  • In my oponion Nolan wrote one of the ebst screenplays ever and I cant understand why the fucking Academy didnt get him Oscar....://// dont worry Chris you was the best and everyone know it...

  • The Big Joke of 2011.

  • King's Speech was the most brilliantly clever, witty, intelligent, heartfelt, emotional, true film I have ever seen. And it was all down to the script. A very well deserved award.

  • I'm really sorry for Chris Nolan 'cause he totally deserved it. King's Speech was really good but I mean, Nolan wrote on Inception for 10 years and the storyline is so original and thrilling and ingenious.. please Academy will you recognise this man for the Dark Knight?! If you don't, you have lost your mind and don't know, what good filmmaking is!

  • box office for dark knight: $1 billion

box office for inception: $900 million

the look on Nolan's face when he loses....priceless

  • and how did inception not win?

  • nolan really deserved this

  • well nolan they always say the third time is the lucky one

  • The King's Speech script was better than Inception.

  • @jwelch5742 They completely different films. To even compare them is ridiculous.

  • And just think, Woody Allen might have a chance to brake his record if he wins for Midnight in Paris.

  • It was a beautiful film. It deserved everything!

  • I use to have a stammer and this speech nearly had me in tears. I was so happy he won (even though I loved Inception)

  • An incredible screenplay

  • VERY WELL DESERVED! I LOVE THE KING'S SPEECH!

  • it took 10 years for chris nolan to make inception so i think that clearly inception should of won

  • @ThePandaOfDooom totally irrelevant reason.

  • @ThePandaOfDooom

It's not about the time spent on the work, but the quality. Avatar failed to win for the same reason; instead, the hurt-locker took the academy award on a significantly lower budget for the message that it sent us about the trauma of war, rather than a 3D version of pocahontas. The point that you've missed is that the Kings Speech went beyond the bounds of any blockbuster, as it rose awareness about a condition that has been so grossly overlooked. The world is better for it

  • @ThePandaOfDooom That is the most retarded logic I have ever heard. Were you being sarcastic?

  • Thank you David for beating Nolan :)

  • 13 people had a power outage as they watched this.

  • I can't believe that horrible movie Inception was even nominated for best original screenplay. The King's Speech looked bad for being mentioned alongside that overrated crapfest of a movie.

  • Mike Leigh's not impressed.

  • Thanks David! for representing all of us stutterers! WE WERE HEARD!

  • Haha! David Seidler deserves this.

  • Christopher Nolan was not robbed David Seidler deserved his award. I do agree Inception was really good, but it didn't deserve to win. The reason why Inception didn't win was because the dialogue in the movie was mostly exposition not real dialogue and the script doesn't allow for any of the side characters to really develop at all. A movie needs interesting characters to become great not just special effects and a complicated story.

  • Whats better?...winning an oscar for best screenplay or having two films you wrote become the highest grossing films in 2 different years?????

Don't worry Christopher Nolan more people saw Inception than The Kings Speech.

  • MIke Leigh was so shocked The King's Speech won that he was frozen in shock.

  • Nolan shouldn't go to the Oscars anymore , he deserves more respect

  • "We have a voice. We have been heard."

ALWAYS get chills and start tearing up at that part.

  • Great!

  • This guy should be put in a movie and given the chance to just be himself on camera. He'd probably win an Oscar for it.

  • If he ever gives up writing, he could make a living as a narrator of audio books and documentaries.

  • He has a great voice!

  • I'm only 13... but winning an Oscar for best screenplay is my dream... I watch these acceptance speeches all the time and I won't forget how bad I want this :)

  • I don't think screenplays based on real-life people and events are very "original" unless completely fictionalized, so with the exception of The Fighter, any of the other 3 nominees here were much better choices. I think The fact that Seidler himself overcame stuttering sentimentalized him to the academy

  • @achaserofrocks You're missing the point.

Truth can be better than fiction. Seidler retold the very compelling, very human story of a man who became king and worked to overcome a debilitating disability. That is far more compelling and reaching than any flashy, special effects filled flick.

  • @SunnasChariot achaserofrocks is saying that it's almost to the point of changing to the adapted screenplay category, seeing as he already had a story his writing would be based on. And why the hell are you comparing The King's Speech screenplay to the special effects in Nolan's film? Apples and oranges. Nolan wrote a very compelling screenplay. If you feel like attacking something, start at that. Attacking a film because of its budget or special effects is really getting trite.

  • 0:50 David Fincher doesn't even clap lol

  • Christopher Nolan should have won.......he has worked 10 years at the script

  • @ChristianBaleBatman Seidler worked on the screenplay for like 30 years if that matters. Otherwise, I also think that Nolan was probably better but I'm not that sure.

