its a stringed instrument called a bass -guitar- because of the thicker string sizes, which resonate at lower pitches. so using the higher frets on a bass guitar gives it a deeper, richer sound which is a pinnacle in jazz style music, i guess.
also, i believe in having all techniques at my disposal :)
actually my intention was to show that with this bass from Ibanez to play any style, pace, there are other videos which show up doing another kind of sound with this bass ....
there's a terrible misconception around that as soon as you enter the upper range of a bass and play some chords that it ceases to be bass playing any more. watch almost any video of victor wooten(arguably one of the best bassists on the planet) and you'll see him doing both of those things. Bassists are starting to be less and less comfortable sitting in the background with their thumbs up their asses playing root notes and basic walks. Get used to it, bass is the new guitar.
@Damianlkh Problem is this is a demo of a bass guitar. Since we bass players play BASS 95% of the time and guitar like stuff like this only occasionally (and that includes Wooten) I want to hear how it sounds as a bass.
reviews like this are nice, don't get me wrong, but if you're thinkin' about buying one, it would really help to hear the bass being played with a band. Doesn't really matter what kind of an band or what your amp is etc. just to get a general idea whether it can cut through the guitars.
i agree this type of jackoffery is totally useless in the real world or any band situation..........unless you intend on doing solo bass gigs at taco cabana
it's a limited view of the instrument that makes you blind to the gorgeous tone he's getting, as well as the articulation it takes to play something graceful on one of these. It's a VERY unforgiving instrument and really takes a masterful touch to not have it bark at you! I know, I own one.
All that may be true but the fact remains I would like to hear how it sounds when played as a bass. Is that so hard to understand? If I am ever going to purchase the bass I want to hear how it sounds as a Bass with deeper tone settings and through a bass amp. It's the reason I listened to this in the first place. It doesn't matter as I found other videos. It sounds quite good. I may be interested in the fretless version.

How about playing some Bass? I don't care how it sounds as a guitar.

It sounds like a guitar and he's playing it like a guitar. None of that is arguable.
