sanjose is not the best but it ISN'T the worst, mexico city, guatemala city, tegucigalpa, bogota all have ugly parts and obviously more than san jose, aruba is just a dry, tiny country with good beaches. i prefer to having a beatiful country with full natural enviroment and people and a better economy and not live in aruba with people as shity as you
POPULAR RETIRE MECCA of course because gringos take advantage of our social security, evade taxes, and bride corrupt goverment officials to get what they need such as to build a house or a business on a nacional wildlife protected area, evade certain construction permits, imigration issues, gringos dont want costa rican culture in CR instead they want to have a USA in Costa Rica.Enjoy while you can because lots of things will change for the good of CR
@DBDGREAT First off its san jose. san juan is puerto rico. second you must not have gotten around much cuz costa rica blows a ruba out of the water dude. sorry to tell ya
He just show the good things about this country... where's the crime??? the bad goverment??? If you have the money to retire your ass think about Panama. Its a way better than this stucked country.
Very good. I lived in Costa Rica for a while and really liked it. That was back when it was a little cheaper than it is now. I have been living in Thailand now for 9 years and like it but miss the Latin culture.

@wilshils You could easily do that here. The country loves entrepreneurs, but get ready for some bureaucracy to get all permits. Hey, it is still a third world country right!!
@luigihope Costa Rica is not a third world world country, is a developing country. Unemployment is around 9%. The population is highly educated and the country has been very stable compare to other countries in Latin America for the past 50 years.
Would a retired person employ a western person like me if it got the job done quickly and still at lowish cost? I know local labour is very cheap but can take a long time for them to turn up?
Hi Super.. You must show a retirement income of not less than $600. per month, which must be deposited in one of their banks. If you are younger you'll have to show $1,000 a month income from outside the country. You can't work there unless you open a business. Want a nice building lot for about $22,000 let me know.
Looking in the internet, I found Chris Howard's book "The New Golden Door to Retirement and Living in Costa Rica". In spite of the utopian title, I did purchase the book and read it from cover to cover. It covers EVERYTHING you want to know about moving and retiring to Costa Rica..it became my Costa Rican Bible!!

Just got back from Costa Rica...........Aruba is way, way, better. San Juan Costa Rica downtown look even worst than the worst part of Mexico.
Products there look like cheap Chineese crap.

@DBDGREAT San Jose is a shithole. All capital cities are. You didn't go elsewhere ? Aruba is fine for beaches. That's all it has.
If I wanted beaches I'd move to Tahiti. I'll take CR any day.
