it is so nice to hear this after not hearing it for so long!! my whole family is from shanghai and they still speak it in the states although when i go to china, people my age no longer speak it :(
actually no they dont speak that in shanghai they learn mandrin in schools my cousin who is 10 can onlyu understand it not speak it. =( but i can speak it >=D even though ive lived in canada all my life. and lol this stuff is funny i showed my mom xD the end is priceless
When i went there and when ever my parents go *they go about every year or twice* only their families and friends speak shanghainese but the general public like when you go buy stuff its usually mandarin
true but not where I was living, Yuan Ping Lu, za bei district all the locals speak Shanghainese, and my parents in law can hardly speak Mandarin because they always speak shanghainese, that's the only reason I can speak quite a lot of Shanghainese and understand. They know lao wei can't really understand putonghua

I know how you feel. I speak it and my whole family apeaks it. Here in the US my friends can understand, but cant speak it. No one my age speaks it:(
