  • guys i know manuals are fun and all, but cmon, with the technology we have today such as race trannys that can take a huge amount of power... automatics are just plain quicker than manuals and will get them in a drag anyday. nice srt-4 man.

    LMAO a 1.8l 180hp family hatback sedan and you come in here talking shit! Plus a 2003-2005 SRT4 has a higher resale than that with low or high mileage. BTW I have seen those same VW's bring under 5k. It isn't like you are driving some HEMI CUDA or someting. Plus last I checked some of the best cars are not manufactured/ in production anymore. FAG

  • yea i have an 05 srt and i would trade my 5 speed darrel cox auo tranny all day. Btw its a stock srt block thats bored .20 over and stroked. The pro series head is sik too but very surprised with the numbers? I think they should have been at least a little bit higher. A gt 30r will make better torque numbers on a stock block and stock head lol

  • @cgs192010 Yea, there's no such thing as a tranny swap... YOU'RE SMART. There's barely anything stock about that car and it's a real srt 4 dumbass i know cause the clones don't have the motor or the same front end.

  • What tranny is it based on? I ask because I own the Mexican market Chrysler Cirrus 2005 (Sebring) with the same engine as the SRT-4 but with the Autostick 41TE. Do you know how many HPs  does the 41TE support? What modifications would you recommend?

  • Research Sox and Martin. They were able to shift manually faster than autos could. However, auto trans is constant power. With a clutch you are losing power while it is engaged. Autos also weigh more and have more moving parts, therefore less efficient than a manual. All about preference really.

  • Professional drag racers use automatics. They're much faster on the strip if theyre the right ones. but Manuals are much more fun!

  • you get more acurate constant times with auto but can shift faster with manual

  • a good automatic transmission shifts faster than any person. That's why virtually every built turbo drag car runs an auto- less time between shifts = less turbo lag

With an auto you keep your foot on the pedal WOT while the car slips into the next gear, with a sticc, you have to lift off the gas.. Which sounds faster? And if a manual shifted faster, why are most classes run by auto trannies?

  • They always have been. I believe it take a lot of the skill out of drag racing though. 500hp srt4 shouldn't be too bad to handle with slicks on it. I had a 390hp EG and it weighed in at 2300lbs. But to each their own and if they can afford it, oh well.

  • There are 8 second evo's running manual transmission on a daily basis. Erabbit has ran 9.87 with a manual transmission in a SRT4. Mellon ran the STOCK evo transmission for MONTHS with OVER 500, CLOSER to 600HP, with a lot of street launches.

    And you answered your own question, sorry you aren't smart enough to realize it. The part that takes the skill out of it is there isn't much you have to do with an auto... If you have a set stall, which many drag automatics so, all you do is rev it, it

  • revs to the predetermined limit, hence the stall, then you let go and off you go. Then you shift....oh wait, that is when the automatic takes over isn't it??? Ok, nevermind, you don't skill just sit back and wait for the lights and then hit the brake. Of course it isn't that easy running 9's but you don't have to worry about the 1st to 2nd gear shift in 1 second or every other shift. THAT is why and how it takes the skill out of it.

    And it is nothing like leaving on a clutch lmao...

  • Consistency with an automatic is easier to come by than with a standard. If you disagree with this then wow, just wow. And just to let you know, horse power doesn't break engines, transmission or transfer cases, torque does. Torque is the ultimate killer of parts. That is why a lot of clutches state they can handle x amount of TORQUE, not hp. Well the good clutches from the shop I frequently visit and buy parts from, rate them at.

  • Take for example the turbo that I am going to use once I get my motor back, it is an fp red. I am looking for right around 500+awhp and right about the same torque. Going with a gt35 at about 500awhp the torque with be in the low 400's to high 300's because of power delivery. So that is why you can't go based on HP.

    You are making the argument that an auto is better. I am saying that other platforms do just fine with a manual, even ERABBIT23 uses a manual in his 9 second srt4.

    An auto can handle the same amount of power than a manual can, at these levels. The biggest difference is it is harder to drive a manual than a standard, hence the skill part.

    Just like a Dogbox, there is one car in the Evo community that uses one and ran a 9.5 with a dog box and there is plenty others that use a rebuilt, performance stock transmission running lower 9's and faster mph.

  • auto trannys have been the way to go since the 70's where have you been even a lot of the supra fags are running power glides or th-400's

    actually if you have been to a REAL drag strip with REAL cars.. and im talking cars that run 11 and under quarters you would know that they are mostly auto's and that all cars i'd say that run 10's and under are autos.

    why dont you take the time to look up or talk to real racers and see why auto's are better instead of just assuming your typical manual is better.. even though its kind of obvious they lose traction and have much shorter gears but whatever. you can look it up.

You can try your own statement out and go to a dragstrip and check the trannys on 11 and 10 second cars, I can promise you %90 of those are manual, now crank it up to 9-8 second cars still more manual then auto. Now past that, then there is your auto > stick arguement. but your "much shorter gears" is wrong as fuck. you would lose traction with shorter gears not gain it. Try longer gears. "you can look it up" :)

    you are very right, lol. but to add to that so you know im not that retarted, it also depends on the type of car, most tuners like you said down to 8 sec are going to be manual. where as most muscle cars running 11 sec or faster are automatic.

    which when i say automatic, I mean ANYTHING without a clutch or less than 4 gears. But i do stand corrected on my previous post ;)

  • because you can try to run a 1/4 mile is a fully manual transmission but your not gonna get the same times as an automatic. gonna be atleast a second or so off.

    a automatic Transmission sends the power from the engine to the wheels fast and more reliable. no miss shifts no BS. this is almost a $8k transmission i belive. people are funning big numbers on these.

    95% of todays Dragsters going atleast 10 seconds or faster are using Automatic Transmission
