  • suport SODIMM PC10600 / 1333 Kingnstong in imac intel core i5

  • Does the iMac use the DDR3 Memory Slot?

  • How much do they cost?

  • I have iMac i5 2011, and one doubt: can i upgrade from 4Gb to 12Gb ou 16Gb? Apple's site said 8Gb is the maximum, but i read somewhere, saying that i can upgrade to more than 8Gb. So?

    Thx in advance! Cya

  • @tiagoespindola Download Mac Tracker, locate your model and check there.

  • @davomrmac can you please explain what you do to get rid of the remaining electricity on your motherboard?? when i pressed the power button my iMac turned on

  • @GiannicTheGod Press the power button without it plugged in I think :/

  • @davomrmac thank you !

  • @tiagoespindola yah i called Apple and they said 16 GB is the max

  • @tiagoespindola yah i called Apple and they said 16 GB is the max 4GB per slot

  • Thank you for your quick response, forgot to mention that I was looking at upgrading the new 2011 21.5 inch to a 16GB, still possible? Apple's site is confusing..sorry.

  • @XxOsmodiusxX I think so, best bet is to plug the exact model into the crucial dot com memory selector and see what it says.

  • I heard that you can only Upgrade the new 2011 Imac's to 8GB, is this true? I am planning on buying the 21.5 inch from Best Buy and will be using it for Logic Pro.

  • @XxOsmodiusxX Yes you can.

  • Will memory help with gaming aswell on the macs?

  • @ecartman12 Yes.

  • @davomrmac Just watched your imac unboxing and noticed that you didn't unbox the tower. Does the imacs have a tower or is it just the monitor?

  • @ecartman12 It is all built into the back of the screen.

  • @davomrmac WOW. That is cool. Is the £999 version of the imac good for playing games on it like Batman Arkham Asylum?

  • @ecartman12 It will be OK, but sore serious gaming move up the range.

  • @davomrmac When you say it will be ok do you mean that the game will not run smoothly?

  • @ecartman12 If it is graphic intensive then it will not run smoothly. If you are serious about gaming you need to buy the highest end model you can afford.

  • @davomrmac Thanks. What model do you have out of curiosity? Out of the 4 versions which one do you own?

  • @ecartman12 I don't have an iMac. If I was buying I would get the top end 27.

  • will it help in using programs like final cut por, and will it make games like call fo duty run better?

  • whr did you get the screw driver from ? is it especially made for iMac or just an ordinary screwdriver ?

    Thanks

  • @MrAlestair It is a Kamasa, general use, small tips.

  • Very good video. I installed the same way without even moving the iMac on the edge of the computer desk. Thanks for posting.

  • dont u think it would be easier for apple to combine the keyboard AND the track pad??

  • That looked very easy to install.

  • will adding ram to a 2011 base model imac improve gaming at all? this is my first mac:)

  • @SnazzyGuyTv4 Glad it helped, thanks for watching.

  • Thank you!

  • great vid mate, if i buy an 8gb kit, and leave the 4 in there ill have 12gb of ram. is it more advisable to stick to 8gb? having 12 wont cause it to run dodgy will it?

    thanks

  • @modelearth Nope that should be fine, just check what available slots you have before ordering.

  • nice detailed video.

Do you recommend a name brand memory or will a no name memory from ebay suffice?

can you also mix different memory sizes or must all 4 be identical?

  • @MrSikwithit I would buy Crucial or a branded memory to avoid issues later on.

  • @nlck1597 The upgrade will make your iMac feel more responsive and snappy, so yes, if it is in your budget.

  • @nlck1597 Which processor, oh I thought you were buying a new Mac. Upgrading the processor would be very hard.

  • @nlck1597 I would always buy the best processor you can afford, as RAM can be upgraded later.

  • @unlikeanyotherhuman Thanks for watching.

  • wow, its so easy to upgrade the ram, i love the way apple put thought into things like that

  • wonderful picture

  • @lifelinegadgets Thanks.

  • So I'm sort of depressed. Looks like a waste of money? I like the video. I ordered this same exact iMac today from Apple. But I don't want to spend money on more RAM from Crucial if it's going to slow me down like it did on the bench score? Weird? So if I went with 12 or 16GB of RAM, it might even be slower?!

  • @davmrmac

If i have an unbooted (never turned on) 27 inch imac, should i boot it first and install the new memory or leave it unbooted and install the memory?

  • how may cores does the 21.5 i5 has?

  • @ultimatenerd22 think its quad-core (4) not positive though

  • Thank for this very informative video, subscribed.

  • @lawnmowerdude Thanks for watching.

