There's one thing I don't get: why is it that *after* Ayaka says "thiso" or "ito", they uderstand and then correctly pronounce "this" and "it" ?! %-)

it's the way the Japanese alphabet is set up - every consonant is connected to a vowel - so, for example, it's not just "K" (as in the English language) - it's "Ka" or "Ki" or "Ku" or "Ke" or "Ko". The only consonant that stands alone without an attached vowel is "N/M". Because every Japanese student has to take English in Jr. High & High School, they know our alphabet & know that our consonants stand alone, unlike theirs. The problem for them is hearing these consonants when being pronounced...

So if you're Japanese & someone's pronouncing an English sentence that you've never heard before, you're bound to miss some words. But if someone pronounces an English word for you the way they would pronounce it in Japanese, you'd understand how to say it in English.

For instance, in Japanese, you pronounce the word "T-shirts" as "ti-sha-stu". If you sound out the consonants according to the Japanese alphabet, they'll hear it better, then pronounce it according to the English language. ^^

Nooo, both the class scene and Ayaka's lesson were part of a show called "Bishoujo Kyouiku". Ayaka's Lessons were a corner of that show too. The show featured 3 H!P members and a "teacher" (usually Nakazawa Yuko, but sometimes Heike Michiyo would be a "tutor" since she appears as a student most times). There would be a lesson for the 3 students such as Math, Calligraphy, etc.

Every 8 mins., Ayaka's Totsugeki Eikaiwa would take place in place of a commercial (since the network it ran on was commercial-free, I believe). There would be 3 English lessons per 30 min. show. The show ended in mid-2001, then it was later renewed and called "Bishoujo Kyoiku II", where the format for the main show was different, but Ayaka's lessons still took place. Long ago, there used to be full episodes here on YouTube, but they're long gone now.
