If you'd like a nice trick, I've been making a few 'cell-shaded' meshes, mostly for use in SL, and I've found a good way to trick a mesh into looking cell shaded is to create a duplicate of it, flip the faces and scale it so it hovers just a tiny bit outside of the main mesh, then colour those faces slightly darker than the main meshes colour.

It's a pain if you're trying to keep vert count down but it makes 3D 'cell-shading' possible, although I assume there's a better trick. x3

Google: "Blender Noob to Pro" and you should get a link to lot of tutorials that explain everything about blender. Bare in mind though that blender GUI has changed after the release of that tutorial. Sorry for replying a month late.
