“When I hear new music coming into my head, its mission is integrated into its notes. It basically tells me how it wants to be.” – John McLaughlin. From Page 1 of the book “Follow Your Heart – John McLaughlin song by song.”
live doesn't get any better than this. They're all amazing but black superman Ralphe Armstrong is manhandling the crap out of his bass, he owns that bitch.
Guitarist Carl Orr: "I thoroughly enjoyed reading “Follow Your Heart - John McLaughlin song by song.” The descriptions of the music are great, and I particularly enjoy those inspired moments when the author abandons literal description and describes the music in vivid, sometimes surreal imagery."
her voice is shrill and strident,imo-this line-up is nowhere near the original's capacity(although i find jan hammer's playing rather grating at times).cobham, john and goodman simply kick arse.i've seen the original orch twice, and the first santana/mclaughlin tour,as well as seeing ponty twice with zappa-i will take goodman anyday-more feel,imo-maybe not as technically proficient, but blazing riffs that countered mahavishnu perfectly.
Saw (most of?? ) this lineup perform open air in Holland around '74. Don't know where. Git 1 minute soundless movie though:) Great band.. really wonderful.
listen to Michael Tsarion on the youtube. He is the worlds premier conspiracy researcher/lecturer/author. Leo Zagami and Dr. Bill Deagle are highly informative as well.
Because everyone wanted to be a damn composer. To be honest JM compositions were the best and Jan Hammer wrote some good stuff. But everyone felt like the band should play thier sucky assed original tunes and John wasn't having it! There's a few tunes on the Last Trident Sessions CD if you want to her some of the shit Cobham wrote. John was right! It just didn't work! But as you can expect people got pissed because John wouldn't play their stupid shit!

I was front row right in front of JM and Jean Luc at a concert from this tour in Canada...
I got a nice handshake from John and Jean-luc at the end of the show.
Amazing...turned me into a Jean-luc fan,but unfortunately I have never seen him in concert.

Jean-Luc Ponty is so sick. I just bought 4 of his albums on vinyl at half price for a bucks a piece! Best buy I've made in a while

I love the shot at 5:05, McLaughlin moves the mic stand over, like "How did THAT get over there?!"

Great band. I wonder why the original line up changed so much from 1972 to 1974. I really loved the first 2 albums and their line ups.

Too bad, but it looks like this lineup was a great one too.

Mc Laughlin and Hammer fell out, apparently John was not interested in sharing writing duties, or something like that.

what an exquisitely pure voice, she looks like Snow White. Some ridiculous maxout battling trade-offs between John and Jean-Luc at the end...wow!

In My opinion, Mclaughlin was at his peak of creativity during this period. This music is truly special.
