I've tried ECTs, 16 of them. I hit rock bottom. I felt suicidal. I literally been to hell and back. It may help some people but I don't think it's worth the risk. I think it should be banned. It does more harm than good.
@koochy79 I did depend on it because nothing else worked and it still screwed me up. I am glad that it saved your life but is it good for you in the long run?
A South Carolina woman who received electroconvulsive therapy (ECT, shock treatment) won a jury verdict of $635,177 for extensive permanent amnesia and cognitive disability.
Peggy S. Salters, 60, sued Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia, as well as the three doctors responsible for her care. As the result of ECT, she lost all memories of the past 30 years of her life. She was unable to work after ECT.
A family member of mine had ECT many years ago. I remember her saying something about having to only take her shoes off. I later saw a documentry which showed a woman recieving ECT treatment, and this lady was dressed more like she was going to the office than a hospital and all she did was take her shoes off before the treatment. Out of curiosity is this the way it works?
Electro shock can be a very good tool. A friend of mines mother had it after she sunk into a depression so deep nothing worked. The depression came to be after her daughter was shot in the head by an ex boyfriend and her daughter died. She still remembers her daughter fondly but the pain of the incident just isn't there anymore and now she is back to her old self.
@bionickitties so she had no chance to process REAL PAIN and REAL EMOTION and deal with it. What do you mean by "nothing"? This is hard situation... and one should be allowed to mourn it for a while. One has to go through it.
@Hornilope i was reacting to a comment of somebody who said how it helped his friend... who was depresed after loss of somebody. (bionickitties comment... obviously, I don't know the whole story, but the way she tells it sounds horrible).
Very beautiful style and touching film- think you handled the subject matter very well and used the medium of animation skillfully to tackle a very difficult topic. (I love to see animation used to handle heavier subject matter and for more documentary oriented films) Loved the part with the actual electric treatment- very cool way to utilize flash in a non-traditional manner! (found via cold hard flash)
Such a beautiful video :3

@Hornilope I lost loved ones. I know how it feels. Hurts after years. But frying your brain is not solution....
medicalizing grief is crime against humanity.

Actually the actual electric treatment animation is simply water and paint under the camera - this is really my favorite part of this piece.
