He's beautiful, not stressed in any way, watching his trainer alertly for his cue, this is cooperation and trust between human and horse. It does happen y'know!
lol i rode a fjord pony in a show and i jumped him. we only placed 4th in eq u/s. but not in anything else :( he was my ex-friends pony and they said he was an amazing jumped just cause he jumped once! two years ago!!! and she tried to sabotoge my showing day, western and english, except i was on my horse for western.. um im rambling now :P what i was sayingg is they are super cute and quiet different to ride
if you look carefully, the "on command" is waving a whip below his face. it is true holding a whip beneathe a horse is often used to create a levade, however this is used among many other aids. your "command" is actually seen as a form of attack, and so the horse uses an instinctual reaction. its not a trick, its nature - and what happens if its next owner happens to be carrying a whip in the wrong way?
@magnetxxella, I'm not waving a whip below his face.
The video is not very clear but I wave the whip beside his right shoulder.
Also I use a voice command.
He never rears when I only wave my whip or only use my voice.
I have to combine these command.
I can tell you as much as I want but if you don't believe it I really don't care but he NEVER rears out of itself.. even not when he's playing in the yield.
@magnetxxella Yeah right, thats why as soon as he's finsihed rearing he comes rushing forward for his treat, because he's 'being attacked'. If his next owner cant hold a whip properly, thats their problem, just as a child who can't canter better not go booting a pony thats been taught to canter !
@Elliehedditch30 Because you have food - an incentive to keep him close. Can't you see the way he lashes out with that one hoof, and the body language where he twitches his face away from the whip? You need to find a way that is non threatening to ask a rear of him. All you need to do is maybe read some books.
@magnetxxella so your telling me if i was to do anything to my horse that he found threatening he would stay by my seid for a piece of apple? he might find it annoying or whatever but threatening is just stupid.
@magnetxxella stop thinking you know it all ass hole. Theyt gave it a treat after he did it so stop complaining. If the horse was frightened it would have ran away
aw soo cute iv always wanted a fjord!!! and dont listen to these people that are all like "THATS DANGEROUSE YKNOW" cuase there DUMB. and for the record you "know it alls" there something called a levade LOOK IT UP!!!!!
@rainnovice93 im not trieng to be mean, i dont know much about training horses but if he was pissed of wouldnt he just leave? no one was holding the lead rope.

It's nothing about having a 'speshul bond' with your horse - you're teaching him potentially dangerous behaviour, either for yourself or for the next person to own him. What were you trying to prove or achieve anyway? Why not train him to do something useful like half-passes or flying lead changes instead of something 'showy' and immature?
And graciejockey101 is completely right, who are you to criticise her on what she wishes to teach her pony?! (who is beautiful btw, always wanted a Fjord!) If she wants to teach her pony to play frickin scrabble it's non of your business! All she's doing is showing what she and Taco have accomplished! How is teaching him to rear being immature? Have you seen the Andalausian Stallions in the Spanish riding school?Go tell those guys they're immature!
@capri30 you shut up she is teaching it sumthing and that shows how commited she is for taking time to do so and its not dangerous if its ON COMMAND honestly you should learn to read
haha cool. I kind of agree, looks like his ears are back and that he is kicking out to get the stick away from him. But anyway lol good job and he is very pretty!
yeah, the problem with that is at the other end of the stick the horse might be rearing because they don't like it. They might not know what they're doing. But I think the horse looks ok :]
OMG that is so cool i ride a norweign fiord! i have been trying to teach my pony to rear but its not working lol! can you help like give me tips and stuff please! :)

Not a good thing to teach a horse to rear. Someday you may have to part with it and someone down the line won't understand what it's been taught.

@capri30
First of all, learn to spell.
Second, how do you know that this horse does know how to do a half-pass and/or flying lead changes?
And 3rd, It's her choice to teach him a trick like that and you are being immanture by contradicting it.

you need to learn the horse to lay down or something first because rearing is a dominatic trick!

He kicks out because I thought him to rear to do jambette with both legs.
So he both pows them to the front
Under the saddle he rears the same.
