Nice groove, good job! I do have one minor criticism, though. Rhythmically and stylistically you are on the money, but the first 4 notes of the groove are E, G, A, and B, you are playing B-flat on the 4th note. This is not a huge deal, but the rest was so good I thought I should tell you.

someday i will be able to play like that X D damn u are good :D the thing is that my influenses are british indie bands and i learned to play bass with a pick not fingers is that too bad??
My Guess this is an Old Video? great playing Though For a white Boy! JK Have you got new camera Yet? do this again in HD No I'm not Black but love old Funk!
OK. I wanted to see how you would do in the breakdown part where the flute took a solo. When you came in on the funky part with the thumb i said," he got it."Good job.
i am amazed that any one being anglo american, would like soul music, much less post a video of them playing such... after all, black people & black culture are still belittled & berated, even as of this time.... i'm amazed that some young anglo male living in anywhere america, would like it so much.....
@syndicate1,trying to label music by race is absurd.A great song will cross the "ethnic divide" and appeal to everyone, regardless of who made it.I am amazed that a black Haitian man I knew liked country music.Makes you wonder if we're stereotyping ourselves and calling it "culture".
Really nice groove man, if you like old school funk, then check out 'Son of Slide' by Slave. I would love to see you take a stab at that one! great playing, keep it up.
Great playing but there is one note off just before you start the run again. At :20, you are playing a slightly higher note than in the recording. Don't mean to nitpick but I know this bass run for so many years....good job and nice bass!
i'm trippin' - in the 1rst grade, this older man would play the bass to 'jive talkin'/bee gees - then the dude came back the next year and played this on his bass - we thought he was the coolest...sounds good! thanks
Geez, taitapedro, Bose estupendo!! I have this video on my favorite, and go back to it, every other month or so...I'm a 50 y.o. woman, growing up with all that funk, and love listening to you..wow and watching you..I'm in love with your playing and your cute face. Don't be surprised a lot of coogers will arise from this.
Hell no. I know a lady who didn't start piano lessons until she was 60...she's now nearly 70 and sounds like she played her whole life. And...piano is tougher than bass.
I would respectfully disagree. Piano is the most intuitive instrument on earth; it's easy to understand. The bass takes far more effort to really learn. Piano players tend to have more expected from them, so they tend to work at the technical skill more, but since the bass is so often shoved to the rear, most bass riffs tend to be simple.
Take a look at Jeff Schmidt (especially Fury) or Victor Wooten. They really make the most of the bass, and can match any piano player in technical complexity.
Addendum: It's really hard to find Wooten's best stuff on Youtube; there are a lot of terrible hand-cam recordings that fail to capture the subtleties of his skill. So... yeah.
@hislilmisses Just go for it! It's never too late. Set some realistic goals and just do it. It'd be lame to say you never tried. Life's too short! music rules! bass rules! even you rule!
Love your bass playing. I thing it is excellent. You have got alot of soul, and I would love to have a bass player like you in my band. I would really love to see you do the bass part to GQ's - "DISCO NIGHTS". Thanks!
Look at you ... go on with your bad self ... you know what's up (although you surely weren't born when this song came out in 1976). Nevertheless, you got it boo. Cool as fuck. Great job. Next time, keep the camera on your sexy butt. Another funk classic with a funky bass line is song called Glide by Pleasure. Would love to see you thump on that.
