  • Whats UV stabilizer made from? I'm working on making organic soaps, but I'm guessing this might not be useable in organic snaps.

  • @TheSereneSparkle Our UV inhibitor is Benzophenone-3, which is a chemical that is often used in sunscreens (but UV inhibitor is not a sunscreen on its own). So it isn't natural, but it is commonly used.

  • I did use fragrance. It even discolored the thin layer without fragrance though.

  • @trexteena Did you use Vanilla Color Stabilizer?

  • Does the vanilla color stabilizer work in lotions?

  • @sweeteababy0427 We haven't found the Bramble Berry VCS to be very effective in Lotions - but that doesn't mean there isn't one out there! Also be sure to keep an eye on our Bramble Berry site - we are in the midst of testing new Vanilla Color Stabilizer so maybe we will have one soon!

  • I Love Anne-Marie!

  • I bought some vanilla stabilizer from Bramble Berry, and it works great at keeping my M&P soaps from turning brown, but all the clear soaps get very cloudy and are no longer transparent. Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong?

  • Some fragrances do cause the soap to go cloudy. When I have clear soap in my design I usually don't add any fragrance to that part and put all of my fragrance in the colored part - to keep the clear soap as clear as possible.

    Hope this helps!

  • Thanks, it helps some. It isn't the fragrance oils though, I've tested with and without. It is the stabilizer that clouds the soap.

  • @trexteena Vanilla Color Stabilizer is considered a fragrance - so that's what I was referring to. Sorry for the confusion. :)

  • Thanks, I get what you are saying now. :)

  • @soapqueentv

Thanks, I get what you are saying now.

  • @trexteena Why would you use a stabilizer if you're not using fragrance? The whole point of the vanilla stabilizer is to counter the fragrance that you add; so yeah.

  • @Jennifer2k89

I did use fragrance. Where did it say that I didn't? Anyway. I made a thin layer without fragrance but the next layer with fragrance discolored and the discoloration, not the soap dye, bled into the layer with no fragrance.

  • @trexteena I have had that happen as well, but not when I us VCS. Did you use Vanilla Color Stabilizer and the discoloration still bled? Regardless, that's frustrating! Hang in there.

  • Will the Vanilla Color Stabilizer also prevent other fragrance oils from turning brown? I've noticed there are a few at Bramble Berry that have this warning. Would be great to know. Love your videos!!!!

  • Hi Soapjen.

VCS will prevent discoloring due to Vanillin. And Vanillin is pretty much in every fragrance that smells sweet - this is why most fragrances that we have at BB discolor. But it won't help discoloration due to yellow oils (like many citrus oils).

    Hope this helps!

So glad you're enjoying the videos :)

  • Thank you so much! That answered my question perfectly. I love the videos. I've only been soaping for a few months so I still feel like I have so much to learn!

  • You read my mind! I really want to do a CP series, too. I made an hour long DVD on cold process soapmaking a couple of years ago that is for sale over at Bramble Berry.

But we are also thinking of a way to do a more interactive series videos. My biggest concern is emphasizing the safety precautions - so we are figuring out a way to make sure that doesn't get missed.

    We'll keep you updated!

    Thanks!

    Anne-Marie

  • Sure would love to see some C.P. soap video's! =/

  • so what CAN we do about this? Hahahaha
