i know the guy who played the guy who lost. he's my highschool wrestling coaches brother. by the way it's mclean and did you know the movie was filmed partly in spokane, washington.
The look on Louden's face is fucking priceless. I think we have all been there at least once in our lives. If not you still have something to learn!!!
Don't get me wrong, when wrestling is incorporated into MMA with fists, kicksand elbows, I approve wholeheartedly. But wrestling on its own is gay. Period. Too much man contact. Can somebody please throw a fucking punch?
@CnutRexAnglorum I bet you don't do any of the things you just mentioned. Wrestling was created to by the Greeks, so if you dropped your sword, you could still kill a motherfucker!
matt mclean is my dad.. thats whats up..i've seen this movie so many fuckin times..my dad woulda destroyed shute if it wasnt a movie..shute wasnt even a wrestler.
Was McLean supposed to be really good at 168, and this is why Louden is so distraught at the end because Shute destroyed him? It doesn't make sense any other way, you wouldn't take notes on someone's fish matches, but I'm wondering if it's said in the movie.
@billyjoet99 I think the point was that Louden was counting on some more insight on Shute's tactics....longer than 20 seconds. I know, it's very complicated to understand. :)
As a former varsity wrestler for Bowie High School (Maryland Wrestling Powerhouse) we would travel all over the state throwing other teams wrestlers around like Shute did. And after pinning every wrester on the opposing team coach would give us a pizza party at the end of the season. So I was definately tossing guys around in matches regardless of their reputations!
I remember watching this movie when it came out. That shute guy was pretty much a badass. Yep, once you see a guy doing bleachers w/ a huge piece of timber on his shoulders, it's time to move aside.
nah i like that hes not a cliche jerk. In wrestling I was always surprised how decent some of the guys were (although certainly not all of them), you're all going through hell, its a common bond.
i like that too. It was all about the competition. Like when Louden talks to him and he's carrying a lumber in the bleachers. He says asks Louden if he's gonna make the weight. Louden says he hopes so and Shute says he hopes so too. Thats the true mentality of a champ. Today's champs are all about trash talking and demeaning their oponents. How is saying that opponent is crap makes you any grander. Shute wants to be the best and he wants the best challenges for that. I respect that
all i could think about while reading this was Ali, he was the cockiest mother fucker out there and sometimes, yeah, he got crushed. the first time he went up against frashier he got his ass beat, why? IMO, he was way to damn cocky for his own good. i don't see why people see Ali as one of the greats
Because he wasn't one of the greats, he was the greatest, and you gotta understand, he wasn't just amazing, he was an inspiration to the african american culture, he was one of those guys that made black people worth something I remember watching a biography and one of his trainers said "he would make it seem like who ever he would fight was the worker of the white man and he would make himself look like the fighter of the black people" He was a legend...

What an inspirational flick. Thought it may have been more real if Shute would have won the match at the end, but it's a movie.

@CnutRexAnglorum Sorry dude. Gay is when a man uses his penis on another man in a sexual way. Or vice versa. Sorry to have to break the news to you.

@ACmetalfaceDC wresting predates the Greeks. Wrestling was found on cave walls and ancient Egyptian temples.

One of my favorite parts of the movie is when they play the "Jaws" music every time Shute steps on the mat.

I agree. If you're trash talking your opponent and calling him a piece of crap, then all you did was go out and beat a piece of crap.
