Hey the video worked great; however, I changed from Verizon (didn't have SIM) to at&t (does have SIM) and although the phone is now unlocked and I can get on the internet, my old Verizon phone# is still showing on the home screen of my BB Storm 2 (9550) even though at&t SIM card now inserted. I am also getting an Invalid SIM Card Error message under the Advanced Options>SIM card menu. By the way, the at&t SIM card works fine in the at&t phone I took it out of.

You can use any SIM card to do the Unlock. You need a sim in the phone to get the MEP2 prompt. If your phone is already unlocked (look at what it says to the right of network in the SIM card menu), you wont get a prompt. If your "network" = "Disabled" the phone is unlocked.

Disabled = Unlocked

Active = Locked

Blocked = Not unlockable (all attempts have been used)

Disabled = Unlocked

Active = Locked (need unlock code)

Blocked = all attempts have been used and is now hardlocked to the carrier its branded to

If you dont get a MEP2 code prompt its either already unlocked (Disabled) or Blocked.

Yes. When you switch back to "Global" from "GSM" your service books should be in tach for Verizon.

Short answer: You need GSM Service books. This is a Very common question, so i will explain here.

A verizon device is a "blackberry world phone" and has CDMA as well as GSM Capabilities. The service books that come preloaded on Verizon blackberry phones are for CDMA networks (specifically verizon). So you unlock your phone, you need the GSM Service books for your provider as well as a data plan from them to connect to any "DATA" driven service.

The original sim card doesnt matter for any blackberry "EXCEPT" for Bell mobility of Canada. Any other providers phone you can use any sim card to complete the unlocking steps.

Blackberry Data is driven by Service books. You need the correct GSM Service books to connect your SIM Card to the Service provider network to Blackberry Servers. Data doesnt work by only unlocking, you also need to manually install the service books for your provider. We can provide this to you.

Glad it worked great. As far as the splash screen goes, It is "possible" to change the splash screen but i would recommend just learning to live with it. If you really want to read about it, what you need to change is your VSM file. That is as far as Ill take you.

You need to activate the phone? Type ##000000 in the dialer and set the phone number in the first line. Press Menu key and Save. The phone will reboot and the "activation required' Message will go away up on reboot!
