Super Distortion maybe?

  • I love your tone! make a video on just that!!!

  • Chappers, when you say 'hole' are you referring to right hand muting?

  • @okamasphere Correct, I leave a hole for one string only ;-)

  • YES, the best ML1 in existence is BaCK!

  • Thanks for another "tasty tip" Rob. Btw, how much do you charge for these 3 hr consultations ?

  • @merseyguy1974 PM me for details ;-)

  • @RobChappers how are you doing the volume swell without touching the volume knob?

  • how do you do the long hammer on pull off licks without the sound dieing out and without ripping more gain out of space then a black hole? really everytime i try it my sound dies within 5 secs. also it looks quite simple in this video but i find this rather hard but it works though so that'll be practicing till 2 am xD

  • @lamborick It's a mix of good gear and correct technique ;-)

  • hey chappers make a donation for good players bad gear foundation :P

  • rob i was wondering have you ever played warmoth guitars? and if you have what do you think of them because i really wanted an ml-1 but since they don't make them any more i was planning of making a guitar from warmoth with ml-1 spec's

  • You can pick up your cube next time you're in the Guild of Ford! I've been incubating it, raising it as my own. It keeps ending up on the Metal setting though. I don't know how. Poor thing x

  • The whole lesson was awesome!

Revolutionising my playing everytime I have one of these lessons.

HAVE A LESSON!!!! THEY ARE WORTH IT!!!

    Do it!

I recon Sprong and Autumn could have a rather good jam together and I look forward to it dude! (either in person or via the internet) bring it on ArkAngel :)

  • @mablungofficial cheers Mablung, it was great to see you again mate ;-)

  • I'm so glad everyone has his/her own technique. ;)

  • Hey Chappers... When I get my ML-1 "Spring" done we will have to see about getting it and "Autumn" in the same place. XD

  • Regular, traditional, classique black Jazz IIIs FTW.

  • Its funny that something so simple and obvious as this isn't discovered or thought about even after many, many years of playing.. Thanks Rob I am enlightened once again. Cheers

  • I can't play clean guitar because I don't wash my fingers

  • Chappers, Where do you get your red bear picks from? I cant see any listed on the internet in british imperial credits :(

  • What strings are you using in this video?

  • This just helped my legato technique tremendously. I am now practicing, and even that sounds cleaner!!!!

  • @15viceandvirtues Glad to help out dude ;-)

  • that is the simplest, most effective technique I've seen in ages. How on earth have I never thought about this before?

  • @seehowirock Sometimes you just need someone to point something out I guess ;-)

  • 4:17 What did you do there O.O

  • so...much...sustain

  • I'm jealous I don't live in the UK.

  • Chappers is right about Red Bear picks I'm afraid. Although Coffee/caffeine is apparently bad for your playing in a number of ways believe it or not.

  • Never seen anyone demo the hole before. Cheers Chappers.

  • holy OMFG! i always wondered what that weird phaze noise was i had no idea it was the other strings

  • Hey rob do pick while playing fast or do you just depend legato playing

  • "the Chappers stack tower of power" ... enter "wake up" by RATM :-)

  • that is the cutest puppy ive ever seen.

  • Actually quite insightful, thank you Chappers!

  • Epic beard, epic ML-1s and Jazz-III is where its at.

  • Hey Chappers How much are your Lessons ?

  • @AwesomeLimitMods Email me for details, I don't teach regular lessons... I do three hour consultation sessions.

  • V picks are amazing what are you talking about?!?! haha

  • @PestVic Once you have tried a Red Bear pick, V Picks look/sound like something from Toys R Us...

  • @RobChappers :-O ill have to try them out then :) Thanks for the recommendation

  • @RobChappers Red Bear picks are great, but 20 bucks is a massive amount of money for something that gets lost so easily

  • @XxAdamantiumxX Guthrie has used one Red Bear pick for the last few months... just don't loose it because you get what you pay for ;-)

  • @RobChappers Red Bear picks ARE amazing but you'd have to sell your liver on the black market to buy 100 picks.

  • @rednut2000 But you only need one, they last for ages... I am still on my first one and I got in a month ago.

  • !!!V- PICKS!!!

  • Play wid dat beard o' win!

  • first
