@rextinctione LOL, I think this is one of least rural locations I could find. This area is surrounded by at least 8 towns and villages, most of which are signposted. It's pretty difficult to get lost as long as you know where you need to go! as a comparison, this video starts as Hanbury (a village) and ends at Droitwich, going through 2 other villages along the way! It's still fairly rural though...
thats good but to me it still looks like it would be scary to get lost but im not exactly saying anyone would get lost just looks like a good place to make a horror movie lol
@rextinctione You should see our single track roads, with tall hedges on either side. Now that is creepy at night! They tend to be in very rural areas. They can only fit 1 car so if you come across someone (or worse, a tractor) coming the other way, one of you will have to reverse back to a passing place. And they're in the middle of nowhere.... The bears might eat you alive!!!
lol thats sounds creepy so I rather be stuck in this here instead! actually wouldnt like to be stuck anywhere but sometimes it happens! that would suck to reverse all the way!
I love roads like that. I will take the back roads to places just so I can drive through areas similar to this. It usually takes slightly longer than the highway, but in my opinion it's totally worth it. Of course, it's much easier to get lost if you're not familiar with the area, but that's all part of the adventure haha.
@mattbjrs I know some people who really hate the motorways and like to use these roads, but there are also some people (like my sister) who get travel sick and want the straightest road possible. I'm not sure which I prefer, I only have about 2-3 hours of motorway driving experience. It's better than town/city driving though.
@04smallmj I'm not a big fan of the interstates here because my car's optimal speed is about 40-50 mph because of its very bad aerodynamics and the speed limits on the interstate are 55-65 ("realistic" speed limit = 60-75 mph lol). So I have difficulty accelerating in traffic. Also, there are a lot more drivers to deal with so it's less relaxing to me.
I do agree about city driving, I would rather take the interstate than go through the city and its excess of traffic lights lol.
@quatlen Very rare as public roads. There may be some in rural places like the Scottish Highlands, but still pretty rare. Even the tiny single lane roads are paved. We have gravel car parks though, which are fairly common. Dirt roads don't exist here, to my knowledge. Due to the hilly nature of the UK and the weather, it will either get washed away or it will get incredibly muddy.
@quatlen You're welcome. We just don't have as much road space to cover. Being in the middle of nowhere here is totally different to being in the middle of nowhere, in say, Nebraska or somewhere in Canada. There's usually a village within 10-30 miles here. In Nebraska, you could probably go 50 miles and see nothing but corn fields...
whats he on a 50 lol

How common are dirt or gravel roads in the UK?

@04smallmj Thx for sharing. They're just so common in America and I wasn't sure how common they were in the UK.
