Sonny Berman, had he lived would have been one of the most celebrated trumpet players of all time. His brief but brilliant solos with Woody Herman were stratospheric but of an amazingly pure tone. One of my prized albums is his "Sonny Berman Plays His Favorite Jewish Songs My son tracked the LP down in Japan to give to me as a present after a twenty year search. It later came out on CD.