  • I still tear up at the last part. Sure, The King's Speech wasn't the flashiest or most exciting of movies, but it was a heartbreakingly true one that depicts the realities of millions of stutterers in the world, including myself. We struggle silently and courageously, carrying on through the days as best we can, facing rejection, humiliation, snide remarks, uncomfortable stares... and pity, the worst of all. Thank you David Seidler for acknowledging our lives when we have felt so invisible.

  • @shipsthatburn Sing it, stuttering sister. <3

  • @shipsthatburn w-w-wwell s-ssaiddd.

  • Even though i thought Inception had an amazing screenplay, Seidler deserved it more :D

  • DESERVED IT!!! :D I support you Mr.Seidler and every member of Team King's Speech!!!

  • To all of the people that think Inception should have won this award don't know much about writing. I would like you to rewatch Inception have learning what the word "exposition" means. Most of the dialogue in Inception is exposition.

I loved Inception too, but don't let your love for the movie blind you from obvious things.

  • @AGentertainment Inception had the most original story ever you fucking asshole!!!

  • @1Minute60Seconds Just cause its the most original, doesn't mean its the best. Besides Inception is the most original story ever.

  • @lightingcobra I mean isnt

  • @lightingcobra I mean isn't

  • @AGentertainment While that's true, exposition in Inception's case is not a bad thing, in fact it's what makes the movie work. Nolan needed to explain the rules of a fairly complex world of dream technology while developing the history of Cobb and Mal's relationship. The fact that it works so well in such a tight package in 2.5 hours is what makes the screenplay so impressive. But this snub is nothing compared to EDITING where it wasn't even nominated, and Directing as well.

  • @rh1252 I agree to a degree.

It earned its Oscar nomination as is, but I think the exposition held it back from winning.

Also, I agree with the snubs. THAT doesn't make sense.

  • @moviegeek1111 the best original screenplay is not an award for originality but as the title says the best original screenplay. the kings speech deserved its accolade.

  • Brief But Beautiful

  • Nolan deserved to win!

  • Shame that Nolan didnt win. I mean who could think of an epic movie like that? It's what i call "original"

  • What a well deserved win. That movie brought tears to my eyes. The speech and setting was so emotional and inspirational.

  • what eloquent and dry wit, truly deserved.

  • LOOK AT POOR NOLAN :(

  • LOOK AT POOR NOLAN :(

  • LOOK AT POOR NOLAN :(

  • he is the oldest person I've ever see win this catagory because usaully young kids on their first or second script win this

  • Chris Nolan should of won best director of this generation

  • The King's Speech is a period piece, it's so unoriginal. But whatever, I won't trust a bunch of old people who gave an oscar to Tom Hooper or Paul Haggis, when a master like Kubrick never won.

Another ridiculous choice by the academy: Shakespeare in love, instead of Saving Private Ryan.

  • @butt01 So your saying that a period piece, based on the TRUE story of a reluctant king struggling to overcome a crippling stammer to help his nation survive a devastating war, isn't worthy of receiving of such a prestigious award?

Who are YOU to say it's 'unoriginal'? How many films are there about King George VI and how many are there that gives a realistic portrayal of people suffering with a speech impediment like stammering? Very few and this film brought world-wide attention to it.

  • stop bashing kings speech. its more likely to be a classic than inception, the kings speech is based on a true story!

  • Next year everybody will forget about King's Speech. Inception will last forever. No matter what the academy says.

  • @butt01 Inception was lackluster and hardly worth the nominations it recieved. They spent all that time on special effects and loud noises and forgot about good story and relatable characters.

  • @butt01 Inception made no sense whatsoever. Everyone I know who saw it said it was hard to follow. The King's Speech is a masterpiece. It deserved every Oscar it received.

  • @butt01 Doubtful. The King's Speech told an inspiring true story of a man who, under intense pressure from his advisers and loving support from his wife, struggled to find his voice in a time of great turmoil and trouble for his country. Films like this are the ones that get remembered.

  • Yes! the best acceptance speech!!! Merci!!!

  • nolan was pissed - who wasn't?

  • @majafaja999 Uh, I wasn't. And neither were millions of other people.

  • ahhh, put black specs on him and he reminds me of the old guy in the movie UP

  • Telling him to wrap up! I would rather listen to 5 minute acceptance speeches by the people who put hard work into the movies we are celebrating than the 100 stupid filler sketches they have. Sorry to break it to you Oscar producers but you would probably get more viewers with longer acceptance speeches than filling it with annoying sketches. Maybe put one at the beginning to start the show and catch people's attention but that is all it would seem people would want, if even that.

  • best speech on oscars 2011

  • Chris Nolan should have won

  • @West49Dude13 Nolan is young and will have many more chances ahead of him. He's a talented writer, no question.

With the dominant and aggressive youth culture of Hollywood, how many chances does a man like David Seidler, a man in his 70's, going to get in his remaining lifetime?

