That's actually slightly different from a sinker. Although a two seam and sinker are considered almost the same, if you really want it to drop you use the natural pronation on the top of the ball rather than turning your wrist. This makes it sink more than go to the batter.
Also, over pronating is dangerous especially to the young kids these videos are aimed towards. Deliberately pronating reduces velocity as well as reducing control. You'll find in the long term that velocity on a regular four seam will be reduced by the over use of a hyper pronated sinker.
The key to a sinker isn't the grip? It's the pre-set angle you create with your arm? Wrong. The key is the grip, and that allows the natural pronation of the throwing motion to rotate the ball which is pre-set by the grip. What big league pitcher throws a four seam sinker? You're teaching more of a screwball than a sinker.
I dont think Tim Lincecum is a fad! Two cy youngs and a world series title in three full seasons... also lead the NL in strikeouts as well in that same time span..
The best sinker i have ever seen is from Chien Ming Wang, he throws a nasty sinker at 91-96mph. Webb is a close 2nd. Halladay is a good two, but he can also mix it up more using cutters and 2 seams.
@SimpleStuff31 Yes, I'm a major league advance scout for the Marlins. I watch the team the Marlins are playing the series before they play them. I saw Maddux pitch in person a couple of times a season over the course of his career. Maddux was very crafty, but I wouldn't say any of his pitches were better they anything else somebody else was throwing. In the early 70's I went to work for the Dodgers and saw Randy Jones pitch several times. I will never forget the sinker he threw.
I love my sinker but i hold it and release it a different way than you, i get a lot of break on it and is in the speed range of my fastball. Should i start throwing it your way?
@lespaulkidd99 you can try it. but if you cant control it go back to your way. everybody has different grips and angles and wrist action. everyone isnt gonna be the same
Great Video.. i Hope this pitch will work for me and shall be put in my aresenal of pitches.

do you have to be able to throw the ball upwards of 80 mph in order to throw an effective sinker?
USUCK9494 8 months ago
@USUCK9494 No sometimes the slower you throw the more it breaks.

@AndrewL31413 youre crazy! best sinker ever? greg maddux! webb does have a good one tho.

@SimpleStuff31 Best sinker EVER? Randy Jones, 1975-76, before arm injury in 1977. Maddux was a better pitcher than Jones over a career.
