But the media fails to show all the good that has come from Regent Park. Musicans, artists, nurses, actors... Some say we "rep" to hard. Why are they're so many haters of Regent?... I'm 26 years old, and have lived in Regent Park since 1985. I couldn't imagine growing up any place else. I've expeirenced alot of things negative and positive. I can tell you about some real horror stories, but there is more to Regent than the bad things. Like all the wonderful life long friends I've had since childhood. All the fun times we had, like sunday in the park and Block-o-rama, going to Park Public School, eating at the "root & burger"...

My family lived in Regent when it was first built and throughout the better part of the seventies. It was agreat tight community. It was only scary if u had something to fear. and mixeddmami416 is right. it is home to so many wether they wereonly there for a year or there for life. It was what you made it. Its so sad to see an era ending. Many greats came out of regent. The only ones who call it a bad place didnt live there. Only outsiders looking in.

Hello portris - I was born in Cabbagetown, and lived in Regent Park from 1958 to 1968. We never stabbed or shot people, or sold drugs, despite being very poor. We never moaned about the poverty, we just kept working. Todays problems down there is the gun culture brought to Canada from Jamacia.

When moderate immigration came fro Euorope Toronto was a great place. The massive numbers we are getting from the third world today has destroyed that city.

Hi portris (again) - I understand your anger. The truth can be painful, I understand that. When I lived in Regent Park the people in Rosedale looked down on us. It was not our fault we were born into poverty.

My only advice to you is "to get out of Regent Park", "Get a job", and eventually you will become "normal". LOL That is what I did to get out of Regent Park. Good luck to you, and don't let your present situation turn you into an angry person.
