  • Somewhere along the way people lost sight of making music like this to touch the soul and only wanted the money. I know that is what people want more than anything but it still makes me sad inside knowing what we could have become without that material stuff.

  • 2006.. this was probably the first video on youtube!

  • Mesmerizing! I cannot have enough of that.

  • always wanted to know what song was in the museum scene of Ferris Bueller, i've got the Smith's version, now i got this version

  • I would love to hear Enya do this!!

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!

  • Oh my God - love this song !!!

  • .. i always watch this vid, and hope that Heaven is just like this. Kate St. John, and her beautiful oboe.

  • Such a beautiful song, I had no idea in all these years that "The Dream Academy" produced this song as I always associated them with "Life In a Northern Town". This song put me in a better mood, took me back to a time when the world seemed less complicated and more hopeful.

  • @cjd2112 absolutely and thrown mia sara into the mix isn't bad either

  • Save Ferris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW this is SOOOOO much better without any vocals/lyrics.

  • @christenstjohn This is so much better when the Smiths are singing and playing it.

  • Can anyone please post the song "The Edge of Forever" by Dream Academy? I just heard it last night while watching Ferris Bueller's Day Off. What a great song.

  • @Boudosaved yeah thats a great song but have noticed to it aint on here either.

  • simon cowell listen this is music not subo crap.

  • Un brano davvero bellissimo, intenso e profondo. Molto emozionante.

  • wow this is an amazing version! Nick is beautiful!

  • what is the name of this song??

  • If you like this try to find " Indian Summer" by Dream Academy its one of ther best.

  • Did Dream Academy also compose "Power to Believe" from the movie "Planes, Trains and Automobiles"?

  • @4stemcellresearch They didn't compose "Please Please Let Me Get what I Want"

It's a song by the Smiths, written by Johnny Marr and Morrissey.

  • @niceanddestroyed -

this song is so perfect and almost innocent that it would have to be created by Moz and Marr. 2 people that will have nothing to do with each other creating celestial perfection. EVERYTHING works with this song-it is perfect.

  • The Dream Academy made totally there own song, because is very different from Morrissey version.

  • this was just ok at first, but then they added an oboe=totally random and cool. great take on the smiths

  • Instrumenatal version can be found on cd called Boutique Chill by Hi-Bias records.

  • Hey where's there butt shaking scantily clad women and the pc or mac to help make their music?? How can you make music and/or a video without those things?

  • i have this bookmarked in my favorites i love this version so much... better than the smiths one

  • I wonder if Kate got dizzy during the shooting of this video?

  • Even my 20 yr old son know this: The music of the 80's was and still is the best!

  • I agree too to graveland. These days today its full of pseudo stars. Too much lauzy casting shows. The music in the 80's was handmade. Soul and heart made.

This bumm bumm sounds today giving to feedback. Even the classical stuff, which survived hundred of years, is much better than techno.

  • I'm sure I said it once and will again-the 1980's might be mocked nowadays-BUT the music during that time was better than anything I've ever heard since.

  • I agree. Funny how people will mock it and laugh at it when the artists songs of today usually rely on some beat used by a song in the 80's. Mainly in R&B

  • you are so right...

  • @gravelandgrain100 you are so right! The music these days are crap. They remade the "We are the world" and added the most untalented musicians in the last segment....total b.s.!!!!!

  • @gravelandgrain100 Absolutely agree 10/10

  • amazing.

  • does anyone know what cd this is on?

  • Hard to get. Only released on DA's Japanese CD of greatest hits, and on a US CD called "Sedated in The Eighties Vol 4"(I think it was). The instrumental was on an available CD called "Boutique Chill Out".

  • Great tune, great cover. Love it.

  • No. They broke up in 1991 to persue solo careers!!! Sad Sad Sad!!!

  • Too sad, they look extremely beautiful, both musical and visual effects are amazing.

  • are they still around or did the group die?

  • Can someone post "Indian Summer"?

  • I'm done arguing with you, let's enjoy the video and I apologize to all the other people posting. I was trying to let others know that this CD is available if you want. Also I apologize to betafrequency who posted this video. Keep up the good work.

  • This is a great video

  • The reason you probably don't have the Cd because the CD is worth now about 200 dollars. When I bought the CD several years ago, I believe 8 years ago, Amazon had it for $20 bucks, because it is such a rare CD collectors have snatched them up. I'm so glad I was able to educate you on this subject, and never question me in regards to 80's music. I challenge anyone to out smart me, or rather , as you say out smart ass me.

    Peace. Dansanbash.!!!!!!

Only a loser sends a PM like that. Dummy!

  • This song was on the best of the Dream Academy CD called Somewhere in the Sun. It's very hard to find now

  • Cool CD

  • Whatever bro!! Why don't you just shut up and enjoy the video and song and stop messing it up for everyone else.

  • Listen you fucking loser, i wasn't replying to you. I was replying to fuckin Pizzulo. And as far as 80's music is concerned, I could kick your fuckin ass anytime.

