  • "Get this fucking game"

  • best game for gamecube. nuff said.

  • @HollielillieYume

You've obviously never played The Wind Waker, Eternal Darkness, REmake, Resident Evil 4, Burn Out 2 or F-Zero GX.

  • I like the battle system better in Lost Ocean but That's just me. I didn't like the main boy in Origins though let down for me.

  • @FallenRaeLi21 I would have to agree; I feel that having your party share a deck in Origins made it hard to know when it was the best time to heal. As opposed to lost ocean which you could give a party member the majority of the healing cards.

  • Is it multiplayer? :)

  • @gelatines843 Unfortunatly, no.

  • i remember playing this years ago great game

  • @smurfkidharley Yeah, it really is.

  • This is a summary of gameplay and storyline, not review

  • @Angel783D How so? I discussed the story, gameplay, etc. and talked about my opinions on each topic.

  • I think both lost ocean and origins are great and while lost ocean definitely has better graphics and artistic style, I like origins battle system way better, cause for lost ocean its too busy and handle all those seperate decks is too much for me while in origins its just 3 playable characters sharing one deck for battle, that's why easier for me to manage

  • @VayuPurana I agree! It never felt like busy work in Origins, and the ATB system was a nice addition.

  • This and Symphonia.

  • This game was amazing, best rpg on my black lunch box

  • A couple things to touch up on your review. Lyude doesnt have wings cuz he is an imperial. In Alfard, babies' wings are taken from birth because the empire sees wings as a weakness and something "old and un-needed."

Also, for those who plan on getting the game, you can turn off the attack/def breakdown (the screen that popups after every attack) cuz it can get a bit annoying at times. But it is also useful becuz it acts as a pause screen since you cant pause during battle.

  • @KooKookid520 Some well stated facts about Lyude there. :) Though I have to disagree with you slightly concerning the breakdown screen. Of course it could be a bit annoying to have that thing popping up every time you made a move, specially during the easier fights. But I find the screen quite useful. It helps a lot with figuring out the weaknesses of enimies and it's good to see what results your combos have. Makes it easier to improve your tactics, and that is essencial during bossfighrs. :)

  • @ersia87 Oh yeah,I totally agree. I used the breakdown screen for the whole 1st disc and all boss battles since they tend to take a while and i might need to pause. After a while though, you can kinda tell what the weaknesses are by what kinda moves they use. Like Giacomo uses fire for reg attacks and dark for his specials. So i figured that i would use water and light type attacks

  • @ersia87 The breakdown screen is useful. If you're in an area and fighting the same kinds of monsters over and over again, you can adjust decks after the first battle. Sometimes it's just common sense, though. Flying monsters tend to be weak to chronos and stuff in the Lava Caves is weak against water. The only really wierd stuff is in Mira, which some of the monsters resist all elements. Plus, there's one boss that changes resistance in the middle of the fight <_<

  • There is also a way to completely turn off the voices, but I never used it. :)

  • This is one of my fav games of all time! Of course, though, I did't like the voices. I found 2 problems with them.

    1. terrible voce acting

    2. They saound like they come through a can or something.

    # 1 is still there, though you get used to it after a while and almost start to like it. xD # 2 however can be all fixed just by setting the sound settings on Surround sound instead av sterio, even though you don't have a surround system.

  • @ersia87 Yeah, it sounds kinda computerized.

  • @ersia87 Yeah, Folon has just about the only *good* voice in the game...

  • shouldn´t the final score be above 9.0?

  • So much better than origins! =D

  • late comment, but I love your review and I agree that the voice acting was terrible, but it's still my #1 game c: Also, the girl named Fii or h/e you spell it is Kalas' little sister, just so you know

  • @Chibilisous Cool thanks! I don't know if I just missed Kalas's relationship with her or whatever, but thanks for filling me in, lol. :)

  • @Chibilisous Fee is Kalas' little brother

  • @rascally5 ooh lol sorry XD

  • @Chibilisous haha no problem :P

  • this game is like no other that i've played... i didn't like it much the first time i played it. but my friend is almost done with disc one so i decided i'm gonna give it another try

  • wow the voices really dragged it down that much? =o

  • @AdamDuffield yeah, unless you've heard them first hand, you have no idea, they are terrible. but dont let that get to you, this game is amazing.

  • when i was checking things up last time the origins game was only playable in certain countries.. and it was the first that came out to like any country. which is very sad since im a really big baten kaitos fan and because if the origins strict countries i cant buy and play it on my game cube.

