No springs, just rubber bands and a wooden disk with notch. The disk pushes up a rod on the end of the neck that pivots the head down, then when the notch comes around, the rod drops and the head pops up.
Thanks. I got the tail to wag, but left it unpainted at the suggestion of my family. Schuyler died a year ago at 14. She liked to roll a tennis ball to my wife with her nose, pretty much as depicted.
How did you get tail to wag with side to side movements?

The tail now wags and I was planning to paint it, but decided not to because my family said the bare wood was just the right color.