  • have you ever used boy serif software before

  • @wiimiifan2010 No, what do they publish.

  • how much did yuo pay for that custom imac 21.5inch computer?? because on apple web site the price is not there for that model! thx

  • @mproductionsmusik It was around £1,409 in the UK. It is a CTO or BTO option when you add the item.

  • How much do the memory chips cost in american

  • @kid1598123 around 100

  • @kid1598123 around $100

  • thanks man, that was very useful information... How much is the Crucial 2 GB ram in market ??

  • lovely- thanks

  • Thx

  • @MrBanifaciy Thanks for watching.

  • Nice video!!

  • thnks.my father runs logic pro and other same programms and I installed him a 16 gb memory.thnks for helping

  • @UhYoUaReDeAd Glad it helped.

  • so, just to be clear, i should or i shouldnt buy and upgrade the memory?

  • @MrTornadoKid If you run multiple apps at the same time, the extra memory will really help.

  • @davomrmac hey, say that i want to just only add 4 more gigabytes, to make it a total of 8 gb, can i just buy one 4 GB ram and add it, or do i have to buy two 2GB ram and put them in each of the 2 slots?

  • @bludika I think you can add single modules, but this may not give the best performance as it addresses dual channels. I would stick to adding them in pairs.

  • @davomrmac alright thanks, i guess ill have to buy two 2GB rams then

  • Thank you for a great review.

  • @wslandry Glad you enjoyed it.

  • hey dave do u watch the gadget show if u do what are your thoughts on it

  • I enjoyed the review. I am delighted that this upgrade did not require putty knife and a prayer, like when I upgraded the memory on my Mac Mini.

  • @bevoburn I remember those days, finding nice thin putty knives just to open the case.

  • I've never been a fan of benchmarking programs :(.

  • does apple ever send u products to review????

  • @lebronJAMES3547 Yes, sometimes.

  • @davomrmac do you get to keep them?

  • @josepister No, sadly not.

  • great video

  • @littleweapon12 Thanks.

  • Whoa, before you put your hand in the shot in the first 5 seconds, it looked like the iMac was in a professional picture.

  • @BrandonScott1001 :) it was a good angle.

  • my previous generation iMac only has 1GB of RAM. is that good enough for an iMac?

  • @mitsubishigalant Yes, for light tasks.

  • hey, is the iMac windows 7 or is it windows vist or xp??? the new ones are windows 7 right?

  • @THEguySEEha D:

  • A slick video, Dave.

I dont know how you got the camera in so close and at an angle to see it plus being able to work inside the slot. I suspect a touch of magic somewhere.

The benchmarks are close enough for me, and take them with a grain of salt, unless there is a large difference. From your video, I added my old macbook pro ram (1gig pieces x 2) to the imac giving 6gigs. I could easily use 16gigs when using preview and pdf files, but upgrade can be very pricey, and something for later -cheers

  • @avcrk Great comment, thanks. Check my video out later today, I remember answering one of your questions.

  • my 2006 imac only gets a geekbench score of 2600 but its still awesome.

  • I can't imagine that you will notice a difference upgrading to 8GB from 4GB unless you are running multiple resource-intensive programs simultaneously. For example, if you are do something where 4GB isn't used, the other 4GB don't do anything and won't affect performance.

  • ok now I feel quite stooooopid lol I always thought you couldnt upgrade an iMac and so I sold mine to get a PC but now I am totally ready to go bac Mac THAN YOU VERY MUCH MATE!!! <3

  • @filiesillo Glad you found the video useful, thanks for your comment.

  • I bet that's very powerful even more now. You like you bid specs lol. Nice vid

  • i always wondered how you opened mac i might upgrade myself.

  • @1996connor Cool.

  • I want the new iMac, so jealous.

  • cool

  • Nice Vid! I Recently Upgraded my RAM...

  • @iJoshuaN Cool.

  • You have a pretty nice machine there now ;D

  • @GreatUnboxer Thanks.

  • Hey Dave,

I have a question for you.

Why would you buy a $2000 Mac, when you can buy an extreme PC with $2000?

  • @mkextremerTV Big investment in software, stable system, Final Cut Express workflow.

  • did you review the sony mdr nc60 headphones? The headphones at the centre of the screen on the intro looks like them

  • @vLeOv They are Sennheiser HD228's.

  • awesome dave, i pm'd you and emailed you about the vid

  • @pimpyouriphone3g Cheers.

  • Very clear thanks.

  • Even in 360p , this video is beautiful. Awesome.

  • @SN00PY746 Thanks. Panasonic SD700 :)
