  • Had the pleasure of playing this piece along with Wilby's 'Lowery's Sketchbook' and Goff Richard's 'Country Scene' at Bristol Cathedral earlier this year with Mr. Wilby present. It was quite an experience.

  • Why does Philip Wilby keep talking over what Sir Colin is trying to say? It's very rude and I would love to hear his answers!

  • its odd. i know quite a few orchestral players and a couple of choir conductors and they all think the same thing, music is music and shouldn't be made into a competition. One choir master actually told me it was pathetic and took the whole meaning of music away yet it is complete brass band tradition to compete and i feel that it puts even more of the excitement into the music when its competition. i can't imagine it without competition.

  • No disrespect to Dr. Nick, but surely as an experiment to see what a top conductor from the classsical orchestral world can make of brass bands, it would have perhaps been more intriguing to have Sir Colin conduct the whole CD? After all, when Sir Colin Davis was principal conductor of the LSO, the orchestra still owuld have had guest conductors play concerts and make recordings and not just for one piece.

  • Good point but the schedules of both the band and Sir Colin probably made it impossible for that to happen.

  • This CD is due for release on Saturday 1st March 2008.