  • It's considered an import because it is not available in the U.S. mainstream retail outlets. Besides, when I bought the CD on amazon it was labeled as an import.

  • If you have Real Player on your computer, you can download this video

  • Very hard to find. Odd that someone said it was an import....it was made in USA.

  • Tried Ferris soundtrack not there!!!

  • John Hughes never released a Ferris Beuller's Day Off soundtrack.

  • Its an import only. Amazon has it for like 20 bucks

  • Anyone know where I can buy this song please?

  • just buy the ferris bueller soundtrack

  • It was never released, smartass.

  • gran cover...great

  • Can you get this song on anyone of their albums?

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs from the Smith's & interpretation by the Dream Academy is incredible !

  • Kate St. John is so beauiful :-)

  • Great cover!!! The best Smiths cover !!!

  • Outstanding!!!

  • Really beautiful version of an already great song. This is what covers/interpretations should be.

  • I am also big Smith's fan,but I have to say I like this one too!!!

  • a cena do museu jamais seria a mesma sem essa música.

    jonh willians acertou em cheio

  • Nuala..

    ilum.

    :-/

  • Huge Smiths fan but I have to say this is a really beautiful cover.

  • this is beautiful a different take on the smiths version

  • can we get the dream academy the edge of forever on here again??

  • this was originally the smiths

  • original is always better. but this rocks!

  • yes, i sincerely agree, Kate St. John was frankly beautiful back then... oh to capture the 80's Youth and Simplicity and to have Basil paint them on a Canvas, all the while, we could watch the Painting whither while we remain entombed back in our Youth.

  • brilliant and very emotional

    great band

  • I have always liked the Smiths version of this track, but there is something very haunting about this version.

And Kate St. John is truly beautiful.

  • this video makes me dizzy...

  • Dream Academy- best band ever. AND I say that as a Smiths fan.

  • Forget all the fluff that the play in the background every Thursday on Grey's Anatomy.... Any Dream Academy album from back in the day would make a perfect soundtrack

  • i love this version.. its great.. especially the instrumental mix.... but the smiths original is better...

  • The Smiths ^^

  • who did this first dream academy or smiths? i like this version better.

  • The Smiths version is the original.

  • and blows this version out of the water

  • Beautiful song. The voices and instrumentation are fantastic and who would have thought something as mournful as an oboe would sound so perfectly right in a 'pop' song?

  • Clear voices and beautiful melody makes me happy and reminds me good memory...Thank you!

  • I like this version over the smiths original. It just feels right. + Kate saint John hotness+;)

  • É muito linda essa música é Trilha sonora do filme: Curtindo a Vida Adoidado (Ferris Bueller's Day Off, ano: 1986)

    Marsel - Brazil

  • Esta música é do Smiths, mas fora usada como trilha sonora do curtindo a vida adoidado.

  • I love this song but it depresses the hell out of me.

  • Had never heard this beautiful tune 'til I recently saw a girl's slideshow here on YouTube. Didn't even realise it was a cover version of a Smiths track.

This version has a definate nod to "AMERICA" by Simon & Garfunkel and also to a classical tune though I can't for the life of me which one but................it's the one which Debbie Harry & Chris Stein based "SOUND-A-SLEEP" on and many others have before & since.

  • Have you since found out about the composition? I happen to dig all three songs, that would be a nice addition to my "random knowledge" filer.

  • When did this song come out? Circa?

Beautiful song! Musical bridge was in Ferris Bueller's Day Off(the art museum scene)

  • 1983-1985

  • LOL

  • Big Morrissey fan, but The Dream Academy's version (to me) is much better! Pretty cool that Morrissey allowed The Dream Academy to do this song.

  • What a waste of comment.

The Smiths are a masterpiece of a band.

Even if you think they are "weird"

  • wow....

  • Thanks a lot for putting this on, loved this version and have waited a long time to hear it again.

  • Great song. The Smith's version is good, but I prefer this. How hot is Kate St. John?

  • kate st john is soooooooooo money

  • Can't go wrong with that Kate St. John oboe. Love both versions.

  • no contest, morrissey owns this song, no matter what version, they all pale to his original.

  • i think that Morrissey can do this song better

  • just as it goes please let me let me let me let me get what i want....please!

  • This cover is perfect!

  • Not a patch on The Smiths' version.

  • Wow. This sends me right back. I knew this version before the Smiths'. I loved this band! It's even more plaintive, less ironic, than Morrissey's. Thanks so much beta for posting.

  • As good as the Smith's version is, this is actually a much better cover - just for the sound of the synth and the clarinet.

The music, lyrics and the video convery so much emotion - it fills me with a profound sense of sadness.

  • That's not a clarinet. It's an oboe. Either way it's still played really well.

  • can make anyone cry:(( but a really peaceful melody.

  • was this music used in Ferris Buellers day off?

  • yep

  • A version of this - it was instrumental. And it's a cover of the Smith's Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want.

  • It's the instrumental of this version.

