I rarely comment on youtube. And I rarely give 5 stars as there is just so much rubbish on here! But, I cant help but say- That was a beautiful speach! What takes me 2hrs in a seminar to explain and demonstrate you just did in 4 and a half minuets. Amazing! I love the indonesian silat and its approach. You have the EXACT same approach as my sifu- The hell speech etc. AMAZING! 5 STARS!
as a guru of this art,the history of all southeast asian arts have the same influence, the sriprivit empire,a south indian art brought over during the conquest of most of S.E ASIA ,from siam to cambodia, vietnam to phillipines and java, mixed in with local arts and then were influenced by chinese styles-you can see this in similarites particularly between silat and kali-they are related to a indian art once called veram-which is said to be a mix of greco-persian and indian marital arts-
Guru DeBordes is one of the finest martial artist alive today .I would invite any one with an open mind to please come attend a seminar and take a taste of the cup of tea.I am sure you will want more.your's truly leaping tiger
Silat was invented by the Malay stock (race) from Malaysia and Indonesia. Remember Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat from Malacca and Taming Sari from Java? Now we have a Silat Mahaguru from Ghana. Silat is really going international.
Not true there are secrets passed on only by word of mouth about its origins, and it predates the arrival of Indian or Chinese immigrants or even Hindu and Buddhist influences in the region. Many forgotten legends resemble lord of the rings involving an ancient elven race that taught the arts to the "servants". For instance, not even many Malays realise that Adi Petra was a wizard or that Sang Persanta Nala was not really human. Thus the keris is unique to Malays
i think u are referring to "kebatinan" or the spiritual aspect of silat? Sang Persata Nala was not really human? thats the 1st time I encounter this kind of statement.. can u please, elaborate? i know persata nala was a javanese, but not really human? hmmm.. thats a new thing 2 me. n moreover, the "elven race" that taught their arts, i think its more towards kebatinan, plus nowadays as most pesilat embrace Islam, most of them said these "elven races" are Jinns. correct me if im wrong. :)
james, are u malay? how did u know about these? not the jinns, its 'bunian' they really exits. some of the pencak silat are more like shaman warrior, they can possessed great strengh and speed from a spirit
( like u heard about a ghost possessed in a person body unwillingly, try imagine when they are the one who summon and willingly to be possessed and all actions are on thier command )
I had the good fortune to train with Guru at a seminar back in the '80's. I saw him drop people like flies. He has a headbutt to the groin (from the ground)that really made an impression on me..He is awesome to watch !
silat is malay special weapon...

Yeah, but I think it was influenced by Chinese and Indian arts: baqua and kaliapriyat. Not to take anything away from it, however.

Yeah!! But in Indonesia and Malaysia they put their essence wich is what makes their silat very effective and aggressive!!! Nice

To be honest I like the moves, and I respect that he is not using combat folder, such as stick, knive, etc like any other silat video's.

wow... I do Silat Gayong (a malaysian system). In my opinion, most Indonesian styles used animal-like movements.