  • i dont't believe that inception don't won that shit

  • his speech and the film make me feel strong, like i will overcome the darkest and scariest times of my stuttering, and that ill be okay

  • I don't know if I liked this movie as much as everybody else did. That being said, it was still a great movie. Good work Mr. Seidler, Mr. Hooper. Hope you guys team up again for another movie.

  • Look at Christopher Nolan reaction at 0:41...Haha!

    Take that Nolan!

  • we have a voice.. we have been heard.. lots of thanks to Mr. Seidler from ISTANBUL

  • we have a voice.. and we have been heard...

LOTS OF THANKS TO MR SEIDLER FROM ISTANBUL

  • should've gone to kids are all right.

sure, the king's speech had good jokes, but they were jokes that wouldn't have sounded as funny without a british accent.

  • @PianoMan1191 The King's Speech had "good jokes?" If we're going to use that kind of thought-provoking analysis, I should respond that The Kids are All Right had some interesting lesbian characters.

  • @PianoMan1191 That's what I'm talking about!!!

  • Should've gone to Nolan

  • Nolan should have won :P

  • Love this speech, but I wish this video was available to watch on my phone.

  • i can't stop watching this!!

i just think he's soooo CUTE!! ok, he's 73, i know, but David Seidler just "stole my heart" on oscar night!! =)

  • What is "Inception", if not ORIGINAL?! This moment defies logic.

  • Comment removed

  • @tal01 Inception was the most original movie of the year, but that's not the same as Best Original Screenplay. They decided this by which had the better script and was based upon an original idea, not which was a more original story. Think of it more as Best Original Script, not Best Original Story.

I thought Inception was a great film, but the screenplay for King's Speech was tremendous for a number of reasons and it did deserve this award.

  • Colan's conecpt was interesting and refreshing but the screenplay (particularly the dialogue) wasn't outstanding and pretty stale in fact.

  • I can't even be mad at the fact that Nolan didn't win; that speech was just amazing and so is Seidler!

  • i'm happy for this guy but damn I feel bad for nolan, he is such an amazing writer and director, one day nolan ,one day

  • just to explain one time and last!!!!

Original Screenplay doesn't mean "invented story" but "not based on previous works, like comics, books, other movies..." a screenplay based on real fact IS ORIGINAL!!!!

So The King's Speech has an original, amazing screenplay, and David Seidler well deserved this OSCAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for his genoìius writing and for the long thim he has struggled, never giving up and dreming his work could have a future as movie!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't think Inception deserved the Oscar (open for healthy debate!) I agree the script is original, an innovative, brilliant idea about something rarely seen before... it is a truly original script, however, it was not the best original script... Inception would have achieved more by developing character, conflict, theme and all those layers that make a GREAT SCRIPT (The Godfather, Orange Clockwork, Eternal Sunshine, etc). The plot is brilliantly developed, the characters not.

  • i really though nolan had it this time but it seems waiting 25 years for the king's speech script to be aproff by the queen is more original than for a script that took writing for 10 years. oh did i tell the king speech IS NOT EVEN FREKING ORIGINAL WTF OSCARS ! THIS 3 TIMES SNUBS FOR NOLAN !!1

  • seidler is 73 years old, nolan is only 40 he'll get his due of a better film

  • The King's Speech was deserving of an award but I don't see why it wasn't an adapted screenplay. Even so, Inception in my opinion was more deserving of this award. Christopher Nolan's writing work is fantastic and must be recognised by the academy!!

  • and btw... THE MELISSA LEO F-WORD... priceless

  • this man is such a gentleman and his speech was amazing. A very well deserved oscar

  • He's so sweet.

  • Comment removed

  • The best acceptance speech of the night.

  • @mrdammvan oh yes you could say that!!!

but also King Colin Firth's Speech was great!!

  • Inception- what does Chris Nolan have to do to get an Oscar!!

  • @OceanwhisperersMusic well it seems he has to do another original filn non comic book non sci fi non fantaxy non based on dreams or forgetting everything oh and it has to be boring not a blockbuster hit and based on real life events... FUCK YOU OSCARS !

  • @OceanwhisperersMusic He has to make the dark knight rises the greatest end to a trilogy ever

  • Again, Christopher Nolan ROBBED. Third time i believe? (Memento, Dark Knight, Inception)

Haha although the guy was humble and did i good speech, but did not deserve it.

  • I would've really liked to see Inception win for best original screenplay...but David Seidler's speech was so sweet that I can only feel happy for him :)

  • Christopher Nolan was robbed.

  • FUCK!!! Chris Nolan should win!!!!!!

  • IT's not an original screenplay cuz it's based on a real story.

    Inception was snubbed.

  • @wendilili couldn't agree with you more...

  • @wendilili It's not based on previously published material. That's the difference between original and adapted screenplay. So it is an original screenplay by their rules. Sorry.

  • @wendilili I agree.

  • @wendilili I agree. Inception was robbed yet again.