  • This song and video are Amazing!! They should put this song on I Tunes.

  • This is absolutely stunning

  • Absolutely amazing..........

  • this is one of those rare covers that does the original justice and even, dare i say, surpasses it?

  • Well put.

  • It looks a bunch of music faculty students got together and decided to put together a band. But I like it :-)

  • I like it with lyrics in the smiths version but with dream academy i prefer it instrumental

  • perfect song for daydreaming :)

    Tis good in Ferris ;)

  • I'd have to agree that the song isn't quite the same with lyrics.

I managed to get the entire song without the lyrics, like in F. Beulers Day Off.

Click my name, and you'll see it under the film called Emotions. I made a small film to go with the music. Because personally, to me, it's one of the most moving instrumental pieces I have heard in a long time.

  • Some parts of this song is great, but some of it is kinda cheesy (the singing) compared to the original version. the best parts of it were used in the Ferris Bueller movie, I think. Maybe because there wasn't any singing in it.

  • This is a beautiful version of this song. I love the scene in Ferris where they're at the art gallery just 4 this song.

  • How was this song not a huge hit? It's absolutely amazing.

  • I love this

  • Fuckin' beautiful.

  • wow, not come across many covers better than original, really nice

  • This is my favorite version of this song.

  • I kinda like this version better than the smiths cuz it's actually over a minute long.

  • it's a big cover of the smiths...geat!they do it perfect!

  • i wanted mean if anyone can upload the singed version (this youtube version)

i have only the instrumental and i can't find it!

  • anyone the singed version of this great song?

  • This is a good band and an instance where a cover song betters the original. I remember fondly sitting in my buddies room when we were teenagers and his having their record lying on the floor, brings back memories. I love that album cover from their first album.

  • I love the feeling this song gives me...it's like a trip away from reality. So beautiful.

  • I had this laserdic back in the day

  • super song! thanks a bunch for posting!

  • Wow. Sigh. I remember buying the Dream Academy's first video in '86 - this was on it, and the videos for the songs 'Love Parade', 'This World' and 'Life in a Northern Town'. Seeing Nick look THAT young surely sheds 20 years from my own skin. Thanks for posting...

  • Save Ferris!

  • What an immature comment. Grow up kid.

  • To rephrase that. Is this music generaly prefered by non heterosexuals by large scale more than heteros. I think this music insinuates some strange love between same gender types. WTF? It's all i meant, GEEZ.

  • What exactly is 'homosexual music'? Music is music. Either you like it or you don't.

  • My humble apologies!

  • First of all, learn to correctly use grammar. "Is this music generaly prefered by non heterosexuals by large scale more than heteros". Secondly, you are incredibly ignorant to make a comment like that.

  • It was a question not a general comment, and secondly check the meaning of the word "ignorant".

  • You may have a point there. Do you think the Original is the same?

  • look up "muse smiths" good cover of this song

  • Dream Academy really took this song to the next level with this killer arrangement. This is one of the rare covers that surpasses the original.

  • The keyboard player is playing an EMULATOR Keyboard - the same kind as Ferris has in his room in the movie - :)

  • not heard this song for bloody years! still love it as much as i did then.

  • anyone has the clip from 'ferris bueller's day off art museum scene? please post that again? please, please?

there's one here in youtube but some jerk totally ruined it by including his ugly butt in the clip.

  • I thought I had heard everything by Dream Academy. It's the first time I've seen this lost treasure, a real treat, thanks for posting.

  • ferris lives

  • This song is on a disc Sedated in the Eighties. The instrumetal version is on a disc Boutique Chill. Technically the theme of this song is what the movie Ferris Beuller's Day Off is about. Thanks for poting video. COOL!

  • oh... thank you for this vid... i love this soong... it is one of my favourite... thank's a lot!!!

  • makes you really appreciate the smiths

  • This is one of the best songs ever from DA, though it's a cover.

They made wonderful music. Hope that they will re-unite someday.

  • so please please please let me get a haircut.

    great tune, awful hairdo

  • indeed 1 of the best Smiths cover ever..ever by anyone. In their own right a fabulous band.

  • ...let me, let me, let me know where can I get this song for downloading..it's not available on itunes...I saw this video twice back in 1985 and it never left me..never saw it again until now..22 years later..The Dream Academy rules!!!..thx for posting it..

  • I found an instrumental version of this song on youtube about a field trip by grade 11 students visiting victoria, and on there somebody mentions where you can get the song

I hope this helps a little

  • limewire!

  • Before I'll start a mad rush, there are 2 versions of this video. This is the version on the Pioneer 12" laser disc video album. There is a second version with overlays of news footage on the VHS. The copy I have is Australian but I think the US version is the same.

It took me 20 years to find this 12", bought it eventually via ebay. Searched everywhere in the world but eventually after I got mine, I saw a copy in Hong Kong, where I live.

  • Found the instrumental of this on a CD called Boutique Chill which you can get via Amazon for about $24 - enjoy

  • megaupload.
