Many people felt that "All things must pass" was the closest to a following Beatles album after Abbey Road there was at the time, hence the volume of sales....
Yes, he should have been in a long time ago. I think that he was the best of the bunch. If you never saw him live you missed something very special. The man had such command of what he was doing with the charisma and musicianship to go with it. I miss him. Thanks for the music, George.
@IABOY4444 It´s more about people celebrating the dead´s life, which is fine; but isn´t the main point for the LIVING to receive such honors for their work? I really don´t get it; in George´s case for instance, waiting so long; he´d been like 45 years in the business!...
RIP George. Hard to believe it's been 10 Years ! ... and yes George & Paul should of been inducted with John in '94. All 3 had EXCELLENT Solo Careers !!!! 1st Ballot IMO.
Petty said All Things Must Pass was the first #1 Album by a solo Beatle. But I swear McCartney`s self-titled solo debut, which I know went to #1 also, cause it was knocked off the top by Let It Be (the album, of course), was released first. Can anybody check the record on that please???
George Harrison was one of the most underrated musicians around. He was so overshadowed (unjustly) by the more colorful Lennon and McCartney you didn't realize he was there. He was a fantastic musician and songwriter. Greatly missed George, I hope you are getting to see "My Sweet Lord".
George wrote some great songs w/The Beatles : Something, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Here Comes the Sun, Taxman , I Me Mine, Think For Yourself, Savoy Truffle, I Wnt To Tell you . . . and many more. Plus he played great lead lines on guitar - Listen to his fills on Two of Us..
I love Tom Petty & Jeff (ELO) Lynne. Well-chosen dudes; they got to be pals w/ George. Paul in his ceremony ('99) was right to ask what about G? What about Ringo? George (RIP) died in '01 & then he gets inducted posthumously in '04 (like John in '88). Time flies. I guess they'll wait for Ringo to pass on b4 they induct him too. But at least the Beatles as a proper band was inducted in '94 while they were all alive. But Paul should've been there w/ G & R then. Regrets? Sure; God loves a fool.
George harrison muy merecido el premio, indudablemente. Al igual que Petty ,tambien. Pero cuando se hara justicia del R&R of Fame para Jeff Lynne & E.L.O.???
@RollingOrmond u cant exactly blame Ringo though for that. they just chose him. BT Ringo does have a few good songs that he wrote : Octopus's Garden, Photograph, and It Dont Come Easy. John can be redeemed because of how much he supported peace. Paul cant be blamed until we find out if hes dead or not.
@iamobeliskquake Ringo wrote Octopus's Garden when he quit during the Whtie Album and went on holiday. Whilst ship board he was fed octopus/squid for lunch. He was then told a story about how the octopus's would gather shiny material together and make something like a garden for themselves. Ringo thought it would be nice to be under the sea away from all the Beatle turmoil... in the shade. Yes, you are right George did help Ringo with the song.
All Glories to George Harrison ,Hari's son ,Hare Krishna, and Tom Petty! Tom Petty nails his induction by getting everyone to say "Hare Krishna!" just the way George would have wanted it! aww, Jeff Lynne is so adorable. :D truly one of the Beatles' biggest fans, what a dream-beyond-dreams it must've been to have worked so closely with them, especially George!
All great men, liked the short cutaway to Olivia and Dhani, so proud to love such an amazing human being. :D
@Stube437 I know, I had the same feeling when Tom Petty said this. I love George Harrison's music, both solo and with the Beatles. He is my favorite Beatle and always has been. There was an aura about George - the "dark horse" that was a bit of an underdog, perhaps undervalued and underappreciated as a Beatle and on his own. Yet George more than overcame any doubts, reserve any had about he and his music. He is a legend. Still, George WAS preachy on many occasions. It's just the truth.
@estyle40 Cause its not a game...theres no free lunch. the others worked hard in their solo careers to earn this distinction. ringo can't just free-ride on the beatles name. remember this is the solo category. there are amateur muscians on youtube who have a better solo catalog than starr. Ringo basically spent half his solo career drunk and the other half attending beatle events. For that reason when BBC came out with 100 greatest britons the only beatle excluded was ringo.
@MetrazolElectricity Nobody said it was a game: just like with Harrison, Ringo had to fight like Hell to get ANY of his tunes recognized. Especially up against the greatest songwritin pair of all time, still to this day. AND let`s not forget he almost always had some help from at least one Beatle bandmate on each album. Granted, his stuff is not as interestin as the others. But he`s still at it, he`s still got somethin to prove, even tho he doesn`t have to. I STILL say put him in.
@estyle40 Nope. Even though George was the quiet beatle he still managed to push some tunes besides, the bullshit test is what did you do after 1970? No excuses of a lennon-macca big shadow to hide under are there? Ringo did jackshit. Photograph... jeez, George helped him to write that. Look man,I think ringo was an indispensable CHARACTER (not musician) to the beatles legend,a very funny and cute moptop icon of the early 60s...but if you don't have any merit or talent, then you needn't apply
@MetrazolElectricity Still not convinced, huh? Lol. Some do believe if and when he gets in, it`ll largely be because of the work in The Beatles. It`s been said, in fact I think McCartney said it himself, that The Beatles were a hard act to follow. You figure ALL FOUR of them had to be insecure right away with the solo stuff. And Ringo had to have it the worst of the four. And you`re right: "Photograph" and a lot of his songs would never carry the weight of a Beatles tune. ANY Beatles tune.
@estyle40 Dude, forget the Beatles for a second. That's the thing.... Rock and Roll Hall of fame has a standard to maintain. Ok Here a simplified explanation for you, Lets say you have to pass the score of 100 to get in. Beatles get 269, they enter. Solo Paul gets 187 and Solo George gets 121...they enter. Yes, their solo scores are much less than 269 but all that matters is that they crossed 100(IMPORTANT INFERENCE). Now Solo Ringo comes with 54. He doesn't qualify.
@MetrazolElectricity Dude, forget the scoring for a second. I wanna know what all THE PEOPLE think of Ringo bein inducted. Your feelings have become obvious. He may not qualify now. Yet. But stick around........
@estyle40 Look, my friend, I want ringo to qualify. Come to my channel and you'll see how much I adore all the Beatles. But in these matters, one puts one's feelings aside. What I feel or what people feel makes no difference - it's about being objective. Look at the track record of the candidate. And then judge. In any case, I hope he qualifies but the past is a good indicator of the future and it seems unlikely that an angel's voice will suddenly burst through his vocal chords...
