Bird strike is one of these things about aviations that boggles me. Aviation try to be safe but there is always the possibility that a bird flock takes out BOTH engines (and it happened - Hudson water landing) and the God knows what will follow. It's mind boggling how everyone just accepts this.

This just happened to me, taking off from Runway 34R at KSLC, big bird issues over there over the great salt lake, well we took off and wam!!!, poor little bastard smashed right into the wing.

Fortunately no harm done (except for the birdie) we were able to continue our flight to KDEN.
