Hey guys my 9800gt just died on me and i need a new card, plus my warranty and the card is expired so i have no choice but to buy a new card,so is this worth the extra cash because i was thinking on buying the 4850 instead, plus this only has a hdmi port for the monitor, while mine has a vga port so i still need to buy a converter, also my psu may not have 2 pci connectors(im not sure),so is this worth the cash?
honestly, if you are good with hardware, if you want the best you are way better off getting a reference card and putting on a really nice GPU cooler.
@TushaarTheTerminator what brand psu is it? if its sumit like corsair it shud, if not then it probably won't ull need a 550w+ psu if its not a good brand, mine an OCZ stealth xtreme sli 600w and runs this card easy
you cn play it on probably 1440 x 900 or 1600 x 900 at high or maybe a bit higher on certain things and no aa it is a very very good card for the price right now
Er, it depends on the card chipset brand, you can use rivatuner. I don't suggest doing it at all unless you have experience and it shortens the life of your card overall and produces higher temperatures
@neo93536 I would recommend it. I built my pc in October of last year, and this thing runs all games on Ultra comfortably. Even Starcraft 2 which has only just been released.
Can i put HD 4870 to my computer if i have AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ 2,70 GHz , 4 GB ram , 32 bit oper. system (WINDOWS VISTA HOME BASIC)
I don't think so...cause as pci-e 2 doubles the speed, if you have pci-e 1/1.1 would decrease the performance about 50% and also even if you try to oc the card the mobo will stop you in a limit, that normally a mobo with pci-e 2 wouldn't :/
you say that, but the forums speak different. I looked it up at nvidias forums, and they say its only losing 5-10% performance. not all 2.0 cards use all bandwith usable by 2.0, and only have a bit more than 1.1 can offer. 1.0 is out of the question.
MSI 790FX-G65 does not exist.... its either 790FX-GD70 or 790GX-G65.
Also, your motherboard and CPU support DUAL CHANNEL memory, so if you plan on getting a triple channel DDR3 kit, youre in trouble.
i also recommend that you get a 750watt power supply because what you have there is probably going to exceed that. If not, it at least affords you ample room for upgrades and would be a long term investment.
your system could definitely manage crysis at 1280x1024 at well over 30 frames
i woudl try getting the intel quad core cause i had an amd and it killed my whole mother board after it burned up within a week no overclocking and i had done nothing to it so yea get quad or maybee the i7.
It's not really that much faster to be perfectly honest. It's a high performance card and on a lot of tests the 4890 doesn't stray to far ahead of the 4870. Soemtimes the 4870 pulls a head on some games and resolutions but it all depends. Save yourself a fair sum and get the 4870.
I have a 3850. i want to upgrade to this card, but i found out my 3850 has crossfire too, would it hurt my PC to crossfire my 3850 with this 4870? BTW, my 3850 is 512mb Gddr3.
The toxic version is a little more expensive, but it has quieter, more efficient cooling. It's also slightly overclocked/more overclockable. I, personally, however, would go for the non-toxic edition, seeing as they're down below 150 bucks.
thats the stupidest question ive ever herd lol, the graphics card has ALOT more power than the processor, in fact some gpus take the load off the cpu when things get tough
ah, cool... so if you have a good proccessor like the i7 or x4. and this card paired with it, then your probably gonna have no problems right? Everything will run smooth huh?
yep pretty much, the graphics card is better though, i mean i have a quad 2.6ghz but a 4870x2 and i can run crysis at like 30 to 60fps, even in my old pc dual core 2.8ghz i can run it at 28 to 50fps, the processor only deals with the gameplay and physics and the graphics card deals with the graphics

i just bougt it 1 day ago and i can asur you its really a great card of corse you must have a good C2D or quad core and of corse OSx64 to for more performance
tested on team fortress 2 i got 70 fps average with all options on in dustbowl on 32 players server , i think i will make a video test soon :) thanx for the review now im happy to have boght it and sory for my eng
Hey i have a Powercolor 4870 and the temperatures are around 63 C idle and 71-75 when on full load, You think i could overclock it a bit? the case hasnt got any fans so the airflow isnt great.
oh ok cause the fan is already at 71% so if i overclock it from 770 MHz to 800 MHz and the memory from 900MHz to 1000MHz ill need to increase the fan from 71% to 80%? or more?
I just got this card and it kicks a** thanks for the detailed review made me get this one over the normal one One thing had to move my HDD to get it to fit in the Antec 900 case
There are 2 Version of the Card you maybe have the "Lite Retail" Version like me.The Other Version is the "Full Retail" with this Progs Like 3d Mark included.
The Lite Retail Version Only Has One Cd "The Driver Cd" inculded and the needed Cables included so dont worry its ok so have fun with that nice card ;)
i bought it and i opened it and i saw i didnt got the dvd suite and 3d markvantage etc. i only got the drivers. Could it be that i didnt got those dvds because i live in belgium??

In terms of graphic capabilities, unless Sapphire have overclocked theirs, they're practically the same, but not in thermal performance.
I would stick with Sapphire if it's thermal performance you're looking for; there's the Sapphire Atomic, Toxic and Vapor-X 4980.
Bit-tech have done a good review of the Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 1GB Atomic, including thermal performance tests.

I currently own a XFX 4870 XXX Edition 1GB
the Standard clock for it is 975 but I Oc'ed to 1075mhz
GPU clock is at 780mhz from the 775mhz Standard
Runs smooth and great even in Very high on Crysis, with my current build i get about 25-40Fps Average
and for all of you who own a 4870
switch to manual fan control and set it to 35-60% fan speed depending on how well you deal with the loudness cuz these babys roar!
Mine runs about 55-70c full load depending on speed and if my AC is on. BUY ONE!

Hey i have a Powercolor 4870 and the temperatures are around 63 C idle and 71-75 when on full load, You think i could overclock it a bit? the case hasnt got any fans so the airflow isnt great.
iOWNu1111 2 years ago
you need to turn up the fan rpm if your going to overclock the 4870 , the auto mode doesnt do a very good job.
PCWizKid 2 years ago
oh ok cause the fan is already at 71% so if i overclock it from 770 MHz to 800 MHz and the memory from 900MHz to 1000MHz ill need to increase the fan from 71% to 80%? or more?

Is there an unoverclocked edition? If not, what other cards would you recomend?
jebus733 2 years ago
This card is a overclocked edition. It the Toxic edition so its overclockable.