  • I miss this game. I had a flood and lost it but im gonna start looking for it

  • In response to the pronunciation argument, DrArchibaldo is wrong, and swordfish has it pretty much right. It's "bå-ten kī-tos". That's an "a" as in "father" and a long "i" like in "sigh". Why? Because it's the name of a star in the constellation Cetus, from an Arabic phrase meaning "belly of the whale". So it -does- have a correct pronunciation, even if it's never said in game. :P

Fun fact: almost every town and kingdom in BK is named after a star. :3

  • This game was really good, for it's time (cause it came out around 2003 or 2004)

I think that if they made a new one for 2010, and updating the characters, it would be awesome. :)

  • @TEMINIX it is at least 50 hours of gameplay. i left it on when i fell asleep cuz i was constantly playing it so idk how long it took me to beat it lol. but yeah theres a lot of side quests, some that r very long and some r very short. I LOVE THIS GAME!! i cant find orgins

  • love the games really wish they'd continue the saga and the doctors name is larikush

  • sorry to sound like an up-tight ass, but its pronounced "Bay"-"ten", not bat-en

  • @DrArchibaldo how do you know that? they never say it in the game.

  • @swordfish1390 well it is be baten. well... depends on accent :P

  • how long is this game & are their side-quests?

  • this isnt a review. its a virtual game instruction manual.

  • @AllOutOfGum isnt a review supposed to give you input on the game? what exactly did you want me to say?

  • @swordfish1390

i review is usually a summary about the quality

i like the vid and all its just, not a review

  • no-one from the empire in the game has wings, that includes lyude and savyna

  • @quazmonty savyna has wings

  • @tarkeke ok, i was about to type "no she doesn't" but then i quickly googled. yes she has wings.

  • @quazmonty it's only shown when you use her in battle anyway.

it's a bit of shame how the game really doesn't take to much focus in the wings of the heart..still a great plot though

  • @quazmonty Savyna has wings. Lyude (and presumably Mizuti) do not. However, Mizuti hovers and can fly and it'd be my best guess that Lyude has some sort of winglets (maybe like Giacomo and Ayme have).

  • which game is the first one or can i just play origins cause thats the only one i can find

  • @gearsfan165 it doesnt matter which one you play.

  • @gearsfan165 oh please don't play origins the first one has a far better battle system

  • @cookiebandit18 I just finished Eternal Wings and started a bit of Origins and I actually really like the Origins battle system. It's a lot faster than Eternal Wings and it was nice having to play a lot faster (Eternal Wings was easy to keep up with, except for Savyna at class level 6).

  • @sparklefulpaladin I know that this comment was directed to me, but I have to say that I agree with you about Origins: MUCH improved over the first one. Deck management didn't feel like busy work, voice actors were MUCH better, cooler battle system, etc. The first one is amazing, don't get me wrong, I just think that 2nd is better.

  • @swordfish1390 Eternal Wings will always hold a special place, being my first RPG and I love it, but I also really love Origins. They're very different (I haven't gotten into much of the voice acting in Origins yet, so I can't comment on that). Eternal Wings is good to learn with (it's slower), but Origins feels more like a battle, especially when a character skips his/her turn because they're down. They're both amazing and I hope they come out with a third one, too 0_0

  • @sparklefulpaladin Yeah, definitly, I would absolutly love a 3rd Baten Kaitos game. I wish there was a bigger for these games so that there might be a slight possibility, but I don't think that'll happen, unfortunatly. But, hey, who knows?

  • @swordfish1390 Storywise, they'd have a good place to set it if they decide to follow Mizuti around. If I remember correctly, at the end of Eternal Wings, she decides to go off on an adventure with some of the other young people...

  • @sparklefulpaladin Yeah, I think I remember something like that, too. But all in al, they are both great games.

  • @gearsfan165 get eternal wings first, it's just much better

  • Never going to be a game like it. I played my fair share of RPG's on PS2, but there isn't going to be anymore games like it.

  • Also worth mentioning, there are opposite elements, which means if on attack or defense round you use a light card and a dark card they will cancel each other our (partially... 30 light and 45 dark will result in 15 dark and so on). And if you defend from a dark attack with a light defense card it will reduce the elemental damage as well, while if you use any other element it will only cancel out Ph Dam.

    Anywho, great game indeed!

  • Great review, i bought this game on the back of your awesome review and i thank you for it, it's an amazing game, love the music. The battle system is incredible, thanks for such a great review
